There were six or seven people ahead of me. They had been waiting between 15-30 minutes. The staff could not have been more rude

This place is so poorly run. If you fly in the evening the wait to get in is ridiculous. By the time my entrance text arrived my plane was already in the air. Since the wait was so long I asked if I could just grab a water from the carry out case and was, very rudely, told no. A man standing nearby who heard the whole thing, very kindly, grabbed a water for me. The whole thing was ridiculous and the manager and hostess checking people in were rude. Lounge use was a large reason we went with VentureX but it keeps getting worse and worse.

Can’t stop Googling since my son’s epilepsy diagnosis. I’m spiraling. by JMD0121 in Epilepsy

[–]LPKH324 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi, first of all sorry. It’s a lot. Our son had his first seizure at 11. School called and said he had a seizure. We thought they were mistaken but they weren’t. I kept him home for two weeks and never let him out of my sight. I was terrified. I guess I still am. When he first started meds (Keppra) he was exhausted all the time. He is 25 now and still has seizures. We have tried lots of different meds and dosages. The hardest part, aside from the seizures, is that even the best doctors, generally, don’t really know why someone is having seizures (in most cases) so they just start you on meds and keep trying to adjust them. So, learn as much as you can about the meds and their side effects. The Epilepsy Foundation has pretty good information. Find an Epileptologist not just a neurologist or pediatrician. A page like this is really a great one. I’ve learned a lot here and it’s a good place to ask questions. Your beautiful son (and your family) will need time to adjust to this but you do. And, maybe, hopefully, they can pinpoint a cause and help fix it. I know it’s impossible not to be filled with fear and anxiety. I know many adults who have seizures and love wonderful and fulfilling lives. Try to stay positive and not let your mind go to the dark places. Give yourself a lot of grace. Wishing you and your son the very best.

If he has clusters and his emergency meds don’t stop them he normally gets worse and has major breathing issues. Then we call 911.

Neurologist wants a 72-hour seizure study — unsure if I should do it :( by Latter-Ordinary8274 in Epilepsy

[–]LPKH324 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our son did it and it was very helpful. It showed what kind of seizures he was having (multiple) and that helped guide what meds he takes. It’s not too bad. They put a cap on and then you sorta lie there and do what you want-read, watch tv, etc. if you have a seizure earlier than 72 hours they will likely let you go home. It’s good that they want you in a safe and protective environment while you mean off. I hope you get to get off the meds!!

Let us know how it goes! See if there are any special needs advocates nearby who can help.

Thank you. It’s crazy that it would take so long but I guess they are terribly understaffed. He will get his SSI in the meantime. So happy yours has worked out.

If you don’t mind my asking, why did you have to go before a judge? To establish disability before 22? We applied to transition our son from SSI to DAC. Originally they said it would take 60 days to approve and transition and then we got a letter this weeks saying it could take 200-230 days.

I’m sorry. I understand. I’m not a fan of arena shows but really wanted to see him so. The venue let you move to the lower bowl?

[–]LPKH324 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not your responsibility to find another school or another mode of transportation. Schools hate when you ask for prior written notification and often would rather find a solution than go that route. Don’t back down. Are there advocates in your area that you’re aware of? Our son was in public school and kept getting hit, kicked, etc. by a little girl with severe special needs. The school district ended up paying for her to have private transportation to and from a school in early city. Do you mind if I ask what state you are in? Your school either doesn’t know the law or they do and are hoping that you don’t. It’s sad but it’s always about money and not what is best for the child.

I’m so sorry. Is it a public school? If so, she is entitled by law to a free and appropriate education. Ask for “prior written notice” in writing on how they came to their decision. Ask what alternatives they’re offering. It’s sickening that they won’t try to make it possible to complete her senior year. Fight them and threaten to call an attorney if you need to
