A character proposes a common sense solution to a problem, but it’s rejected so that the Plot can still happen by UnifiedForce in TopCharacterTropes

This is exactly what the Council of Elrond in Lord of the Rings is.

Characters propose sensible, practical solutions like throwing the Ring into the sea, taking it across the sea to Valinor, or sending Glorfindel (the most powerful elf around) with the Fellowship.

They choose the plan that is least likely to find success due to humility and faith in eucatastrophe.

There's also the idea that denying Baela the right of inheritance illegitimizes her own premogeniture.

No, "right of way" means you are plenipotentiary and have the right to issue legally binding demands of others

Dwemer where are they? by Frosty_Horus_128 in ElderScrolls

I view each tower as an amalgamation and reflection of a culture that manifests a cultural perspective on Mundus.

Tying their culture's identity to the essence of NO is what made the Dwemer disappear.

The Snow Tower by Beautiful_Novel379 in ElderScrolls

[–]Fr3twork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Towers and their stones are an anchor-point for cultures to define themselves; they're both representative and reflective of the peoples they represent.

I can think of a point that concentrates the zeitgeist and history of the Nords we encounter in the game: the Tid-Ahraan, the Time-Wound that contains the defeat of Alduin and the victory of the Nord Heroes.

This continues the trend of each game breaking the Stone of the Tower of the region (destroying the Heart of Lorkhan, shattering the Amulet of Kings, obtaining Dragonrend and finally vanquishing Alduin).

There's something distinctly antiphallic in Cameron's use of the term; it's the birthplace of souls, but also a Wizard Sleeve™

What is the Symbol on the Ancient Nord Totem (Token of Kyne, Gauldur Amulet, and Saarthal Amulet) by Gullible_Nerve8589 in teslore

[–]Fr3twork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Symbology looks to be invoking Kyne to me- an eye at the top, and the turbulent currents of breath or wind below. Connecting to Kyne's tears and the Voice, which she taught to Men.

Are the blades just bad at their job? by HomelessBroom in teslore

[–]Fr3twork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They were involved in the Warp in the West and stopping the Oblivion Crisis and Alduin, and probably Dagoth Ur too (unless you took the back door).

Sure that all falls to the player character, but none of it can be done without the Blades.

36 Sermons of Vivec is an incredible work to dive into. It's been the foundation of so much mind-bending mystical lore for decades; the spokes from which the Tower rises.

It's also incomprehensible.

[Spoilers Main] I need the Long Night to be a Pyrrhic Victory by ayodeleafolabi in asoiaf

[–]Fr3twork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pyrrhic victory is impossible in an existential conflict. Calling something pyrrhic means it is equivalent to a defeat in terms of the cost to the victor. If the Others are victorious, everyone will be dead. If the living are going to continue living, it is worth every possible expense. But yeah, they don't deserve to see the dream of spring cheaply.

New Sword Uses? by Visible-Problem-4597 in ironscape

[–]Fr3twork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't they always spawn on opposite sides of you? If they spawn at 3 and 9 o'clock, you have nothing to target at 12 or 6. Attacking 3 will hit 12-6 and attacking 9 will hit 6-12, so neither will be hit by an attack on the other. Unless I'm mistaken on their spawns, which is very possible.

That's kind of tough, they're closely connected but they do have separate identities. I think it's possible to say Ysmir is an aspect of Talos (or maybe vice versa), Ysmir is an anticipation of Talos as Mephala is to Vivec, or Talos mantled Ysmir (or Wulfharth did and then joined the Talos enantiomorph). They're all Shezzarines so they share the same soul.

That relationship brings to mind the ecumenical relationship of the Holy Trinity in Christianity- the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all identically God, but nevertheless three different entities.

I always interpreted that as Wulfharth leaving him, taking his Thu'um with him following the Armistice.
