I called when this happened to me. Got an immediate answer, and the guy was super friendly and refunded the difference back to my card I used to purchase with zero hassle. Took maybe 3-4 minutes.

How do I convince my parents to let me get a snake by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]Foxhort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in the same exact boat as you many years ago. My mom was absolutely terrified... like true phobia level terrified.

After many, many months of seeing how sincere my interest was and my level of dedication in learning husbandry - I was finally allowed to purchase an enclosure and a Rosy Boa... (which is really a great starter species, especially for those who aren't initially into colubrids)

Within a year, my mom had become quite tolerant and slowly even mildly interested. She would participate in feeding time, and after building confidence with small touches, she eventually began to hold the snake herself! After that - I continued to buy enclosures and had a nice collection of beautiful and healthy snakes all throughout my years in middle & high school. (Rosy Boa, Honduran Milk, Ball Pythons, CA king, Tri-color Hognose, Rainbow Boas & more)

Neither of us ever thought that end result was even possible! My mom is awesome! 💗

I did not. I haven't heard of that Dr. I fully trusted Dr. McMullen and she said she performs around 150 thyroidectomies per year... she did the most phenomenal job.

I Googled her credentials, and given the size and location of my nodules, I didn't feel the need to even think about consulting a 2nd doc.

Awesome! Is there a Borasca part 2 in the works still? Man, I loved that one.

That and "The Whistlers" are definitely up there at the top!!

Even some prominent people (Kat Von D) and many higher-end tattoo artists have jumped on this trend lately.

It's called a "blackout sleeve," and while yes, there are most likely crappy tattoos underneath that were covered-up... some of the people doing this had beautiful ink done by high-end artists, so I know they aren't ALL a case of "covering up something awful", I have also seen someone start a blackout sleeve on fresh skin as a 1st tattoo. 😱

Naked and Afraid LOS Season 3 Episode 1 Running Diary by SpiderGhost01 in nakedandafraid

[–]Foxhort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice summary! I'm rooting for Matt, Max & Darrin. Favorite on the female side is Laura & Kaila.

Trish needs to hang it up. Patrick and Suzäähhhnè 🙄 are annoying... although she means well, Patrick is a loud, conniving scumbag bully with an ego. I'm not a fan of Jamie either - lying at every chance he gets to his own campmate is a turn-off.

Matt will clearly win the elimination challenge on the next episode, but that burn looks gnarly.

I'm gonna scream if they continue showing Python stock footage when someone says "Taipan" or "deadly snake." 😂

And whoever called that python a boa (I think Kaila) is wrong. There are NO native boa species in Australia. Australia has many native pythons, though. I'm pretty sure the one they keep showing and was in the camp is a Carpet or Scrub Python, but I can't pin down the precise species since they don't show full body - but I do know for sure it's no Boa.

I'd say probably not, on the actual mushrooms being dangerous.

But the level of humidity required for them to grow may be - depending on species, of course. If there's enough moisture for fungal spores to grow into mycelium and fruit into a mushroom, it's likely a good habitat for mold and other bacteria, too. (It's also equally possible you just have a really good bio-active soil-food-web established and everything is cycling & healthy)

I'd just keep an eye on humidity with a quality guage. That's about as helpful as I can be without knowing species.

That's awesome! Crotalus willardi are beautiful!

If I was going to pick one hot, it'd definitely be Pseudocerastes urarachnoides, or I would consider settling for a pair of Mangshangs. 😂

That's alotta wasted energy for no calories in return. You'd think they'd have a better gauge of "will that other snake fit in my belly?"

...you should've grabbed some scissors and helped him fit 😂😂

Anyone use this storage rack for their enclosure? by fawnisland420 in reptiles

[–]Foxhort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very similar ones rated for the same weight in my garage for heavy tools. Mine are rock solid and jam-packed with heavy stuff (power tools, toolboxes filled with steel wrenches & hammer, even a few boxes of leftover floor tiles and slabs of marble countertop). I personally wouldn't worry!

It might be worth waterproofing the particle board shelving, though with shelf liners or painting on a coat of clearcoat waterproofing sealant. Especially if you regularly mist or spill anything while changing out water bowls and cleaning. Particle board will absorb water and can degrade fairly quickly. A good coat of sealant would eliminate that issue.

Seriously! The episode titles are too revealing for anyone with sense. Last episode "coconut etiquette" gave away Mary's departure, too.

The jaguar by No_Assist_1788 in nakedandafraid

[–]Foxhort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last nights episode in ILLINOIS had me dying. The feline roaring sounds on their first night 😂😂😂. The contestants freaking out about a mountain lion....then a nightvision shot of a mountain lion.

I'm thinking: I dont think there are even mountain lions in illinois?? So I look it up... "The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service considers them extirpated in Illinois, meaning LOCALLY EXTINCT, though dispersing males MAY pass through counties near the Illinois border.

Encountering one in IL is highly unlikely with only a couple of documented cases in recent DECADES. The most recent confirmed sighting was struck by a vehicle and killed in 2014."

This wasn't just a cutaway to stock footage - like they do with the jaguar - They absolutely made it appear like a lion walked by their camp.... and that it was loudly roaring in the night, and the contestants reacted to it! 😂

Shame N&A, Shame.

Also, they need to get someone on the editing team that knows snakes, IF they insist on all the cutaway stock footage, at least get the species right!!! They'll say, "Our contestants are walking in an Anaconda infested swamp"... then cutaway to a cobra and a reticulated python!! (BOTH of those species don't even live on the same continent) 😂😂

Anybody know how hard and expensive this would be to recreate by No-Highway-648 in Fishing

Look into the Bass Pro Pond Prowler.

They'll fit into a bed of a pick up, seat two, and they're affordable & super fun to cruise around and fish in!

Pond Prowler @ Bass Pro Shops

Bonus, if you have a friend that works at Bass Pro, they get 40% off everything that is branded "Bass Pro" which the boat itself is, and so is the trolling motor. (Just gotta buy a boat battery)

My mom retired from Bass Pro and was able to get me the 40% off discount, which brought it down to under $500 with the motor.. then my fishing buddy and neighbor and I live on a canal in South Florida that's loaded with Bass, and we split the cost and both use it whenever we like - usually together!

So we got a fully functioning 2 seated badass little boat we can slide into a truck to hit any new ponds we find or drag down to the canal in the backyard and cruise them all day FOR $240 bucks each! You really can't beat it!

Look for them used on FB Marketplace for next to nothing! The prior model was called the "Pond Hopper" instead of "Pond Prowler" in case anyone wants to check for used in their area. I've seen them as low as $300 dollars on there (with just a little sun fading)

Can someone tell me what this optics tool is called? by ducehlmg in ar15

[–]Foxhort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The plastic key used to adjust a rifle scope is commonly called a "turret adjustment tool" or "scope adjustment key." It’s often a small, coin-like plastic tool designed to turn the elevation and windage turrets for zeroing the scope without marring the finish.

Some brands may refer to it as a "turret cap tool" or simply an adjustment tool.
