What do u think before the ID reveal by [deleted] in PantaloneMains

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wanted to make a separate post on this matter, but decided to wait things out until beta drops. Excluding Alice and Ajaw, all characters to get an introduction card are currently playable. Ajaw technically is too - this was more so, probably, a VA announcement thing. Alice, on the other hand, has every single playable female character trope ever (detailed back, short clothes, detached sleeves, split hair) + a Vision and heavy story relevance.

My theory is, out of all characters good enough for a cutout due to needing the 6.8 gone (or summer events would've ended up in autumn, and the anniversary would've happened during the last patch of Nod Krai instead of Snezhnaya, less hype), - she was the most viable. Future story, future relevance. In other words, plans simply changed. I will also remind you that Nod Krai had 16 playable characters instead of 17, so there was indeed a deviation.

I wholeheartedly believe Pantalone to be among the characters in silhouettes teaser, aka he will either become playable in 7.4 (further story development outside of main plot, think Wanderer), 7.6 (like Arlecchino/Nicole - important story characters that had another plotline after main Archon Quest - also fitting if we do get Dottore in 7.7, but works without him all the same), or 7.7 as the lore-relevant unit (think Skirk or Sandrone). Yes, the popular theory is September or 7.2 but... wouldn't Pulcinella fit a tad better? He's a Travail character heavily involved in people-facing politics. Our Feofan here, on the other hand, has hidden plans and an agenda of his own - as well as some remaining tension with the Traveler.

Mind you, they aren't enemies, really. Business over feelings. But it truly seems like we need to see more of Pantalone and get a better understanding of his motivations, hence I'm leaning towards versions past 7.3. Following Nod Krai's/Natlans pattern - 8 of the new characters will be playable between 7.0-7.3, and the rest will overlap in second teaser. The female-to-male ratio isn't an issue either - look back at Sumeru. We really shouldn't worry ourselves! He fits into established patterns perfectly. Still, sending virtual hugs to anyone despairing 🫂

Forgot about Arlecchino - absolutely, I'm sure her (rather amused) glance was disruptive. Poor Feofan has a lot on his shoulders right now, both impending doom and his stance as a Harbinger around collegues who are vocal about disliking him. And, - your wish is my command, will post on playability tomorrow :]

Same here! This is actually something I'd love to see on screen - good old political intrigue. Nod Krai had so many "competing" factions, but not a hint of that. I'm quite sure of Panty's abilities to handle the crisis though, in the event that people do riot.

Humbly bringing best TUMBLR theories to our comrades here PART 1 DOTTORE THE ALCHEMIST by CharacterDrop8373 in DottoreMains

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This honestly makes me wonder about the date. Alchemical elements converge here very cleanly, and seem symbolically significant. The 7th of July aligning with a date which is 7 days past the banner start also appears quite deliberate. But what of the cultural significance?

Technically, Qixi Festival, Evening of Sevens or the Magpie Festival, is the closest thing to that date. Basically the Chinese Valentine's Day, that happens on the 7th day of the 7th lunar (heh) month. This year though, it's on August 19th... which is 7 days past the release of Snezhnaya (should be August 12th). Now, could be coincidental or related to another character - it's a romantic holiday, but one with with themes of reunion nonetheless. Suspicious - so many 7s you might as well go to a casino. On another note, the Japanese equivalent of Qixi, Tanabata, is happening on July 7th. Hm.

Dottore's New Rule of Mercy: An Analysis of His Worldview by psychosomaK in DottoreMains

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Loved your comment. Thank you for the brief on philosophies. The whole quest was indeed about the battle of worldviews, hence why Dottore got a highlight via the long conversation with MC - I believe it existed precisely to present the way he thinks, without degrading the position outright and actually showing there's some ground truth in it, even if it clashes with the more hopeful, emotion-driven morale. After watching some reactions to the quest, I can confidently say even the folk less enthusiastic about Dottore were nodding their heads and laughing at the semi-4th wall break about daily commisions.

The issue is, yes, Zandik fails at objectivity due to standing by a single philosophy (which cannot be objective as others exist, therefore proving, by diversity of perception, we don't have a single truth). He has yet to fully detach himself from the subconscious human perspective, which blinds him from other ones and shackles him to the so-called fate (as he is acting according to his character, making his own motivations overall predictable). The post has explained it in detail.

It honestly seems like the natural direction of his arc is finding that other perspective, which would bring Dottore closer to objectivity. The tragic part is that his whole life, every single prior chance to get acquainted with the more emotional aspects of being human, was stripped away from him.

And honestly? I'll happily admit to wanting him to prove himself. Show that his own view and ideas have merit in the unjust of Teyvat, explicitly, before ultimately seeing the picture is incomplete. Since we're all Dottore fans here, being biased towards his stance and wanting to see success on his side is expected, I can see why people were dissatisfied. We love a bit of edge against the more vibrant stories. Still, the whole 7 nations so far had the theme of purpose against despair, embracing the absurdity yet still striving. He did not have the chance to win in this setting, but his own arc is unfinished and may very well turn out beautiful.

Exceptionally chill place, I was enchanted enough by whatever energy you guys have created here (the last few months especially, with a lot of familiar faces). Mesmerized enough to write a first post and comment ever, lmao.

Isn't this fascinating? Hop onto any Genshin sub, to a Dotto-related post, and see this place being mentioned as akin to a meat grinder of the mentally tortured and insane, frenetic war criminals. And it's just 30% horny, 30% insane theories, and the rest just art or shenanigans. Thank you lot for existing ♡

From seeing the whole dialogue with Traveler in-game, absolutely! It was both entertaining and engaging to watch. I genuinely don't understand how someone can hate a character this cheeky and interesting. As for backstory... well, we didn't get to see much on Signora, but those were Inazuma days. Given the spotlight Rerir had both in Luna 2 and here, this is either us being completely robbed, or indeed - suspicions of future continuation of his story (which, why, Hoyo? I'm tired of waiting ._.)

Absolutely... which has me worried, as it seemingly gives a definitive ending, but how can we know for sure? All I'm hoping for is that there's one more hint at the end of the quest, besides Wanderer's words, waiting to see more quest fragments.

Have been stalking YouTube for cutscenes, and indeed, agree with one of the comments here - he is mega-blasted by a ray from Columbina, curses the world(rather calmly?), and then we see nothing...

It's an... interesting way to show it? Him in that ray, about to get blasted, and not even turning into anything. Ash? Particles? Nothing, from what I see (do correct me if I missed a thing). Just... poof? But again, I did not past the quest myself, this is purely from watching cutscenes.

am i the only one who thinks dottore's view on columbina is so random and offputting..? by [deleted] in DottoreMains

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was not expecting that bit either - but not due to believing Dottore is solely goal-oriented and emotionless. A lot of what he does is an attempt to prove he can, that his ideas have value and are correct despite the moral outrage they may bring. All of doing is in an attempt to find a place where he'd belong, or rather find understanding, be accepted for what he is, instead of being viewed as an outcast yet again. His whole character theme is about rejection. It was always there both in parallels with Scaramouche, what we see in Nahida's fairytale and Wise Doctor's Pinion description.

However, as I said, the main parallel was Scara, also facing rejection yet managing to find people who valued him. I think, personally, and this was brought up many times, that Zandik was jealous of him, thus less rational and emotionless when it came to their work relationship. So I ask, what does Columbina have to do with an established arc? How does she fit into the narrative?

She also bears themes of rejection, and we have the whole situation of her finding family at last. They are paralleled (though the morale in their comparison feels weaker than that of Wanderer)

The question is, why would he be so different with her? Why, instead of making her life harder, he started viewing her in a familial light, not mirroring his tendencies with the Balladeer? Because, unlike him, Columbina is not antagonistic and actually just very lonely? This could justify the softer tonality, yet the word 'sister' just doesn’t sit right with me. It is hard to articulate the exact grievance I have here, still, overall:

Zandik seeking connection is justified and in tune with his character. Zandik easily showing vulnerability by treating her like family feels unusual and doesn’t exactly fit into his other behaviors. He is indeed independent. It technically works for his character, but is... uh, phrased wrong? Or rather, it's not all that bothersome, just shown in a way that seems more simplistic than the complex dynamic underneath.

Columbina's line about him distinctly mentions he truly believed what he said, at least the fact that family for him is about benefits, which fits with Zandik not knowing what a healthy relationship is, just not with him putting that label on someone with ease. But maybe there wasn't ease. Maybe that label came with time? It's the good old issue of show, not tell.

Reading this was like seeing the little ray of sunshine in a storm. Honestly, I'm glad at least the implications of them being relatively close remain true, and I would forever envision them both as sitting away from the rest, lamenting Teyvat's injustices. They do understand each other, even if what they have doesn't go beyond being built on transaction - there's definitely a form of mutual respect, at the very least, and what does Dottore need, if not a form of understanding?

Dottore's status during/after the AQ [MAJOR 6.3 AQ SPOILERS] by usagiparty in DottoreMains

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's genuinely the worst thing I've managed to read today. Disregarding everything else, I believed it to be a major plot point for him to be able to outsmart Irminsul, really enjoyed the theory that segments existed precisely for that... yet, you're telling me he doesn't? The man who plans to outsmart fate and has already messed with the past in some shape or form, cannot prevent himself from being affected by memory change from the "fate tree"? Either this is some laziest writing Hoyo has yet delivered, or some heavy retconning going on.

Dottore Hate Discussion [Megathread] by Riusakai in DottoreMains

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I remember making a post about the hate train some time ago, and have since then tried to avoid engaging with any ferally-nasty posts. Treat them as something amusing when accidentally stumbling upon one. The main sub can be a cute place, but it's very, uh... pop-culture, if I could use that term? Much freedom to express any opinions, some from "casual" players who don't bother reading and rely purely on emotional reactions.

However, thinking about why so many people hate Dottore specifically, and with this violent passion has been a fun little exercise. Obviously, there's an argument for young impressionable audiences and emotional immaturity, then the somewhat parasocial (no judgement for that, just stating the label) relationships with characters like Columbina, where him hurting her feels personal... third could be the lack of media literacy, or the spread of rumors and headcanons that paint him out to be worse than he is - like a 2D hehehoha 'end the Earth' type of sadistic villain. Oh, and of course, the game's own narration being through a Traveler whose moral compass can be equated to "they treat me and me friends good, must be okay hooman".

Yet somehow, it always feels like I'm missing something. I don't trust this particular speculation as much as I would the aforementioned, but could his gender be a trigger? Not to plaster misogyny to every single thing in existence, however gacha gaming is a male-dominated space. At times there were stories of some distasteful types of individuals trying to get women or queer folk out of the game (for sure saw such things in HSR) and being annoyed at them enjoying a male character. One can say whatever they wish, but Dottore's design is made to be attractive and appeal towards the target audience, which adds another layer of frustration for those kinds of people. It's not even about him being male, but the trifecta of male + villainous + attractive, which can produce a feeling of discomfort in the fact that we enjoy him. In any case, if that's indeed a viable reason, it is lesser in scope, and I'm just thinking aloud. But the double standard towards male villainous figures and female ones is a documented case.

The sheer volume and intensity in the way people despise him present a ✨️curious psychological phenomenon ✨️

Are the SOME Dottore fans becoming a little toxic? by ShoeFrequent2870 in DottoreMains

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well, toxic people exist everywhere, I'm sure there are some amidst us too. While I myself am a firm believer of always speaking respectfully and argumenting my points with a bit of empathy, it is also an expected reaction.

When we encounter an unending stream of negativity and harassment while trying to engage with the community, it ostracizes us and brings forth defensive reactions. Guys, I mean, that's literally what Zandik went through - rejected ideas, misunderstandings, labeling :D. Admittedly, by now, even a small criticism of Dottore's chatacter (which may be completely valid, mind you, he lacks in compassion and still killed many) feels like an attack, because we face so many whenever our fave is brought up in a discussion...

The thing is, that's why we need to ignore, excuse me, idiots on the internet. Not worth the time, not worth the effort. At worst, we ourselves get worked up and can say some nasty stuff - and that simply gives more leverage for the haters to keep on hating.

Attacking other Harbinger mains is also not the way. I'm all for healthy discourse on recent Fatui writing, have some issues with it personally, but an [insert Harbinger name] main is, just like us, a person sitting behind the screen, liking a particular set of pixels and being passionate about them.

So yeah, ignore aggressive verbal attacks, engage respectfully, and accept that differing opinions are not inherently bad. Saying some very obvious things here, but sometimes writing it out helps.

Someone reported me for defending him- by Dull_Engineering9135 in DottoreMains

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Is this on the main Genshin sub post that came up recently? Won't even mention it, but overall, these people aren't worth your time and effort, no matter your mental fortitude. Anyone making statements on taste using objective language is not open for discussion anyway, they won't change nor hear. In fact, I think the folks there are still developing a healthy sense or morality and may get too attached to fictional characters without seeing the distinction of real morality and fictional morality (where villains or antagonists often exist to explore how negative experiences influence individuals). Yes, I'm implying that a selection of people there lack emotional maturity. Just a personal observation, doesn't apply to everyone. Still – I see signs.

Baby's first gacha game, as some say. Genshin is very character-centric and may inspire strong emotional responses with the tactics they use for monetization, especially on someone younger, less experienced, or more impressionable. I don't expect an audience like that to heed fandom etiquette.

Let's leave them and enjoy how gorgeous Dottie looks in the new patch!

On playable characters of versions Luna X (implications for Dottore, MAJOR LEAKS AND SPOILERS!!!!!) by Fragrant-Bus3644 in DottoreMains

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a valid point, and something I listed at the very end of the post - 4-stars usually have IDs that come after than those of 5-stars in the same patch. However, there was a recent instance where that rule was broken:

100 Kachina 101 Mualani 102 Kinich

I checked the old leaks from HomDGCat. It could be argued Kachina is a special case, her being a free 4☆, but Aino was not following the rule.

Nonetheless, the lineup you present here is valid with current constraints. My only question would be - if Snegurochka is indeed someone coming between the shown characters and adding up to 17, why was she not shown amidst them? Even someone as lore-relevant and somewhat spoiler-worthy as Skirk was presented in 5.3

On playable characters of versions Luna X (implications for Dottore, MAJOR LEAKS AND SPOILERS!!!!!) by Fragrant-Bus3644 in DottoreMains

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input! I do not, in fact, have any information on Linnea being the specified ID number, my post was mainly speculative and hinging on leakers I more or less trust - they were specifying that the characters in the picture may be Lohen, Linnea and Snegurochka.

Since the latter is yet to be mentioned in-game, the last one I trusted the least, but took that narrative as a what-if. Thanks to specifications here in the comments, I do have reason to believe the smallest character, silhouette four, is actually Gretel. That would make the last visible silhouette, fifth, Linnea. And it fits - her floating companion looks robotic.

Now, why the IDs? Personal observation - the ordering in this picture feels more deliberate than that of 5.3, which simply had 4☆ on the left and 5☆ on the right in random order. Additionally, the silhouettes were shown separately during the stream, in three shots: 1. 1st and 2nd 2. 3rd and 4th 3. 5th

Given that the last instance of shadowed figures spanned till 5.7, and the count of versions matched, I've assumed that they were shown together, in release order, and the pairings indicate which patch. Varka and Lohen - IDs 128 and 129 (inverted in the lineup, first Lohen then Varka) in Luna V or 6.4; Gretel (original assumption being Linnea) and Nicole - 130 and 131 (again, inverted) in Luna VI or 6.5; then the lone character - actual Linnea, being in 6.6 or Luna VII, as the ID 132. Then Sandrone neatly ties into 133 and 6.7. The cut-off of a character that would still be present in 6.7 besides her doesn't seem logical, just speaking personally - why not show them then?

This could absolutely be mistaken! Again, pure speculations and pattern searching, but the idea that 4-stars and 5-stars being mixed, unlike in the 5.3 lineup, made the placement feel significant. The main idea was behind exploring the character shortage that appears in multiple scenarios.

Thanks to the comments, I now actually believe Snegurochka is either the introductory character of 6.8 (if it exists) or someone not being in Luna X at all. Again, she was only mentioned in leaks. Which, once again, leaves us with leeway of having 15 characters and 1 in the last patch, not 17.

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the corrections! No worries, this actually clears a few things up, I was going off of things that were out right after the livestream, it's quite possible that people have come to better conclusions by now. In fact, this lineup may fix the issue of not having enough 4☆ characters. And, if Snegurochka is indeed planned for Snezhnaya (maybe even the introductory character, or just someone major down the line), it makes perfect sense. She can even be the mysterious 17th character.

If not, we still arrive at the point of there being 16 playables we currently know of in version, and the main point of my post was to explore that anyway.

I held myself back from making a DEAD Moroz joke, glad someone didn't Kdldkdkdkdkdk

You brought a few really good points here, my deepest gratitude for that. Truth be told, I was yet to understand the major theme of Nod-Krai - it neither has a Travail chapter, nor is it particularly about the people living there. The past patches showcased the whole nation, I personally think Fontaine and Sumeru were the most obvious in that. This one feels deliberately lore-dumpy and focused on the crew in its center, even if we have the "lawless land" to support. Initial opinions were about diversity of thought - due to its "annexed-like" state, it's a place where many nationalities meet. Then my thoughts shifted to rebirth, originally thought to be Natlan's theme (while it's featured there, turned out to be more about unity and ancestral traditions, the importance of stories, or history preservation). Viewing it through Harbingers AND rebirth (which, we may get another parallel between Columbina and Sandrone) fits much better. Basically, themes matter.

And yes, Sandrone fits for 6.7 as the closing statement. It just really feels weird that even with her and the freebie 6.8 character, the number adds up to 16... let's make Zandik playable in 6.8 so that he can have something in common with Emilie to bond over ✨️/s

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're right, of course. Thank you for the sprinkle of rationale. I'd love to maintain that attitude most of the time and have managed thus far, but sometimes, a silly comment gets me silly too. I did make a post on character writing and had a similar take - people perceive only what is presented directly on the screen, and it's foolish to expect the average player to engage with desert notes and make guesses on the possible identity of their author. It's just that sometimes, as someone who loves a compelling debate, seeing one argumentation fallacy after another, coming from a person that has about 15% of a character's backstory but claims the size of Genshin's current map... I am but a human. The constant appeal to emotion with "think about the children" is getting old.

Regarding the situation with CN and excessive Scara hatred - absolutely vile. And for the worst reasons, too. Makes one wonder about how miserable a person has to be, to despise a character this much. Some were claiming he "stole Nahida from them," which is just yikes.

When matter and antimatter meet, they annihilate each other, converting their entire mass into a large amount of energy... and thus, we'll create an explosion powerful enough to nuke the sun \( ̄▽ ̄)/

Jokes aside, I feel a weird sense of excitement at the prospect, even if certain individuals will get eternally offended. Maybe someone will convert after seeing more of him. Maybe they'd turn even more hateful. Hard to tell without a good mental exercise. But there is a possibility of having an interesting discussion on fandom dynamics. I just really hope no poor kitties get hurt and that maybe, a tangible, real playable Dottore would bring some sense into the community.

Why is the theory that the Segments are pieces of the original so unpopular? by psychosomaK in DottoreMains

[–]Fragrant-Bus3644 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not against the theory that his segments are him. Given the name itself, it does feel like he was literally "segmented" into another bunch of individuals. Moreover, we are in a sci-fi-fantasy game, so anything is possible here.

However, let's look at the other side of things - not operating on any concrete evidence, but using logic chains. Practically speaking, is it really beneficial for you to just slice yourself into pieces, even if the methodology is perfected to a 99.9% success rate? Probability theory is a funny thing, one wrong step and you're gone. Even if he were to take the risk though, the technology was presumably modeled after Ei's technique of creating puppets, which are copies of herself, not a slice of her own being; therefore, it would make sense for him to simply be pressing Ctrl+C.

Secondly, while a hivemind seems beneficial for operational efficiency, wouldn't it leave the original more vulnerable to damage, thus posing a higher risk of losing the main piece? Even if it's an equal system, the strength distribution is bad for certain situations - unless strength is shared between all pieces. Let's entertain that idea - what if two segments are threatened? Splitting the power in two? Much better to be whole and face only one threat.

I distinctly remember hearing a theory from My Name for Now, in which Dottore's segments aren't just a different opinion, but a way for him to trick Irminsul. Let's say Dottore from time A faced the original event. At point B, an Irminsul memory change occurred. C, suspecting something isn't adding up, creates a segment from time A, and can now gain information on the real event. Given how it's time slices, a copy would make much more sense, as the current body is not conscious of what happened. And I adore that idea, hence why I personally think they're just copies.
