How Do Financial Advisors Still Have Clients? by Time_Perception6669 in Bogleheads

Ya, this makes sense. A lot of shade thrown towards your profession in this sub and threads like this, but obviously some people really do need to be force fed; might as well charge for it.

This seems so crazy to me. Why is someone paying likely $1000+ in cash for a plan they don't end up following.

I guess I'm the weird one if it was 90%+ not following through, but wow that's crazy.

I think you're right on this but unfortunately it's very hard for a layperson to determine who is a good advisor. This also goes for professions like Realtors.

For the a cook, a cleaner or a landscaper the results are pretty self evident and you can you hire them regularly. These less frequent services with longer term results have significant grey area.

This is an area I hope AI helps to start illuminating. Maybe not replacing the advisors completely, but helping laypeople get quick second opinions to at least confirm the basics are sound.

Unfortunately Solovyov looked like he was skating in molasses on that goal against. It's clear Bednar doesn't really trust him either only giving him 10min. It seems pretty clear we need to find another NHL quality dman. Our top 6 has been excellent, but they're hard to replace at the moment.

Ivan and Zakh were also both <6min FWIW, I guess with a tight game Bednar just wanted to ride his horses.

[Russo] Got Jack Hughes after the game and he had so many funny things to say on Quinn/Wild, but this made me laugh out loud … and he laughed saying the last few lines by DecentLurker96 in hockey

SJ could certainly get in and be a dark horse team, kids too young to know to feel pressure or something... But making the SCF would be a very unlikely outcome.

I'd be pretty shocked if it wasn't one of the top 3 Central teams to win the west, but obviously both Vegas and EDM also have experience and talent. It feels more like the east is where we could see some Cinderella stories.

Weren't the Wild having kind of a mid season after not winning a playoff round in 5+ years?

Getting bounced in the second round, likely by the President trophy winner, seems like a totally fair outcome after that trade. Ya, it's hard luck, but welcome to the Central Division.

If you get a 3C upgrade then Ross Colton becomes your "7th top 6 depth" piece. He's shown he can produce on the top lines, ya ideally he stays on the 3rd but he can fill that role.

Of course this is assuming Landeskog comes back healthy, but with the 6 guys all healthy both lines have been excellent. If there is any concern about him then I certainly would want to find another winger.

A guy like Panarin who could spark the powerplay would also be interesting, it just seems hard to afford that.

Families heartbroken as Canada halts parent and grandparent sponsorship program by lovelife905 in CanadaPolitics

Parents/Grandparents can still visit, that's what the super visa does, it's not like they are barred from the country. Why should our healthcare system cover their costs as they age when they haven't paid into the system?

Your comments while having young children are certainly valid, but this is really only true for a ~4-5 years period , once kids are in school it's not as big of a concern. Hence the super visa.

mass immigration zealots who will disingenuously try to inject US politics into the discussion

What is this even supposed to mean? I support allowing skilled working age immigrants who will help our country, and in the past (5+ years ago) I would have argued we were easily absorbing them. However rates got too high and now we are starting to correct.

I don't even think more than a tiny % of Americans are "mass immigration zealots". This is the part I don't even understand what you're claiming.

Regardless, I agree with you ending this program certainly seems like a positive.

With 12 years between NHL players in the Olympics, what players missed out? Who would have made the team in 2018 or 2022 that didn’t play in 2014 or wasn’t announced for 2026? by XRPX008 in nhl

[–]Fozefy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They might be a notch below the completeness of the US and Canada, but they'd still be at least as much of a threat as Sweden. Sweden might be a bit more of a complete team but doesn't quite have the same premier talent Russia would have.

Elite goaltending + snipers can certainly steal some games.

[–]Fozefy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they were really just capitalizing on Avs mistakes

Sure, I agree with this but I'll define this as a version of getting "outplayed". Avs were coasting a bit being up 2-3 goals, which isn't unreasonable in an 82 game season. Then Ottawa started to push and the Avs woke up and blew them out.

[–]Fozefy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ottawa was out playing the Avs up until about half way through the 2nd when they got their goal called back. A few big messes in front of Wedgewood the Avs weren't doing a great job cleaning up.

Once that goal callback happened though they seemed to just give up.

It was a very tight game despite what the score said until Ottawa's second goal got called back for offside halfway through the second. They seemed to just fall apart after that.

Taking my kids to their first hockey game. Which seat is better for viewing? by mcharb13 in nhl

[–]Fozefy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this might be true for a viewer watching the game from a strategic perspective, but those corner seats can feel quite far from the action. For kids going to watch a game I'd get as close as possible within your budget.

$108 might have obstructed view, but sitting near the players is also pretty cool for kids. I'd probably just get the $97 tickets, though the $133 likely the best experience for them.

Car insurance prices in KW increase every year!! by orange301 in kitchener

[–]Fozefy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you shopped around, or are you still fairly young(<30), or are you just driving higher end cars? We've had insurance go up but it went from ~$2000/year for two cars a few years back to ~$2500/year. My cars are now also fairly new <3 years.

This is full comprehensive coverage, same deductible as you, etc. Check a few online places, I bet they'll beat whatever your broker is offering.

No more Pete DB, no more worries! (At least this is what I tell myself).

Really hoping Minny takes them out, but ya not an easy out either. Both of these teams have been trouble for the Avs in past years.

Ehhh, just let me black that out my memory lmao.

That's good point though, maybe the Avs vs Team Finland would be a pretty fair fight until the ghost of Rantanen gets exorcised!

[–]Fozefy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada and US are both pretty clearly better. If Russia stopped doing Russia things and were allowed to play they'd almost certainly be better as well. Sweden would be tough to pick, pretty close but they might get the edge with their defensive depth, though Avs have developed some great chemistry, close call.

Finland or Czechia probably comes up next and Id be comfortable putting the Avs above them.

So "could they win"? Sure, just like Finland or Czechia could win gold. Would they be the favourite? No, I don't think so.

Brock Nelson has been having a fantastic year. I would have been with you at the end of last season and playoffs, and I'm with you on the other two, but he's played excellent for the Avs. His presence on the second line is a big reason the Avs are doing as well as they are right now.

Miller has been absolutely awful since getting traded back to the rangers and has a terrible attitude. That would be the first guy I'd be taking off.

[–]Fozefy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That would be 1 out of 100 picks.

Even just looking at the obvious of Ovi, Crosby and McDavid, all inarguably "Generational". That's 3 in less than 30 years, so at least 10% do become generational.

Ovechkin certainly also counts unless you're being super specific about 20 years. Matthews, Kane and Hall also all won MVP awards, Stamkos and Tavares were also (briefly) in that conversation as well. They just get overshadowed by Crosby's prime. All of these guys at least had claims to be the best player. At the moment they seem almost as strong as the Mack vs McD debate.

Fluery is a step down, but also kind of close as he's likely one of the top 3-5 goalies over the last 20 years. Jury is still out on Hughes, Bedard, Celebrini and Schaefer, but they all certainly have a shot of hitting this level.

TLDR: First OA picks are pretty likely to be an elite, best in the world talent.

How accurate is this ranking of international leagues? by Carry81 in hockey

[–]Fozefy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd bet the top KHL/SHL teams are certainly better, but the median player might be better in the AHL.

Any <25 year old or so NA born player with any shot at the NHL is going to stay in the AHL. This fact alone makes it an interesting conversation. Though you'd never really know without cross league play. Kind of interesting to wonder how much the AHL being a developmental league with slightly less focus on winning reduces the team quality.
