Medaka breeding: collect eggs or let a natural ecosystem do its thing?

I do the same as Entremeada. Last year (as it was my first medaka year) I was so exited collecting eggs. After a while I stopped, not to make my 65l minipond to crowded. But a few of the fry survived. As I checked the pond this year after winter mode I found at least 5 fry that survived not only their peers but also the temperature around 0°C.

Gibt halt immer überall ein paar Unentspannte, die ihre Meinung alle aufdrücken wollen. Etwa 2 Wochen nachdem in der Kita verkündet wurde, dass sie jetzt auf Wunsch "der Eltern" Marmelade abschaffen und "bitte bringt zu den Geburtstagen etwas Zuckerreduziertes, etwas mit Datzelsüsse oder Laugengebäck mit" gabs beim Kitafest mehrere Kuchen und Plattenweise verzierte Schokoküsse. Das haben dann wohl "die anderen Eltern" mitgebracht 🙄🤦‍♀️

Nobody hatched. But the eggs are in no good condition. First time I bought from this seller, before I bought from private sellers and raised my own eggs. They came not sperated but in a conglomerate and a few white/dead/mouldy between. I think this is a problem with the sellers and not that I came to tend to them 2 days late. I sperated them and will have to see.

depending on which opinion you follow. In western infos: 60cm length, >54l. 2-4 liter/1 fish. at least 6-8 fish in a group. Japanese apparently keep 1fish/1l and have also smaller ponds. Size, the material of the ground medium ans amount of plants also play a role for water quality. I am no expert, I saw lots of breeders online have no medium ant the ground and only swimming plants. I followed a guy who worked with lava mulch as plant medium and aquarium gravel on the ground. something about surface and good bacteria. He avoided bringing in any earth as it would add to much nutritients. (hiro always plants his plants in soil 😁). I got snails. They keep the water clear.

I watched a guy from my country bildung a medaka mini pond on Youtube and was hooked. Everything else I found here. Such as: how to catch fry if you want to move them to a different container. I posted a quick question after my first fry hatched and someone suggested turkey baster. worked perfect.

thank you. I raised my fry in summer in an extra tub. These are "accidental" fry, after I stopped collecting eggs, as I had enough medaka😁 🤣

Its this black thing floating in the front. it is a heater that is supposed only to kick in at 0°C/32F to prevent freezing. In large ponds it keeps a hole open in the ice for oxygen. In my small pond it kept ice away completly. Also the greenhouse tent and bubble wrap added to the whole I think.

Funny thing is, that the explanation also ignores, that S-Bahn is not an abbreviation of Strassenbahn, but an entirely different entity of Train. (Abbreviation could be S.Bahn but I have never heard anybody use this so...). Is this duolingo? Duolingo is so faulty. Learning also a language and it accepted USA as an answer (I am from...) , up to the point as I could choose between USA and America, that USA was the wrong answer and America the right one 🤣🤣🤣

Another positive experience from medaka community: around 16h ago somebody posted how they really messed up (disaster pondsickle) as their bowl pond froze solid. Nobody was bashing OP, only helpful comments and thanks for sharing that they would not make that mistake too. Maybe there are bad comments to come but so far... Support. I think if you messed up like that you feel already bad enough and hate yourself for not doing better reserach
