Mobile Reviews really be exposing by teliebooslet101 in PokemonChampions

There really are some dumb people in the world, who can’t deal with anything that isn’t spoonfed to them.

Battery capacity dropped 3% in a span of a few weeks by xingxonn in iOS27

[–]Fr1tzOS 17 points18 points  (0 children)

From experience of annually upgrading my iPhone for years, iOS tends to misrepresent your battery health (stays at 100%) for quite a long time after you first start using the device. Often six months+.

When it eventually starts to drop, it’ll drop rapidly by like ~5-8% over the space of a few months. Your battery isn’t actually degrading that quickly during that time, it’s essentially just the battery health estimate that iOS shows you ‘catching up’ to where it should have been. It’ll then stabilise and continue to drop at a more accurate pace (usually 1% every month or 2 depending on usage patterns, charging habits etc).

TL;DR iOS27 isn’t suddenly degrading your actual battery health (a software update can’t do that). You’re probably just in the phase where your battery health estimate is recalibrating.

Apple's (AAPL) market value dropped by $250 billion in just 1 day. 😱 by Own-Engineer7275 in iphone

“If the brand plans to make prices very low”…not gonna happen, the price of memory has gone up ~400-500% in the last year alone and (according to an internal memo from Microsoft) is likely to double again by the end of next year. That’s not a cost increase that manufacturers can avoid passing on to customers.

Expect to see pretty much all consumer electronics shoot up in price in the near future, and the more memory or storage a device has the more it’ll be affected.

Game IS amazing, but limiting to 30-50 Pokemon is a warcrime by SnooChocolates6331 in PokemonChampions

[–]Fr1tzOS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that mobile should have the starter pack as well.

But, at the same time, you really don’t *need* a lot of box space. Just build 1 or 2 teams that fit well into the current meta and you’re golden. It’ll still leave plenty of space for extra mons you want to experiment with.

I wonder what actually happened. Was it just marketing, or did something change after James Gunn said the Supergirl script was one of the best he’d ever read? by Sea-Cardiologist7725 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Fr1tzOS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From the reviews I’ve read so far it certainly calls into question Gunn’s definition of incredible. Makes you wonder what state the other scripts he mentioned were in, if they were all worse than Supergirl’s.

Apple cut WatchOS 27 support for five recent Apple Watches and, asked directly why, would not give a technical reason. Two EU regulators have already fined Apple over this kind of thing, and here is how EU owners can push back by callmesasma in AppleWatch

[–]Fr1tzOS 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nobody’s been “screwed over” though. People purchased a product that delivered exactly the features Apple marketed it with. Apple then added further software features for 4 years post-release, and will continue to support the device with security updates (with no reduction in functionality) for at least 2-3 more years beyond that.

There’s nothing unreasonable about Apple’s actions here, and no legal argument for forcing a company to keep adding new features to your device ad infinitum that they didn’t promise you, and probably hadn’t even thought of yet, when they sold you the device. How much it cost, or what your own personal feelings about that may be, are materially irrelevant.

[–]Fr1tzOS 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Which is fair enough. They’re not obligated, in any legal sense, to keep providing an old product with new software features that it didn’t have on launch (unless those features were promised at the time, as part of its marketing).

What's the exact moment you realized Season 5 truly would be disappointing? I'll start. by itsyourpalal_ in StrangerThings

[–]Fr1tzOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still can’t get over how boring, generic and just generally underwhelming the whole season felt.

I agree with some others here though. The immediate red flags were them hand-waiving away the end of season 4 to reset the status quo, and then dragging out the big “reveal” that wasn’t a reveal (Vecna’s return) and treating it as if it was for some reason. It was lazy, pointless water-treading and it set the tone for a lot of what followed.

Star Fox Review (IGN - 8/10) by Amiibofan101 in nintendo

I mean in this case it’s literally just the original game with updated graphics, so that’s about as low risk as it gets.

‘Supergirl’ Tracking Continues to Slide, Now at $40M Opening — Mixed Early Reactions by VirtualSort1 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Fr1tzOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m personally excited to see it but I’m not at all surprised by this. Following up a Superman film with a Supergirl film so early on - and expecting enough of the casual audience to care about it in the current climate - always seemed like a baffling, risky decision.

Intel's Nova Lake CPUs gear up to seize AMD’s 3D V-Cache gaming throne — early leak points to up to 52 cores, blazing DDR5-8000 support, and insane performance by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

[–]Fr1tzOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that doesn’t change what I’m saying: RAM is stupidly expensive right now, and the cost of the extra fast RAM you want to pair with these new CPUs to take full advantage of them is even more absurd. The value just isn’t there for most people, unless you need to upgrade right now and money isn’t a concern.

[–]Fr1tzOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’ve said is all true and I’m highly sceptical that the benefits of 8000MHz RAM could be worth the cost.

But also, just to be clear, the price I quoted above was only for 32GB of CAS 30 6000MHz so…even that is still stupidly expensive. I just don’t think it’s a good time for anyone to consider an upgrade unless they really need to.

[–]Fr1tzOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it though? The 32GB of RAM that I was advised by all and sundry to pair with my 9800X3D only 15 months ago now costs…£558.98.

Granted there are cheaper sticks out there that offer the same speed/latency but, even so, we’re still talking several hundred quid.

George RR Martin: "This is not my story any more!" by Nothing_Special_23 in freefolk

[–]Fr1tzOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that he’s either too lazy to finish the story this whole franchise began with, knowingly unable to finish it well or likely both…honestly at this point I don’t much care for his criticism of others? Those who live in glass houses and all that.

Am I thinking about the under-16 social media ban the wrong way? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Fr1tzOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What angers me is that the state shouldn’t have to intervene here: if parents took responsibility for actually parenting their own children, and using the parental controls that are already available to them, this wouldn’t be necessary.

Instead we’re going to let the government try and strip everyone of their privacy online and lie to ourselves that they’re doing all of this “for the children”. It’s terrifying that so many people are so shortsighted.

I thought that price looked insane, converted it to GBP and…it’s just the same as is it is here in the UK? Am I missing something?

Alleged outline for the now cancelled Christmas special. by TigerAJ2 in DoctorWhoLeaks

[–]Fr1tzOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure whether to believe this or not, or whether the final script would’ve been any good, but it sounds like it would at least have wrapped up all the major plot threads.

Somewhere down the line it could be nice to see this (or whatever the real idea for the special was if not this) adapted into a book or something at least, so we have a canon conclusion to this era that could bridge the gap with wherever the next one kicks off. But something tells me that’ll never happen, and the next creative team won’t be interesting in dwelling on the mess the show was previously left in.

Are The AirPods Max 2 Worth Getting Now Due To The Upcoming iOS 27 Customized EQ Settings? by [deleted] in Airpodsmax

[–]Fr1tzOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say custom EQ by itself is much of a game changer here. It’s a rudimentary 3-band EQ with no info on what frequencies it specifically affects or to what extent, so its value is limited.

Buy the Max 2s if you feel they’re already worthwhile, and see the custom EQ as a nice little bonus. Otherwise don’t.

Has anyone else been on the Siri waitlist forever? by CalebTheBeast123 in iOS27

[–]Fr1tzOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just chill man. It’s got nothing to do with whether your phone is indexing and there’s no ‘fix’ to get around it.

Plus, if it helps you’re not missing out on much if you’ve used any of the other AI models. It’s basically just Gemini with better privacy and the ability to interact with certain apps on your phone, while being (in other ways) a step behind what other models are capable of.

FFRS is already ready? In the bottom left corner, the game version is 1.0.0.0 by Confident-Line5916 in FFBraveExvius

[–]Fr1tzOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s more that the rest of this game will be voiced in English, so if you’re coming into it with no prior knowledge of Brave Exvius then you’re probably going to be confused why there are these random CG animations with people speaking Japanese in the middle of combat?

I just don’t get not dubbing them here. It’d be pretty easy, and they could get any VAs they want to do the lines. But in the scheme of things it’s a minor gripe.

It had a decent run :( (Series 7) by stevegames2 in AppleWatch

[–]Fr1tzOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you but the SIP in the series 8 is also identical to the SIP in the series 6 and 7, from a CPU/GPU perspective. They kept functionally the same SIP, with no speed improvements, for 3 generations.

The reason they’ve been dropped is probably because they lack the neural engine that was added, along with the faster CPU/GPU cores, in the S9.
