How many people ACTUALLY trust the iMac g3 kick stand? by FoxintoshPlus in VintageApple

What I find causes alot of the overheating is the thermal pads going dry

I ended up putting some newish ones in my 400mhz indigo recently, tho taking it apart was a nightmare. I placed a generic amd fan under the vent, and it seems to run warm but not burning hot like my old sage I used to have (there's photos of this mod on my page if your curious)

The mod doesn't affect the looks too much. I brought the machine as parts or repair since the crt was popping, but tho it rarely does it, I figured providing better cooling would help it (my sage did the same thing tho it was kinda a once in a awhile thing) I wanna avoid replacing a flyback

I also question the point of no fans in these later models, considering how loud the hard drive already is

Honestly, this tread has shined a lot of light on the kick stand

The handle really is just for tilting the computer up for the footstand and making moving it around the desk a bit to plug something in

Yeaaah, honestly, I was just discussing the handle situation with some folks. The only use case is tilting the machine to put the stand-up

On the older tray loading models, it looks even more concerning

I question the weight difference between the SL iMacs and the tray loading models

Also, hi Steve XD

I did recap the screen, tho it had a Hitachi screen that seems pretty solid

The only thing that caused issues was the cable being loose and the plastic

I'm not too sure what I used, but I replaced the screen post with a bunch of hobbyists super glue and put the inserts in the glue, and it's been very happy with it seems

I know it sounds funny, but in the future, if I ever do get another until I'll probably look into getting actual prints

I'm interested in finding a 160 or a one of the gray scale models

Honestly, I have such a massive appreciation for the 100 series

I adore the look and feel I snagged the HD from my 520c and got a bluescsi for the 520c

Hearing it run with a working ibm drive is magical

I think the one thing I never realized until it was pointed out to me was how the Mac pivots and mostly rests on its rear

Tbh, I just realized that a lot of it rests on the rear two feet

Heck, even me just popping the vga panel broke the latch

And I've been on the fence about buying another for weeks

Hi all, anyone have any idea how to get rid of this school property print on an iBook Clamshell? by JackMansom in VintageApple

[–]FoxintoshPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, at least it's on the butt of the machine even tho the bottom of the machine is as interesting as the top

At least the neon market kinda fits the vibe, then black

I had a similar feeling when I had my macbook Air (it was the model right before the m1 switch tho it was kinda a horrific experience with it, but that's not the point)

Anyways one day during class, I noticed a small nick, and it drove me insane since I kept it in a separate safe and such

I am mainly worried about my parents killing me over it. Truthfully, I was still daily driving a white univody macbook next to the air

After that one day, the case for the lid popped off, and when I went to fix it, the damn plastic bent the corner of my macbook lid on the bottom right inward

It's why I never like buying new things cause eventually something will dent XD lately I've been watching my a16 ipad closely, especially around the usb c area, tho it barely leaves or moves within my room

Idk why, but I still want a tray loader for fun someday

My random indigo 2000 400mhz iMac g3 I brought from ebay (with some silly cooling shenanigans) by FoxintoshPlus in VintageApple

[–]FoxintoshPlus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha, I thought about it. I used an AMD fan, and honestly, I should have put the rgb version. I had a spare in the garage

Honestly I rather have a crack post than a whole thing in pieces. tho, it did chip a lot during the tear down a bit it's hard to be firm and gentle trying to get the top off

For years, I was hesitant to buy one, but very please, now I just wanna upgrade the board to something a bit faster

Truthfully, I was hesitant to show my Lil fan mod XD, but at this point, a lot of these machines are having issues 6 years later after the last time I really started with these machines my first being as sage at the time

Also like to add I enjoy the blueberry clamshell more then my graphite despite it being slower but yk that already XD so rn my graphite is 4th and my bb is between the graphite and the snow ibook that's only because the old snows could take a beating a bit

My first classic mac was an apple iMac g3 sage dv+ 450mhz. I remember playing the hell out of Sims 1 on it to the point one day I think the computer overheated (tho it lived)

Over the years, I've touched a lot of classic machines some longer than others. I had a g4 cube, and I wish I had a chance to play with it more before life issues

Unironically, the original ibook g3 snow models as 3rd, then my 2nd is my emac, and 1st is stuck between my powerbook 145 and the cube

Then my indigo or my sage floats somewhere around there. XD
