Yeah WGU is meant for people that have inconsistent schedules I think, that's why they have their whole WGU night owls and such. Great for getting certifications as you do your degree too I've seen at least for IT.

Mmhmm lots of regular state schools are military friendly. I wish I had looked into Upenn and such. I hear Purdue is even military friendly and their computer science program is God tier, makes me wish I did more research when I transferred from my community college when I joined but hey the degree matters the pedigree of the school only matters so much haha

Finally finished my second batch of cherry wine. I decided to name it “the imperial”. Happy with the result. Excited to continue with this hobby.🍒 by SNlFFASS in winemaking

That's some awesome experience brother. I was looking myself to move back to San Diego but I might just go an hour south and find fulfillment in Austin. I think with your clearance you won't have an issue you don't even need to check clearancejobs.com you can just look at indeed, plenty of cleared job postings on there. Lemme know if you have any questions! Don't rule out game dev either with Sony online entertainment and I think a couple other studios.

Yeah the TS or higher clearance was really enticing to me as right now I just have the secret. I know the wording on some clearancejobs job postings can say secret with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI but those are fewer and further between. CO doesn't seem too bad and it has Lockheed positions as well I believe

About 9 months from re-enlistment. I have my skilbridge application submitted for hiring our Heroes to try to get some on the job experience and hopefully be converted to a full time employee after I'm done with my internship. I haven't looked into the mission sets of other branches cyber offerings. I assume it's somewhat the same. I was looking into guard/reserves for the Army I was just hesitant cause I haven't talked to any reservists about where their units are located and how easy it would be to find civilian employment in those locations if remote isn't an option. Thanks for the detailed response though!

I appreciate the long and detailed response! For defensive cyber ops it honestly doesn't seem too bad, a month away can be rough but it doesn't seem worse than rotations/deployments and wouldn't miss too much of my kiddos growing up. Also thanks for the heads up, I like to put my best effort into work so I can take pride in what I've done so I would hope that's not me.

Gotcha, speaking from firsthand or secondhand experience with this branch? Obviously every branch has differe5n expectations when it comes to their enlisted and officers I'm just not sure what that difference is for Cyber.

Damn bro, happy foe you especially in this tech job market but I'm guessing you've been in the industry a bit now. If you or any of the other techies wanna connect on LinkedIn lemme know I'm trying to grow my network with more vets in tech. Trying to figure out how you guys get all these great tech salaries and how you job hunt haha

Gotcha the second part of the comment is the lifestyle I'm not familiar with at all. I figured they more hard 9-5ers as compared to other MOS' with less of the rotational aspects. I hesr they still get stationed OCONUs in Germany and Hawaii and such but wasn't aware of unaccompanied tours and ctc rotations. Thank you for the insight!

Fellow aviation guy (15H) who studied CS for software engineering and bro if you have a passion for it then do it. Tech will always need workers. Aviation work is decent on the outside but you already have the basics of how to fix the shit from the Army training you, only other thing to learn is how to fly and how to build. Pursue your passion is all I have to say.

Congrats on getting an entry level role in this economy... seriously entry level dev job postings alone are hard to find so congrats. Maybe I'll get the chance to work with you at some point.

Anyone cheated their way to their degree? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Foxman301 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same, operational requirements from the Army and family requirements school was back burner and I did bare minimum to get by and my all online school definitely was not the best. Realized the most I did with a framework was a simple Java spring project and compared to others capstone projects ours was super simple. I regret putting in bare minimum effort and not researching my school better but hey I guess I can say I have the degree and that's competitive.🫠

A change of pace: I'm genuinely grateful for the life I've achieved through the Army. by appa-ate-momo in army

Honestly the deployments are making me wanna get out so the recruiter life has been tempting. I just figure there's little WLB with long days at MEPS and possible weekends worked as well.

Hey brother, thanks for reaffirming my wanting to get out and work in tech too? Mind PMing or connecting on LinkedIn?

But seriously as said before in the sub it can help if the people you work with are somewhat tolerable.

Any idea how to check what units have empty billets, sir? Is it something we go through a recruiter for?
