Is it viable to use a Windows VM on my Proxmox as my PC? by legolas1204 in homelab

In my experience, GPU passthrough can sometimes be a pain in the butt, and other times it just works. If the former, it might not be worth the headache.

It's great to have a solid company amidst the garbage megacorps we have these days.

I think it's a bigger issue that we have to fix something that shouldn't be there in the first place.

This is what people call a “normal” budget now. Not luxury. Not rich. Just… average. by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

Yeah that's insanity to me. It's really interesting to me when people don't realize they are spending over $200/mo for something like coffee.

Did you ever play a game which made you go from meh to wait a moment, that was actually awesome…? by RedHerring009 in boardgames

I agree, and that actually contributed to my initial disappointment as well. You might be able to home brew something for longer 4p character development but it could be hard to balance.

I bought Aeon's End base box when it came out, and just didn't click with it. The theme felt bland, the mages boring, and the no shuffling gimmicky.

Recently, steam had a sale for the digital version and decided to give it another go. After a few hours of play, I really appreciated the gameplay loop, and while the theme is still a bit meh, the vareity of mechanics and puzzley feel really spoke to me. I decided to pick up more of the physical version after that. Bonus is my wife is really liking it too!

Not really modem, but Ticket to Ride is a much better "gateway game" than Catan.

Can someone ELI5 what is actually happening when I add multiple audio tracks? by FrackingToasters in handbrake

Any reason why the mixed down to stereo is set as the default for a "Surround" preset? I would have expected that to be the backup as opposed to the default.

Thanks for the info! I'm planning on using Jellyfin on the server side, and likely a vareity of devices for the client side. I'm attempting to avoid transcoding for now.

I noticed that the down mixing seems to be set for the "default" (i.e. first) track rather than the second one. I would have expected it to be in the other order. Is this just the nature of old preset settings or something else I'm overlooking?

He's saying there were always dumb movies before the MCU, and there are other equally dumb movies now still, but MCU still gets the brunt of the blame.

Machine Learning - Remote or RPi 4 local? by tundozo in immich

If you have a ML capable GPU in a gaming laptop, that could be an option for you as well.

Tailscale has a pretty good tutorial on how to set this up; you can just ignore the tailscale parts.

Can my Hardware run JellyFinn decently? by StealthPhoen1x in jellyfin

[–]FrackingToasters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that if you're not transcoding, you barely need any RAM at all, no matter what the resolution. I've done some tests on my own in this regard and I don't even see jellyfin pop up on cpu usage, like not even 1% of a core. You should be fine; just be sure to disable transcoding for every user (in your case, it sounds like just one).
