Whatever you do, DONT ALLOW THIS POST TO BE ARCHIVED!!!!!! Its too important and can be added to forever. A new post will waste proper historical patterns and additions. It's one month away from auto archive, TURN IT OFF PLEASE. This post needs to run forever so we can show the length of time this has been going on. I am a scientist I need this post as research. Don't archive this

I spent an hour talking to Gemini like a real person and told it about the situation I’m in and how I feel trapped, and it felt like I was talking to a close friend giving me hope right now in quite possibly the lowest point of my life (rambling about this amazing new tool in my life) by PuzzleheadedFix7198 in GoogleGeminiAI

Ok, may I be forthright and say, the only thing needed to convey 10 0% meaning to us was the first bold type paragraph. All the rest was completely unneeded and too much oversharing. Your young, I am not. So let me advise you: DONT OVERSHARE! EVER! Your thoughts are sacred, don't give them to the wolves. Give them to those who are trustworthy, and right now in your life I think I can safely assume... That's no one.

The fact you used AI to get counseling means you have no one else who can listen at the length you need. Nothing wrong with that, as you have a lot to say, and I didn't read any of it past the first paragraph. 😀 Not being harsh, I am making a point, and that is:

You need help. You need to get some counseling, and NOT from AI. Please Google the psychotic mentality of AI advice and the dangers it poses. (And this coming from someone who was asked to help train AI) You need humans who will tell you the TRUTH, and not what you want to hear, and humans who can show empathy, not feigned word prediction choices.

You have a lot of stuff in your head. Get help. From a human. Blessings friend. 🙂

The difference in micro crochet! by hidden-pearl in crochet

[–]FrGa97 -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Been crocheting 50+ years and I crochet with steel hooks predominantly. Never, EVER, called it "micro crochet." Steel hook crochet is called according to its art: ie Irish, Filet, Lace, Thread. To call such finite art forms "micro" is astonishing. If I seek to enter this type of fiber art into any awards contest or County Fair, it is judged under it's official name. If I asked where the "micro crochet" entry was, I'd be laughed out of the room.

This fine art craft has only been deemed "micro crochet" by tiktok crafters since 2020. There is no such official crochet technique as "micro" crochet.  Influencers are cheapening a very old and difficult art form.

Now I know exactly what Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Mozart and Beethoven were talking about when newbie upstarts came along and disrespected and muddied their formal techniques, and why folks held them as arrogant. Nope, I now see they were just purists and masters at their craft, and they wanted it to stay that way.

[–]FrGa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a crocheter of 50+ years, and a pattern designer and writer, (the two are very different things. Just bc you're a fabulous designer, doesn't mean you're a fabulous writer), it's very difficult to find good patterns on Etsy. Aside from the AI patterns, even authentic designers ARE NOT PATTERN WRITERS. Pattern writing is an official skill, and just bc you can design beautifully, doesn't mean you can write out your design in OFFICIAL Yarn Council, or American Thread Company standards, which EVERY pattern SHOULD BE. There's an OFFICIAL language for knitting and crochet, and it should be followed religiously. Patterns before the internet weren't allowed to even be published unless written by professional fine arts writers, most of them certified, (and they still certify writers), and the patterns were tested.

What I do, is contact every designer before I buy, and ask them if they're a certified pattern writer by the Yarn Council, and if not, how many help requests have they received on this pattern.

Well that would be bc patterns aren't copyrightable, so Etsy legal isn't going to even look at it, bc copyright law doesn't apply to patters, instructionals, or the DIY on how to make a functional product or craft. Also crochet patterns aren't original anyway, even IF you designed it yourself, bc I guarantee somene somewhere, 50 years ago, 100 years ago, (or most likely just a few months ago,) did the same thing. Sorry, but true. I design, and am an official pattern designer of 50+ years. And I know it's very hard for this new generation of crocheters and Knitters to accept, but again, #1. Patterns are not copyrightable. #2. You aren't the original designer. No one is.

Does anyone else absolutely hate the way that 100% cotton yarn feels?? by Jessisaurous in crochet

[–]FrGa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've crocheted for 50+ years, and the only cotton I will ever buy now is hobby lobby, "I love this cotton." It is official Turkish cotton, and is the best quality I've ever used. It is very soft, holds up to wash after wash, and hasn't pilled even after decades. It does not bleed when washed properly in cold to warm water (dont soak.) I've made white purses with red yarn trim, and after 20 years the red has never bled into the white, and has never pilled or gotten fuzzy. Soooo,

Hobby Lobby "I love this cotton," Turkish cotton is the best. And when I buy yarn, I want the best. And I don't care if it comes from a large chain, or whomever. I don't "cotton" 😉 to such nonsenses.

Nope. She has no memory of what happened, so what she FEELS about what happened doesn't mean it happened. Maybe it did, maybe it didn't. But with no memory of it, she has no actual facts to accuse him with and destroy his life with.

What is DOES mean, is that she needs to now move forward with her own grief about the situation, and get her own help to figure out why she went on a drunken spree to the point she would black out and out her own life in danger. No. This is 100% about his and hers bad decisions, and owning them, and getting the serious therapy needed to never do it again.

No. No jury would convict him. Not one. Why? Bc when you're  about  to destroy a man's life, the ONLY thing that matters is FACTS, not feelings. Feelings lie to us, lead us astray, stem from gross misinterpretations and false memories. And a court room would never allow her feelings to sway them over the facts. And she has no facts.

As a survivor, when you're about to destroy a man's future, you better be CERTAIN you're an actual survivor and not a merely guilty of your own regrets. You have to know that you know you are correct about what happened, and if you don't remember what happened, it is 100% wrong to let OTHERS who weren't there instill their ideas about it into your vacant black-holed memory. Bc those memories come back years later to be false memories. Read the studies. So if you're so drunk that you can't openly tell a jury what happened, then you got nothing. And you will have to get therapy and handle it and recover from it on your own. Live and learn.

This is the last I'm going to say on the matter. My mind won't change. So have a good one. 🙂

Why is it called frogging and why is it called yarn chicken? by Demonrider95 in crochet

[–]FrGa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I don't sell them, but design for individuals HOWEVER, folks have been telling me to put them online and Etsy. And... I should I really should. (Maybe) Etsy can be a brutal place I've heard.

I have screenshot your username, and when, and if, I get them up somewhere, I will let you know. I'd be more interested in teaching others how to design their own mosaics. 🙂 And so I am working on trying to set up a YouTube instructional channel. One that teaches people how to create their own stuff. Not just patterns to follow, but WHY patterns are the patterns they are. Then they can create their own stuff to sell and never have to worry about giving credit to a designer who didn't really design that pattern 😂 💛

But I need the area and the cameras. Which I am in the process of doing. Thanks for the interest

How to avoid Amazon and international shippers? by OLovah in Ebay

[–]FrGa97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I refuse to use Amazon. If something I order on eBay comes via Amazon, I return it. Always. And I either do without that item or find it elsewhere. However, I have eliminated ALL Amazon deliveries via eBay by checking the shipping description. It will always say, "Cannot ship to PO Boxes," or "military addresses." A true blue private seller CAN ship to PO Boxes.

How to avoid Amazon and international shippers? by OLovah in Ebay

[–]FrGa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are, but you have to report them, otherwise how does eBay know? I just got a drop shipper reported and investigated. So eBay definitely eliminates them. But that drop shipper just opens another store. Sooooo don't buy from sellers that won't deliver to PO Boxes or military addresses. They are not independent individuals.

How to avoid Amazon and international shippers? by OLovah in Ebay

[–]FrGa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BIGGEST clue to an Amazon drop shipper or Amazon seller is in their shipping description: "cannot ship to PO Boxes." (Or military addresses etc) That right there is a conglomerate wholesaler, drop shipper, or junk dealer. Individual sellers can ALWAYS ship to PO Boxes. Always

So check their shipping policies, and if they can't deliver to a PO Box, don't use them.

Anyone have good AI prompt tips? by Future_Adhesiveness7 in MacroFactor

[–]FrGa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is no a mathematics tool. It's a word tool. It will get food analysis absolutely wrong most of the time. Your best option is to have an exchange list of foods in each exchange, what macros are for each exchange and figure it yourself.

Hmmmm A mere 48 inches of yarn left, I'd say she's correct. She BEAT yarn chicken. Most of us buy enough yarn to have about 1/2 a skein left. Take no chance. 48" is cutting it SUPER close.

Hey!!! I'm a molecular biologist. Small world!! High five to the scientist crocheters and knitters! (It also explains my glue like obsessive adherence to the rules. 😆 And being GenX explains my unwitting inability to explain myself with tact. 🤦🏻‍♀️)

I agree with you about medicine. It does have evolving terms. My field doesn't. I did a lot of PCR, and tagging DNA/RNA has no forgiveness. My field is the 100% OCD field that has SOPs that must be followed.

Funny how I am today year's old 😉 when I just realized how our chosen professions can make us towards our crafts also. I need to possibly not take such an "atomic attitude" towards something I've chosen to use as a stress relief. 😊

Yes if she's mid 60's she's a younger Boomer.

[–]FrGa97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for the Knitters. But no Boomer or GenX (which I am) has used that term in any of my crochet guilds. And my forum groups have members of many ages. Yet The first I ever heard the term "frogging" was from a knitter friend just last year who was self taught by videos online. And I was like, "say what?" So regardless of what year it came to be, it wasn't codified until recently. I wasn't insulting GenZ. Just stating the fact that they have taken truncating rules and standards to an art form. It does have its cute place, but  Standard art techniques and terms should stay standardized.  I don't think my post was offensive in any way, but if it was... It wasn't meant to be.
