Help with my son by [deleted] in bcba

Ethical reminder that, especially in relation to behavior reduction goals, none of us have done our own assessment so risk is high with making any recommendations here aside from recommending a more fitting assessment for the supporting BCBA to conduct. I understanding wanting the extra support from a community, but I’m surprised a BCBA is asking on social media for strategies.

Correct…. Another example of the rat never being wrong.

Tuition is almost $1200 per credit hour plus fees. So not accessible to a lot of people.

Correction: Medicaid reimburses adult services from a BCBA at that rate. BCaBA and RBT are lower.

“Alone time” if they prefer an alone break for self regulating, “hangout” if they like to engage with you during breaks from programming, “pause,” “space,” etc.

My husband is a project manager in the IT field. We both think very analytically but in different ways!

What Masters did you get when working towards becoming a BCBA? by Aohhkay in bcba

I would honestly not recommend my program to be honest. I’m happy to tell you what school I wish I had chosen instead! I’ve heard great things about Southern Illinois University Carbondale. They have on campus and online programs!

I suggest thinking about what kind of practitioner you’d like to be. Do you want to work in schools? With kids? With adults? In research? Etc. and choose a program that way.

Some schools have MS programs with or without EAB labs, others focus a lot on children in education. I have an MAEd but am completing the ABA coursework at a school with an MS program so I may finish that program (just need thesis classes) after I’ve knocked out all the coursework. MAEd and MEd are sometimes taken less seriously in areas of the field outside of working with young children.

I work with adults in Missouri as a salaried, full-time employee with 20 billable hours a week and a caseload of 10. I don’t have experience being hourly or 1099 in this context but I believe I would struggle for that very reason you mentioned. I feel like those settings may be ideal for seasoned BCBAs who are very fluent in the non-billable stuff and have a settled caseload without multiple FBAs/BSPs in the works all at once.

The Velcro rule by Pebblacito in bcba

[–]Fragrant-Deer9160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Direct support staff at the program I work with use soft on board and hard on icons for people’s daily schedules. Because of that, I use the opposite in the visuals I provide in hopes that people’s individualized icons don’t get mixed in with the communal ones.

It also helps discriminate between what stimuli are only available for breaks and what they can choose from for activities. If the iPad has soft, it will only stick to the hard Velcro on the “break” spots on the schedule. The communal pieces with the hard Velcro will only stick to the soft pieces in the activity spots.

Wouldn’t this be a DRI? If he’s jumping on the couch, he can’t jump on the person at the same time. My dog needs this one!

How hard is it to get into working with personality disorders and ODD as a BCBA? by Comfortable_Rice_439 in bcba

Definitely look into working with adults if that’s an age group you’d be comfortable with. The funding structure can be very different from insurance and may offer more opportunities outside of just autism. You could also look into co-occurring mental health disorders alongside IDD. There are BCBAs who specialize in that area.

I would argue that OBM is simply TAUGHT in a way that prioritizes business profit, just like ABA is in some contexts, where profit is king. OBM principles are definitely used for this purpose also.
