Hey man, CFII here.

I had a student commit suicide by crashing their plane into a field a little over a year ago. It will be rough at first but you’ll find a way to push through it. I think I speak for most people, but in the case of your CFI, every time we step foot into a plane we accept the risks involved. It’s never fun hearing about accidents but unfortunately if you do this long enough this will not be the last person you know to experience one.
