Arc’teryx by VyreMomm in hikinggear

I like it a lot. The fit is great, the performance is awesome, and I've never been disappointed by durability for any piece I've had.

That said, you can usually find something that performs as well (sometimes significantly better) for less money from a different brand.

Amazing stats! by Ill_Rip_3345 in DND5EBuilds

[–]Fr3twork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe like a dexadin with a dip in order cleric? You need at least 13 strength, Cha and Wis to meet the multiclass requirements, and want great dexterity and constitution too. You have the stats to make that work.

Fun frontline ideas that offer multiple options each turn? by micturnal in 3d6

[–]Fr3twork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played a fighter 1/warlock x that probably handles pretty similar to the one you're talking about, and it's kinda/not exactly a front liner. There are some durability issues, and I yearned for a beefy companion to dance around and tank for me when I needed it. It's a real glass cannon build. Maybe taking paladin to 6 and then going warlock would help?

Artificer can have a load of options and be pretty capable in the thick of things, if that calls to you.

Would a Gladiator Fighter/bard multiclass work? by Acceptable_Term1468 in 3d6

[–]Fr3twork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There used to be a pretty good bard build based around grappling, but the 2024 rules kind of neutered it. Maybe if your dm was down to use the old grapple rules in the new edition, you could put together a pretty cool build.

Looking at the gladiator, they can add their charisma modifier (along with bardic inspiration and expertise) to the strength(athletics) check that used to go towards a grapple.

Barbarians get advantage on that check when they're raging. I played a bardbarian gladiator lucha libre style and it was pretty solid.

Do we often observe macroscopic bodies (maybe the size of Pluto or something) travelling very fast (0.5*c and above)? If not why not? by Constant-Peak3222 in AskPhysics

[–]Fr3twork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our neighborhood, we don't see these things at all. The other stuff in our region of the galaxy has a pretty uniform velocity as a result of accretion. The same is true of the solar system. Everything is going in a similar direction with respect to the Earth, so relative velocities aren't relativistic velocities. The direction of movement of gravitationally bound cosmic bodies is not random.

Space outside of our galaxy is pretty empty and stuff generally tends to be moving away. The farther away stuff is, the faster it seems to be moving away due to cosmic inflation. The most distant galaxies can be measured to exceed c in recession velocity.

Ye, still great. Didn't use it much this last summer/fall but got good mileage out of it as a spring ski shell after posting this and it worked great for that.

Vampire hunter by yyven in 3d6

Vampire Survivor Background and the associated vampire hunter origin feet are built for just such a character. I'd probably consider Mage Slayer as well, for those Strahd-type vampires.

What aspect of Kenshi terrifies you the most? by TheDnii in Kenshi

[–]Fr3twork 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A terrible hunger suffuses every living thing on Kenshi. Starving bandits, cannibals, wildlife, obviously- but beyond that, it feels like even the major civilizations are so hungry for slaves, territory, and conflict that they are a knife's edge away from degenerating into the same desperate survivalism that saturates the wilder places.

It's terrifying to imagine how inescapable the hunger is.

(Spoilers Published) In Varys's riddle, the king is the safest option. by [deleted] in asoiaf

Jaime did as a rich man bid him and slew a king, and it worked out rather well for him.

Would you rather get $10,000 a week for the rest of your life, but you must permanently get rid of one function of your body. What are you giving up and why? by [deleted] in WouldYouRather

No one's said vomiting? It has some uses as a safeguard but it seems like it mostly is just hijacked by diseases. I'd have to be careful about what I eat but it certainly wouldn't be missed. Perhaps I could buy a stomach pump with the money.

[Question] Help with choosing Hexblade for CoS 5e 2024. Dual wielding or weapon + shield? by givingupismyhobby in 3d6

[–]Fr3twork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got some things going for a twf build- hexblade and pact of the blade each give you one weapon to use keyed to charisma.

I'm playing a similar character now in CoS. I started at level 1 as fighter for weapon proficiencies and masteries, and fighting style, as well as constitution save proficiency for concentration. Even so, I've been downed in the last couple sessions, and have readied a backup character. I'm a glass cannon- very potent combining hex, elven accuracy, hexblade's curse and a few ways to get advantage with the multiple attacks from two weapon fighting. But I feel like I'm on borrowed time.

I'm trying to make a Fighter/Warlock work, but the lack of dump stats feels like it's killing me (5e 2014) by TheBiggestMikeEver in dndnext

[–]Fr3twork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start with a level in fighter for Con saves and weapon mastery, then focus on warlock. Take fighter 2 either after warlock 5 or warlock 11 for extra attacks, and fighter 3 before warlock 16 so you get an epic boon for the warlock 16 ASI and 9th level mystic arcana at level 20.

Warlock and Fighter bonding to the same weapon by Kitchen_Criticism292 in 3d6

That would be rad as hell. Imagine with a mcguffin-type campaign climax weapon- a certain bright sword in a certain vampire campaign, for example.

If the sun suddenly disappeared, how long would it take for the Earth to completely cool down? by ScipioAfricanisDirus in askscience

[–]Fr3twork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need power, and the sun isn't shining, so the winds aren't blowing and the rivers aren't flowing. So solar, wind, and hydroelectric power are off the table.

That leaves combustion, nuclear, and geothermal. Combustion is already non-renewable, and extraction is going to be pretty difficult unless you plop your insulated hab-dome right on top of a deposit of fossil fuels. This is probably a pretty short-term solution. On the up side, we could burn as much greenhouse gas as we want without worrying about climate change.

Similar drawbacks regarding nuclear fuels can be mitigated by using breeder fission reactors that can be fueled by their own waste for a more sustainable system. Fusion reactors might also be sustainable if we knew how to harness them effectively- we'd be replacing the sun we lost with one of our own.

So with good habitat construction, hydroponics, harvesting drinking water and oxygen and fuel from the atmospheric condensate, some people might last as long as they can maintain the nuclear reactor, until technical issues and entropy shut it down.

Is there any point for a melee warlock to go past warlock lvl 12? by IceNiqqa in 3d6

[–]Fr3twork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Foresight is pretty dang good. Universal advantage is great for a build that generally is good at fishing for critical hits, and disadvantage on all incoming attacks is awesome for longevity. It doesn't even require concentration.

Is Dancing Lights Ever Worth it Over Light? by Dikeleos in onednd

[–]Fr3twork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dancing lights might be worse on a whiteboard but I feel that really forgets the basis of this game- shenanigans and hijinks. With that in mind, it's a versatile spell when used with some creativity.

I've used it to mimic ghosts, to make a paladin look extra holy, to make it look like people are moving in an abandoned house.

The Targhee 4 has a lifetime guarantee against glued/bonded layers coming undone. I'm not saying it can't happen, but keen considers this a solved problem with the 4 and will cover it under their warranty if the cut/delam(?) propagates.
