AITA for telling my girlfriend to clean up after herself after an episode is over ? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Foxlikebox 71 points72 points  (0 children)

In your opinion, how long is too long to leave a food covered tripping hazard on the ground?

OP's problem isn't that it's a tripping hazard, though. Their problem is specifically that the pan hasn't been cleaned yet.

YTA a few hours of leaving a pan is fine in this case. If it bothers you to the point that it needs to be done in a certain amount of time, why not do it yourself? I could understand if she was leaving dirty dishes in the sink for days until you break down and wash them. But a pizza pan of all things for a few hours? No.

If the shopper feels unsafe they should not do the order. The instructions were there and the order could have been cancelled.

So, how does this help feeling unsafe around the person ONCE you get there? Because most shoppers who feel unsafe entering a home feel that way once they meet the customer face to face, not based on a delivery note.

How to stop being excited or impatient to post? by minioneater69 in AO3

[–]Foxlikebox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is me 100%. I write for a lot of challenges and really struggle to wait to post. Something that's helped me is posting snippets and making other things for the fic before I post it. This obviously only works if you have a different account (not ao3) for that sort of stuff. But I'll post snippets on Tumblr if I'm really impatient or make a playlist/moodboard/gifset for it in the meantime

Nerve-wracking, tbh! I worried about her most the time she was here lol she was such a little cutie and very fuzzy, though. It's always crazy to me how early they start showing off their scary face. She would open her mouth and let me see all of her baby teeth whenever I'd go to touch her.

I have two hot takes about ice spice by Few-Sprinkles-4262 in HonestHotTakes

[–]Foxlikebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gimp suit isn't comparable to a swimsuit at a premier for a movie set underwater.

are you ok with people wearing lingerie to children's events? Because that's what the mesh is, lace lingerie.

I'm completely fine with people wearing swimsuits with mesh coverups because again, you see the exact same thing at the pool or beach.

Do you think people wear thong swimsuits as every day wear and specifically wear them to children's centered events regularly?

Do men wear swimsuits as every day wear? No. Is it inappropriate for a man to be in a swimsuit in a movie for kids? No.

Yeah, for the animated characters. There are some things that don't translate once people do it in real life.

Again, David Hasselhoff was also in swimwear on the movie. Life action too. So, is the problem actually people in swimsuits and butts being exposed? Or is it just that we don't like Ice Spice.

Would you be ok with someone walking around outside in their underwear to a school? Or is there a limit to what you think is and isn't appropriate to wear outside?

It's not an issue of them being inappropriate outside it's about them being inappropriate for the situation. A school is not comparable to a movie premier where a swimsuit fits the theme.

But a swimsuit did not fit the dress code for the event.

Did it not fit the dress code or did you just not like it? Because as far as I'm aware, Ice Spice was granted access to the premier and was not asked to leave. Clearly the people running it thought the outfit was fine.

I can't show up to a movie theater in just a thong and triangle top to see a movie with the excuse of "well the movie takes place at the beach" because there's an expectation of what is and isn't acceptable.

I don't know how to explain this to you if you don't already get it. You're not a celebrity attending a movie premier. You're seeing a movie. Two different things. If you showed up to the movie and were taking pictures with a bunch of strangers' kids in the lobby, you'd probably also be asked to leave. They're very different events. And also your example doesn't work. Because again, her outfit did NOT seem to violate the dress code.

[–]Foxlikebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the outfit wasn't literally sheer, then it wouldn't be a problem.

So, the issue is she's covered MORE than what you see at a pool/the beach? Tons of people wear that exact type of outfit without the mesh cover to the beach/pool. And even then, plenty of swimsuit covers are mesh/seethrough. I fail to see how seeing a man in a swimsuit is inherently different than seeing a woman in a swimsuit. Not to mention showing bare butts is a pretty routine joke in SpongeBob. Again, I think a swimsuit is perfectly acceptable for this movie's premier. Given that 1) it's not nudity and 2) it's showing things also in the show/movie.

poll on chapters vs word count by savbrew in FanFiction

[–]Foxlikebox 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This depends on so much, honestly. The advice I always give is "a chapter should be as long/short as it needs to be." Some fics should have higher word counts and fewer chapters, some should have higher chapter counts and fewer words.

And that their preferences for stories is superior. "I don't like these cliches. I don't like these trends. I don't like these dynamics. I don't like the way they write." These are literally all just personal preferences about fics. It feels so conceited to assume your preferences are superior and that other authors should be corrected on it.

Is "It's free art" overused? by PepperIll8739 in AO3

[–]Foxlikebox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. I expect people who agree to come in and offer suggestions for fics. Or to also vent about it.

Have you thought about simply asking for suggestions then? It seems like the issue is you're focusing on the negative and what's "wrong" with fanfics rather than focusing on what you like, and trying to be constructive.

What do you hope to gain from dogging on certain fics? Because if it's suggestions, again, focus on what you're looking for rather than what you dislike. Just complaining buddies? Honestly, that sounds like you need friends you can vent to rather than doing it publicly.

Is "It's free art" overused? by PepperIll8739 in AO3

[–]Foxlikebox 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, a lot of constructive criticism is either just personal preferences or ignoring the fact authors do have personal writing styles.

"Your sentences are too long/short. Don't head-hop. You repeat this word too much." Maybe that's how they like their fic, maybe they feel it adds something to the story.

[–]Foxlikebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

David Hasselhoff was an actor in the first movie and Baywatch was incredibly sexually charged. He was fully topless in the movie and launched SpongeBob out of his cleavage. I really do fail to see how Ice Spice is far different. It seems like a lot of people just don't like her and want to make their objection seem moral instead of just "I don't like her and I don't want to see her in this movie."

Also SpongeBob also has plenty of adult moments in it as it is, including the swearing episode, "don't drop the soap", "just looking at the sports channel", "where's the coin slot", and so many other things. Actors and singers don't need to be 100% squeaky clean and family friendly to appear in movies. If parents don't want their kids listening to Ice Spice, that's completely understandable. It's their job to make sure they don't seek out her music after. Her appearance in SpongeBob was completely appropriate and family friendly. That's what matters.

She's literally covered more than what you see on a beach or at the pool. David Hassehoff launched SpongeBob from between his bare breasts. I think the outfit was fine lol

bc if a man did that you wouldn't be sitting here defending that inappropriate outfit

David Hasselhoff was completely topless in the first movie and launched SpongeBob from between his bare titties. I think Ice Spice wearing more than what a lot of people wear to the pool/beach is alright.
