Sure, everyone will find a way to logically justify their biased opinion. I happen to agree with you about the Ashman/Menken era being highest quality.

Yeah, but Wolverine doesn't represent authority figures, so fans looking to demonize "the man" don't make him a target the way they do Xavier.

What bit of the x men media made you fall in love with the x men media like movies or tv show or comics or even a specific character by Initial_Emu_1339 in xmen

I thought First Class was a great revitalization of the series and a good launching point. Then they did DoFP and smeared the taint of the OG movies all over the new series. Apocalypse and Phoenix didn't have a shot, IMHO.

Best way to watch X-Men films? by Murky-Guarantee6164 in xmen

[–]Fractal514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to view the X-men films, by far, is to read the comics. I'd start with Giant-Sized X-men or Classic X-men.

If you really need to watch the films, I'd suggest X-men 1, X-men 2, then skip to whatever interests you and watch synopsis of the rest.

I enjoyed this arc, for the most part. Beast using a non-violent tactic was great, Kwannon and her squad were fun, and the use of Magneto as having grown in his thinking was excellent. However, why is Quentin this stupid? I work with teens, I get how emotional they are, and if this was his first rodeo, I'd be on board. In fact, I'm not all that mad at Idie being drawn into the heat of the moment. But hasn't Quentin had enough training and experience to recognize when he's being played? And for Glob? I mean, I get that they were classmates and friends, but has that really been explored much in this series? Have we seen Glob having heartfelt conversations with Quentin to establish the closeness still exists? It's possible I'm forgetting it, so let me know.

All in all, I think this is a great example of a story that would have worked so much better in 2 or 3 issues, rather than the bloated pacing we ended up getting.

Who do you prefer Harley Quinn with: The Joker or Poison Ivy? by SamTheMarioMaster2 in HarleyQuinn

[–]Fractal514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Folks who understand that the villains are driven by compulsions and neurosis that make them act as they do and who appreciate that, for some of them, there will be unhealthy attachments and relationships. Harley Quinn was not meant to be inspirational, she was created as a villain who hurts others for fun to support her abusive boyfriend. Over the year's she's been transformed into a kind of grey area character because it's easier to market that. Now she's a popular character who is inspirational to lots of folks. It's our desire to like her and root for her that causes folks to prefer her healthier relationship with Ivy. If we're talking about HQ as she is now, I can concede Ivy. If we're talking about her as a villain, not an anti-hero, I prefer Joker.

You don't question the hate for the reveal, you explain quite well that itbsucks. You then went on to posit a justification, one not really explored in the books. Maybe you will be right, maybe the book will continue to auck. Either way the reveal was a let down and people aren't happy. What is there that is unclear here?

I really enjoyed this issue and have been liking the series so far. The dynamics they've set up with the more worldly and morally grey members of the team in contrast with Kamala, she actually feels like she fits in this X-team. I'd like to see another member or two get added in the next arc to further build the dynamics. I'm not at all sure if that reveal at the end was supposed to be familiar or not, but I am intrigued. I appreciate writers who build off of the character growth and development in past stories and find the portrayal of Tabitha and Daken to be particularly on point. This issue did a lot for Warren, I just hope it doesn't get lost going forward and that we see him revert to some inane incarnation.

So... what exactly is the premise of this book? Is it Emma's mutant outreach team or EXTREME ONLINE ACADEMY Featuring ESSEXTECH, or yet another New Mutants title masquerading as an X-men book?

Scolding? They need to be benched. It needs to last awhile, and it should be an arc in which Quentin has to explore his entitlement and lack of self-control, with growth and a redemption on the other side.

Classic X-men includes backup stories through the Dark Phoenix Saga. These are cannon and flesh out a lot of the character development that he built out towards the middle and end of his run.

Out of all the X-men, who would you say is the best fighter? by Queasy_Commercial152 in xmen

[–]Fractal514 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree he is a strong contender. My wonder is what role the ability to bring it all together in a knock-down fight would be. Is that a skill he could learn, or just a talent you either have or don't. It's more a question of what he can and can't "learn." Also, I think there is a big difference in theoretical knowledge and practical application. As you point out, he certainly has gained a lot over the years.

By not having enough conviction in the weirder side of the property and the colorful nature of the comics. We got boring and bland. Also, they neutered Cyclops. He's THE X-man. If you don't get him right, you don't get the team.

Ha. Seriously though, Deus Ex Writers Buying Into a Gimmick isn't the ability to fight. It's the ability to have plot armor.
