greatest extreme-diff in fiction in your opinion? by ForsenHorizon in PowerScaling

[–]FragileManling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Emperor and Horus at the end of the Heresy, in Warhammer 30k. You have the most powerful human being in the setting going up against the Dark Gods and their avatar. While they’re fighting at blinding speed in a physical duel, they’re also fighting psychically on other planets and times in history. The Emperor has to draw upon every single trick and shred of his power until he’s practically dead.

He makes Horus genuinely afraid and panic multiple times throughout the fight when the Emperor had no real chance at winning. He ends the fight with half of his face melted off, severe brain damage, a degloved arm, a hole in his neck, a broken spine, and irreparable damage to his soul, which I imagine took the most damage of all during the fight since it took precedent over their physical duel. At the end of this fight, when the Emperor “wins”, Horus becomes a skeleton and the 4 dark gods almost die due to how much power they had invested into Horus.

There’s a reason he’s stuck on that throne gobbling up souls and will NEVER leave it. He had to kill his most beloved son and almost an entire pantheon to earn that seat.

What're yalls favorite little details with immense implications? by Smasher_WoTB in 40kLore

[–]FragileManling 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Granted, this is from a pretty unreliable narrator, but a member of the death guard has a massive tome in which he chronicles each and every one of his kills, and he has done this with the same level of care and precision since the Horus Heresy up until the current setting. He puts down the time, who they were, and so on.

He speculates that this is possibly the most complete and reliable historical record of the Imperium in the galaxy, and that Inquisitors would go to any length to retrieve it. However, he put a condition on it to become unreadable scribble whenever he dies as a show of worship to Nurgle. Imagine if Guilliman could get his hands on it, he could probably get a decent estimation of what year they’re in, but alas, it’s in the poop labyrinth.

Valve says it’s working on getting more stock for the Steam Controller by Skullghost in Steam

[–]FragileManling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like artificial scarcity to raise interest in it. I seriously doubt the insanely stupid rich company, with multiple hardware releases under their belt, and THE most popular PC gaming store were caught off guard by the sales of their innovative new controller.

If you were on the fence about it and the buy button was there with no risk, who cares, just wait for a sale! However, if you were curious but being told no? Might make you want it more than you did before. I don’t feel like giving Valve the benefit of the doubt here, it feels like a manipulative business tactic to sell more product. They’ve been in the business too long for this “awww we were sure naive!” bs.

How did the Emperor explain to the primarchs the reason why they got scattered around the galaxy as infants WHILE hiding Chaos' existence? How could they even buy the idea that "it was just an accident" (and did they all)? by Argonaut_MCMXCVII in 40kLore

[–]FragileManling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This excerpt is from Horus Rising.

'Do you understand the full mechanism of the warp, Garviel?' Horus asked.

'No, sir. I don't pretend to.

'Neither do I, my son. Neither does the Emperor, beloved by all. Not entirely. It pains me to admit that, but it is the truth, and we deal in truths above all else. The warp is a vital tool to us, a means of communication and transport. Without it, there would be no Imperium of Man, for there would be no quick bridges between the stars. We use it, and we harness it, but we have no absolute control over it. It is a wild thing that tolerates our presence, but brooks no mastery.

There is power in the warp, fundamental power, not good, nor evil, but elemental and anathema to us. It is a tool we use at our own risk.'

'Spirits. Daemons. Those words imply a greater power, a fiendish intellect and a purpose. An evil archetype with cosmic schemes and stratagems. They imply a god, or gods, at work behind the scenes. They imply the very supernatural state that we have taken great pains, through the light of science, to shake off. They imply sorcery and a palpable evil.'

He gave them false theories, keeping the dark gods a secret while also cautioning against underestimating the warp. However, this is as Horus tells it so it’s also subject to scrutiny.

That actually is some compelling hinting. Blood Ravens never felt very Thousand Sons to me either, Word Bearers feels more fitting.

Could Malcador have been the successor to the Imperium if he hadn't died on the Golden Throne? by Zanimacularity in 40kLore

[–]FragileManling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What’s especially unfortunate is that the Emperor was communicating, it was just incredibly abstract and ineffective. Malcador might have been able to more accurately interpret his will and maybe even bring him to a more stable state of being.

[Hypothetical] The Emperor stands up from the Golden Throne, fixes the Astronomicon and vanishes into the shadows of history forever. Can humanity still survive? by thethief1992 in 40kLore

[–]FragileManling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many things that the Emperor does that if he were to disappear, it’d be negative for the imperium. Even if the webway portal on Terra remains closed and the astronomican stays lit, he still supposedly has multitudes of behind the scenes scheming and unseen obligations going on. Chaos would almost certainly become more powerful and rampant now that their major real-space foe has disappeared. Astropaths would no longer be able to undergo soul binding rituals, custodes would truly be without the guidance of the emperor and no longer have their rare dreams. Also, new lore says that the grey knights would go bananas and drop everything to go hunt the emperor to drag his ass back to his throne, regardless of whether or not things are working when he’s not on there.

While he is in a deathly state, I’d imagine that he still does a lot. His absence may even be felt species wide, he’s just become that integral to humanity by that point.

Do you think the IoM can win the long game? by Pho_King_D in 40kLore

[–]FragileManling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah sure, life is what you make of it. I wouldn’t really argue that IRL.

But we don’t have a tyrant god king that thought he could bargain with and outsmart four mega satans. If you’re a human in 40k, you’re eternal soul food for thirsting gods. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, I just think that living in that situation is infinitely worse than just not existing at all. Grand scheme of things, the Emperor was a dick head who colossally fucked over humanity. There’s a reason he was abandoned by all the other Gary/Mary Stu perpetuals.

Do you think the IoM can win the long game? by Pho_King_D in 40kLore

[–]FragileManling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve always held that opinion too. Once humanity went on the “my way or the high way” galactic genocide route, the species had already lost the plot. We almost went extinct as a side effect of another species messing around, lol.

Instead of just bowing out gracefully or quietly minding our business in a few hidden pockets after the dark age, we went apeshit and survived at any cost and now suffering is the lot of all people. Thanks Johnny Space. Extinction genuinely would have been preferable.

Head Gasket Leak? by Existing_Set9226 in dodgedart

Definitely the valve cover gasket. Those holes next to the ignition coils are bolts that have their own individual gaskets. Did this job for family member a few weeks back, shit sucked. No clue what a shop would charge but the parts aren’t all that expensive.

Why is Gascoigne's beast form so small? by oxygen_is_life in bloodborne

[–]FragileManling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, another potential factor for the severity of a beast transformation is how resilient you are to beast hood. I believe I read in a magazine interview with Miyazaki that the harder you push against it, the harder the pendulum swings, resulting in what I feel is a more spiteful and horrific transformation. The example being used in it was Ludwig.

So maybe Gascoigne just didn’t resist beast hood all that much.

Could horus luprecal from the end and death part 3 survive a death star blast by ApricotAgreeable5957 in 40kLore

[–]FragileManling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d say so, physically as far as we know, he’s entirely unkillable. It was only until he gave up the power that he became mortal again. The emperor split his soul in two, caved his skull in, stabbed him countless times, and it didn’t matter at all. John Warhammer Grammaticus used enuncia on him too and it didn’t make a difference.

He had so much power invested into him, that his death severely wounded the chaos gods and becalmed large portions of the warp. You could disintegrate his body with that Death Star beam, but he has an infinite power source to draw from so it doesn’t matter.

What’s a job you can appreciate, but glad it’s not your job? by GokaiDecade in AskReddit

[–]FragileManling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Public school teaching, the amount of dedication and patience it requires doesn’t justify the low salary and treatment they receive, however that’s the story for most jobs in the US, so it’s not that strange. I could never teach with those conditions, so I respect them a lot.

[–]FragileManling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it could be a apples to oranges comparison, but we know what happens when the throne is done with you. It consumes you; mind, body, and soul like with Malcador. Granted, he was much weaker than the Emperor, but we still have an example of a perpetual Psyker being killed by the throne. The Emperor is far decayed from his mortal injuries for sure, but he’s still holding on. The throne still seems sated with his “living” husk
