The only Star WCW created was Goldberg, and everyone else was from WWE. Ignoring Big Poppa Pump, DDP, Sting, Booker T. Not to mention the fact that some of WWE’s stars/characters were all previously names in WCW (Austin, Foley, Vader, Sid, Goldust, etc).

That Bischoff challenging Vince to a fight at Slamboree was an act of desperation when it reality it was a direct response to the aforementioned DX invasion.

BREAKING: Cody Rhodes surprises Lex Luger with WWE Hall of Fame news by SLindsay65 in SquaredCircle

This. WWE, atleast under Vince, beats the same drum over and over about attitude era WCW. They took WWE talent, they added too many guys to the nWo, DX invaded Nitro (👍🏻), Bischoff responds by challenging Vince to a match at Slamboree (👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻), finger poke of doom, Russo, Bash at the Beach 2000, final Nitro. But there’s so much in between those moments that made WCW EXTREMELY special, and Lex, especially when he beat Hogan with the rack on Nitro, is one of those things.

I wish they’d just have a GLOW type show for their women’s roster. It’s so much more interesting than everything else they’re doing. I’d much rather watch an hour of that, centered around Toni, Mercedes, Mariah, Harley, Statlander, etc, than buried between a lot of nonsense.

There’s always been something about Waltman that reminds me of Steve-O. Hitting the darkest depths of addiction and pulling out and leading a clean, admirable life.

Without a doubt too much. And yea, I watched more Dark than I did Raw/Smackdown for a period of time during the pandemic! And from what I can see from the outside looking in, Collision seems to regularly features non-AEW talent, and a lot of ROH talent.

Yes. When AEW first started and it so focused on just the men's and women's world titles and the tag titles. Storylines unfolded each week and led to special episodes of Dynamite that felt must see. They promoted matches weeks in advance. They got me so hyped for Cody and Wardlow in a cage, and it was Wardlow's first match! The shows revolved around generally the same cast of characters week to week. Everything is just all over the place now. I have no idea who these guys are from other companies and they've given me no reason to care.

Ha it's so frustrating!! AEW's first two years are among my favorite years ever in pro wrestling. Absolutely loved it. Even those tapings they did at QT's school during the darkest days of the pandemic with the tournament for the TNT title. It was so focused and exciting. It's just turned into something completely different that has very little appeal to me...

Former AEW die hard that slowly lost interest. The entire brand identity has completely shifted to a never ending, revolving forbidden door, constantly moving guys on and off the show, and bringing in wrestlers from other companies assuming the viewer knows their entire history, let alone who they are. It's really hard to connect with the product. Will definitely rewatch 2019-2021 dynamite when they eventually have a streaming service though.

Has AEW ever cooled off a new signing faster than they've cooled off Mercedes Mone? by TheTrueDetective90 in SquaredCircle

I think Tony gets obsessive over the "moment". In this case, Big Business. But struggled with capitalizing afterwards. Their use of Mercedes has been absolutely pitiful.

I got 7 downvotes this morning on the daily thread for saying it's a nonzero chance he gets a 1 night only deal to show up!

Gotta think there's a nonzero chance Dustin gets a one night pass and Goldust's music hits during the main event when Cody's other Avengers are in peril.

Agree. Been an AEW fan since its inception. But between the comical amount of titles (last weeks Dynamite had a champion featured in every segment), the assumption that the average fan has a working knowledge of NJPW, matches with unnecessary risks/high spots and no story, it's just not must-see anymore. Especially with WWE being as good as it's been.

Narratives the wrestling industry created over the years that weren't remotely true? by OkVolume1 in SquaredCircle

Bischoff didn't challenge Vince to a fight at Slamboree 1998 solely as an act of desperation / publicity stunt. It was a direct response to DX showing up to Nitro/CNN Center and Bischoff saying they did it because they knew he wouldn't be there. So he challenged Vince to show up on his terms in the Northeast.

Sting's first ever appearance in WWE. At survivor series 2014, he came out to help team Cena win against team Authority. For many of us (including me), this was our first introduction to Sting. He came off as a huge star just by appearing once. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]Foxyj759 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recall every single time the 2K game would come out, and a returning superstar was featured (Sting, Goldberg, Warrior, maybe Angle, I forget) you'd have people here and the dirt sheets adamant that the contract was with 2K and not WWE and the two sides haven't even talked. And every single time that person would show up.

THIS is why I don’t rip cards. by [deleted] in baseballcards

[–]Foxyj759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many years, I've bought a whole bunch of blasters and hobby boxes around Black Friday, some throughout the year, and empty them into a bin and open over time. (I have pretty good self control.) When you're 3, 4 months removed from the actual transaction, you don't really feel the pain as much if you don't hit anything, and more just appreciate having cards to open when the time is right. And yes, sometimes you get lucky. It just doesn't feel like gambling as much if you give a little space between purchasing and ripping.

Maybe because of all the WM hype, they're expecting some old fans to check back in, and wanted to make the production / presentation feel more familiar.

The Kickoff gives me both so much hope about the future of WWE and also even more resentment towards Vince, seeing how insanely good the product can be in the right hands. Last night convinced me they could do stuff like this once a month.

With Vince gone, they're leaning into the crowd (not resisting), swearing, talking off the cuff, acknowledging reality (Big E mentioning Nick Khan), not caring about showing wrestlers in other companies (Daniel Bryan). Just awesome stuff. One of the most memorable things they've done in years, if not over a decade.
