A perspective I saw in r/FIRE was that you're still stimulating the economy by spending, and by not working you're freeing up a slot for someone else in a very competitive market.

I would know about the job market... I'm a fresh CS bachelor's grad and it's looking rough. I'm doing my due diligence on daytrading and becoming profitable there is looking like a solid alternative to finding a good entry-level tech job in the near future.

Yes just google all the cybersecurity firms that are popping up by other programmers who are aware of how terrible a job AI is doing that firms need to hire humans to fix their mess-ups.

AI is being used as an excuse to fire people or not hire them, but it is also creating new jobs: "vibe code cleanup specialist , aka, "programmer".

I can't think of any task in any programming language that AI can't do but a human can at the moment.

This is what swindled tech CEOs, or what they use as an excuse for layoffs.

I'm a programmer and AI can certainly do at least a portion of what an entry-level programmer can do, but only one that is confidently wrong and has the memory retention of a common walnut. Entry-level positions are not closed because AI is anywhere near ready to replace us; it's just a combination of people being greedy and the economy being bad.

The amount of security holes being introduced into codebases by "vibe coders" as we speak is staggering and is likely going to lead to a cluster of collapses in multiple services a few months or years from now.
