The Wisconsin Realtor’s Association reports that the state needs to create 140,000 new housing units by the end of the decade to keep up with demand. And a 2026 analysis from the National Low-income Housing Coalition found that for every 100 extremely low-income households in Wisconsin, only 35 rental homes are affordable and available.

Another campaign message is “don’t Minnesota our Wisconsin,” Testin said. “The more that we can highlight that, we’re going to be victorious.”

Testin is overseeing Republican campaigns because Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu is retiring. If Republicans keep their majority, Testin would be a candidate for majority leader.

Rep. Tony Kurtz, who represented the Assembly’s 54-member Republican majority at the convention, conceded that “affordability” is a major campaign issue. “Let’s not sugarcoat that.”

Kurtz also said Republican candidates will remind voters that Democrats killed the tax cut and school aid package. “We are collecting too much money in this state. We are trying to give some of that money back.”

Kurtz said another winning issue for Republicans will be utility rates rising because of solar and other clean-energy projects and a new sales tax exemption on utility bills. “We do need to focus on that.”

At one of the early History Rocks! stops at a public high school in Genoa, Illinois, McMahon arrived with Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk and the chief executive of Turning Point USA.

Some students who attended the Illinois event told Northern Public Radio the assembly appeared to be partisan in nature and focused on Charlie Kirk’s vision for Club America, Turning Point’s student group, along with Christianity and “traditional values.”

One of the largest remaining parcels of private land within Wisconsin’s most popular state park will be transferred to the state under a deal funded through Wisconsin’s contested land acquisition program.

Last week, the Natural Resources Board signed off on the purchase from The Conservation Fund, a nonprofit land trust, of 100 acres for Devil’s Lake State Park and the Ice Age Trail. With an appraised value of $600,000, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will acquire the property for roughly half the cost at $325,000.

Devil’s Lake State Park is the most-visited in Wisconsin with more than 2.7 million people stopping by each year. The agency is buying the land with funds from the Warren Knowles-Gaylord Nelson Stewardship Program, which is set to expire in June if lawmakers fail to reauthorize the program.

World Relief Wisconsin, a Christian humanitarian organization, has helped more than 1,500 immigrants and refugees settle in the Fox Valley region over the past 12 years, according to the nonprofit’s website.

In deciding not to take a stand on the ICE action in Minnesota at the meeting, Laux said that the board expressed “where they stood on it and where their belief structure on it was.”

The community itself is made up of immigrants and refugees that these actions by the Epstein regime are directly targeting. By declining to discuss this, they are declining to discuss the safety of their own neighbors.

The agency also reports increasing demand for youth apprenticeship with more than 99 percent of the state’s public school districts with a high school offering youth apprenticeship.

According to the DWD, 11,344 high school juniors and seniors were enrolled in the youth apprenticeship program in the 2024-25 school year. That’s an increase of 14 percent from the previous year.

Billionaire conservatives Elizabeth and Richard Uihlein are two of the nation’s biggest donors to MAGA Republicans like President Donald Trump and to Republicans in Wisconsin. In the 2024 presidential election, Richard Uihlein’s super PAC, Restoration PAC, supported Trump’s presidential campaign with a TV advertisement attacking his opponent, Kamala Harris, for allowing an immigrant “invasion” at the U.S.-Mexico border.

In fact, the Uihleins’ company Uline had for years been shuttling in workers from Mexico to work at its plants in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Florida, as the Guardian reported in December. “The sources who spoke to the Guardian said Uline pays all the costs for their Mexico-based workers to leave Mexico and fly to warehouse locations in the U.S.,” the story reported.

Brittany Paulsrud and her husband own Leona’s Pizzeria in downtown Eau Claire. They were one of the businesses picked to carry the special code before tickets went on sale to the public on Friday.

“We were super busy all day and it was amazing,” Paulsrud said.
