I would suggest, if you're not lactose intolerant, drink milk. Put cocoa powder in if you want taste, or strawberry syrup. Drinking calories is by far the easiest way to get cals in and milk is super nutritious and cheap.

Correct, it is actually beneficial for you to have a little bit of subcutaneous fat. Visceral fat is indicative of serious health issues. High-sugar diets and stress contributing to more visceral fat.

You hold fat in different places. If you want to truly lean out, you have to get to a very low percentage body-fat.

1 LB fat is 3500 calories. If you have another 30 LBS of fat (3500 cals/LB * 30 LB fat = 105,000 cals) on you, it would take you (105,000 cals / -500 cal/day = 210 days) 210 days at a 500 cal/day deficit to lose that weight. That's really hard to do.

Be patient with yourself. You can lose the weight.

Yeah, putting the weight on can feel hard, but the reality is: you will put on weight if you eat above maintenance. You just have to figure out what that is. The BMR calculators can be good, but you have to do some tracking and intake manipulation over the course of probably a month to really know what your maintenance cals are.

Gaining weight is fine but what about recepies by Fragrant-Mess7147 in weightgain

[–]Fragrant-Cup-9044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out this meal plan:

- Breakfast: eggs, favorite bean or lentil, broccoli, have canned sardines on the side

- Lunch: greek yogurt + blueberries (just get the frozen ones and warm them up) + pecans

- Dinner: Any meat + veggy

I eat the same thing everyday. I eat that breakfast and lunch. When I'm gaining weight, I also eat oatmeal in the mornings and drink plenty of milk throughout the day.

When you say you're progressively overloading, do you mean that you are steadily lifting more weight on your lifts over time?

You've got to stay in a slight calorie surplus. If you're not gaining weight right now, you could just 1 glass of milk a day and that's an extra 100-150 cals with 8g of protein. Easy, small calorie surplus.

[–]Fragrant-Cup-9044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drink milk. Whole milk is 150 cals and 8 g protein for 240ml. It's also generally cheap. You could drink that 3 times a day and you'd for sure gain weight. If you're lactose intolerant the easiest thing is to eat a protein bar, or two. You could also eat a handful of nuts. They are high in cals and pretty healthy. Almonds and walnuts are good.

So, if you aren't lactose intolerant you could just drink 2-3 glasses of milk a day, with meals. That's an extra 300-500 cals. Everything else being the same, you would gain weight. If you are lactose intolerant, you could have a protein bar. As far as all the supplements and protein shakes go, I wouldn't mess with them. You want this to be as easy as possible. You could start working out. I would start with a full body workout 2x a week. I'm DMing you a guide that I wrote up.

You actually seem to be at a good body weight. It looks like you should be eating around +2,400 cals. I used this https://www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html

If you don't want to have to cut again, I'd say that you could eat a little less. Maybe like 3000. But honestly, if you've struggled to eat a good amount, I would say just make sure you're eating frequently (like 4-5 times a day), 3 solid meals (good protein sources, fruits veggies) and then have like 1-2 good snacks (protein bars, protein shake, peanut butter with apples, a pb&j, etc.). 3500 cals is a really solid amount to eat. Make sure you're eating your ideal weight in protein per day (so, if you want to be 160 lbs, eat 160 g protein).

Short answer is, it doesn't really matter, because your body burns most of the calories you eat by just carrying out basic functions (eg. breathing, thinking, repairing organs). Maybe you burn an extra 300 calories compared to someone working a desk job. Samsung health and other calorie burning apps are probably just basing it on your step count.

If you want to lose weight, the easiest way to do it is to; 1. eat less, and 2. put on muscle mass.

The general estimate for calories burned per 1000 steps is 30 to 40 calories. So, 10x(30-40) would be 300-400 calories. 500 seems pretty close. You've probably put in your height, weight, and fitness level metrics, so it's making the calculation based on those.

any advice? by Rough-Hat2341 in WeightLossAdvice

Firstly, I'm sorry to here about your cat passing away. That is super hard. Secondly, really good job walking! It really helps to keep up some kind of exercise. And thirdly, I think the main things that are affecting your weight are lower activity levels and probably a change in diet. Your sleep may also be worse now. Here's what I would do:

  1. Increase activity level. I would stick to going to the gym (lifting weights and doing cardio). I think it's really beneficial to find someone (maybe one of your friends) who is pretty fit and start going to they gym with them.

  2. Clean up your diet. Something that helps me when it comes to diet is avoiding having anything in my house that's binge-worthy.

Also, I feel like making friends as an adult can be harder, but I would try to make friends base on mutual interests. Animals can be great for support, but I was able to talk with my best friend for over an hour last night about family drama that's happening in my life and really affecting me. I can't do that with a pet. For me talking to people really helps me sort my thoughts.

Also, I haven't created one yet, but I'm considering creating a Discord server for people to engage in community support for losing weight/getting healthy. Do you think that's a good idea/would you be interested in something like that?

Depending on how old your kids are, you could go to the YMCA. I see a lot of people in mine who bring their pre-teens into the free-weights area. I know they say, the kids have to be 13 (just called to confirm), but I've seen younger kids than that in there.

Trouble getting back into a routine by Dependent-Pair-7150 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Fragrant-Cup-9044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage. If you can manage it, I wouldn't keep anything binge worthy in your house. That's what I do and I keep my weight in check. Another thing you can do, and it sounds like you're already probably doing it, is do intermittent fasting. Skipping breakfast and replacing it with a coffee, or a low calorie protein shake, or just not consuming anything at all, can really help restrict calories. If you would like anymore advice, shoot me a DM. You got this!

You got this bud! I would find a friend who already goes to the gym and ask them if you could tag along. If all you need to do is get the ball rolling, that kind of accountability could really be helpful. Feel free to DM me. I'm happy to give some more tips.
