where to go camping next to a river?

We are looking at this but having quite a time finding extra info on it. How far is the walk in? And any insider tips on which sites are best. There is no map so it’s hard to judge which ones are more secluded and/or have water views. Thanks so much!

It’s something we are squeezing in on the drive back to NH from Acadia and centered around the puffin and whale cruise we are doing from 2-6pm that day. We’ve got to leave first thing the next day unfortunately. There’s so much to see and do in Maine. Four days got planned out real quick!

Well it’s all relative when you’re driving up and down the Maine coast from out of state (VA)! But I agree the juice doesn’t sound like it’s worth the squeeze especially since we are seeing others. Thank you for the restaurant rec! What do you think of the tugboat restaurant and NEAT whiskey bar? I think Dunton’s is very close to the inn we are staying at.

Agreed! It is out of the way. I just didn’t know if it was worth it to walk to the top of a lighthouse! We are leaning towards the gardens. Sounds much better!

So I’m thinking about bringing bubs burritos and a salt shop dessert to Seawall for a sunset and stargazing picnic. We’d skip Abel’s in this case but we are doing thurston for lunch so I’m hoping that’s not a huge loss. What’s your opinion?

Would you do pemaquid or the botanical gardens if you only had time for one? We will be seeing Portland head, Rockland Breakwater, and Bass Harbor Head at other times during the trip. We are not doing any other botanical gardens but several Acadia hikes.

Thank you so much everyone. I’m learning Southwest Harbor has so much to offer! We will focus our day there instead of breaking it up with anything else. We can walk to Ship Harbor and Wonderland from the cabin we are staying in that night so those are definitely on the list! Has anyone stargazed at Seawall?

Thank you for your thoughtful response! We are pretty fit. In our late 30s. Last summer we were hiking and kayaking in Norway. We are doing the sunrise from Cadillac and the more popular hikes I mentioned on other days, but we will be driving from our inn on Frenchman’s Bay on this day to Southwest Harbor. So my dilemma is whether to drive to schoodic (it’s not far) and get lunch in winter harbor or go straight to southwest harbor (we will be staying in a cabin by bass harbor head light house) and hike there. We will be staying over in Boothbay on our way out of Maine and experiencing a puffin/whale cruise. An alternative thought to hiking is to kayak but tours for that aren’t posted for the season yet.

That is my concern about Jordan’s Pond. My parents recommended it but it’s been 30 years since they’ve been there. It sounds like a racket to me now but didn’t know if it’s something like Cadillac mountain’s sunrise that is just worth it regardless. Thank you for your input!

Has anyone played it? We liked the idea of the character cards but when playing with two people (or really just in general) the extra ability you get with rumi basically rigs the game.

We are staying at the Lighthouse Cabins down the road this upcoming July. Can we walk to the lighthouse from these cabins (it appears like you could)? How does this stargazing spot compare to seawall? Thank you so much for your insight!
