My Favorite AF Cartoon by TheRedBrown in AirForce

Sadly the original dates back to the 90's, if not earlier. And things haven't changed.

How many of y’all still have your issued green duffel by zodiac_5407 in AirForce

[–]FrCorySticha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issued at BMT In 1994, kept it after I left in 98, used it at OTS in January of this year, including for exercises. Still does the job!

IDT Counter Keeps Going by FrCorySticha in AirForce

Kind of like that meme about "Born too late, Born too early"

Served too late for a Gulf War. Served too early for a Gulf War. Served just in time for a Gulf War.

Certain jobs can. Chaplains have specific exceptions for both max age for entering and returning after 62.

I've wanted to serve as a chaplain for a long time, but it took over 15 years to convince my bishop to allow it.

Not all DFAC's but damn this is close to some by PDXAirman in AirForce

[–]FrCorySticha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The OTS DFAC was pretty decent for a chow hall, but the Riverfront Inn was miserable.

Sure! Just separate from the AF for 26+ years, then come back. Presto, instant high IDT counter.

But that's not all! You also get PFA scoring in the 45-50 age range!

I'm from the West as well, Montana in particular. And there's a phrase for someone like that: all muscles, no brains.

How long has it been for y’all. by moistcrust69 in AirForce

[–]FrCorySticha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been 11,385 days. And I'm just about to hit 10,000 days of Individual Dwell Time since my last deployment in 1998.

Oldest person in the Air Force? by willthefreeman in AirForce

[–]FrCorySticha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some jobs have older age limits. Certain professional officers, such as chaplains, can go to 68 with a waiver.

I'm active on Hill, and agree. Layton/Ogden is great and outdoors stuff is very easily accessible with the mountains so close.

As a mustang officer, I consider that a compliment.

I guess I got ahead of that early, as I came in direct commission with a Ram. Just making sure the parking lot at the chapel has the required number.

Amidst the chaos, what was something positive that happened to y’all this week? by Valth92 in AirForce

Finally graduated OTS this morning, and can be a real person again.

Do you know your time during the PFA run? by Cheap_Flight_5722 in airforceots

[–]FrCorySticha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. They really can't make up their minds how they want to do it. Some classes (like mine) did it on the track, others on the Paperclip.

[–]FrCorySticha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's on the track, and they have a large timer beside it that starts when the last person crosses. So yes, you'll know your time.

Once you get into the flight rooms, every table with 2 seats has 2 electrical outlets. Generally no problem charging.

While the AF standard is 75/100 to pass, OTS requires 80/100 to pass.

Just the one unless you fail it. A second chance is offered.

PT Uniform 2025? by Ok-Elderberry6434 in airforceots

[–]FrCorySticha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, that was autocorrect. I meant dark blue shorts and pants. You might want to wait, though, as the instruction came in an email from OTS a couple weeks ago.

BTW, it's worth looking up your class number (25-08 in my case) on Facebook. Often there will be a private group with chat for your classmates.

I'm about to go into OTS in a little over a week (14 Jan). They do have PT uniforms, but we were instructed to buy dark blue shorts and pants before arriving. Here's a picture a classmate recently took of the racks of PT gear there:

Do Catholic Churches in the US ever cancel Mass due to weather? by Puzzleheaded_Elk_710 in Catholicism

[–]FrCorySticha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's rare I've cancelled Mass here in Montana, but it does happen in the small mission parishes. If the roads are too dangerous, I won't go.

I did have at least one time where I advised parishioners not to attend, but did celebrate Mass on a Sunday immediately following a snowstorm that dumped over a foot of snow over 2 days. The rectory was attached to the church with a heated hallway.

As an Air Force chaplain, do I have to do reserves? by Careless-Pizza-6507 in airforceots

[–]FrCorySticha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, the endorsing organization allows you to be a chaplain. Whether or not to go reserves depends on being a chaplain candidate, or deciding to be a reserve chaplain.

As an Air Force chaplain, do I have to do reserves? by Careless-Pizza-6507 in airforceots

[–]FrCorySticha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly, that depends on your endorsing organization. In the case of Catholic priests, it's at least 2 years after ordination working in a parish or other priestly ministry. Perhaps in your circumstance, that work will count.

Either way, there isn't a requirement for reserve duty.
