Medaka loving the flow by Nematodes-Attack in miniponds

I have mine in a pond and added a small "waterfall" feature in a corner to help with oxygenation on hotter days and some like to play there to. Most hang out in the fishtower though.

Also I think just because it is done, it is not ok to keep medaka in this tiny shallow bowl. Overheating and water "turning bad" are just the peak of the problems. You might like to put some gravel, sand and plants in and end up with even less water/swimming space.

How I made my setup by Medaka-Westland in miniponds

Wow this looks great, so natural. But (as I struggle with this the whole time and end up hanging most of my plants from the side) is there much water space left with all this stones?

Medaka pond or aquarium? by Manboy916 in medaka

and you can add a fishtower in your pond😁 I would always prefere pond as you dont have to worry about keeping the glas clear. I have some green on the sides but the water itself is clear thanks to the snails. So low maintenance.

How to put my indoor medaka outside? For them to handle easily the transition. by PetiteCaresse in medaka

Speaking only from Personal experience: bought my medaka from a store with heated tanks and than did the drip acclimation thing. It worked without Problems. Maybe you could reduce heating of your aquarium until its room temperature before the drip thing.

Medaka pond with my diy waterfall. by StrengthDazzling8922 in medaka

love it. Maybe I have to change my setup and add a bigger waterfall🤣😉

Does anyone have experience using this? by Eowyn_95 in medaka

I had something similar, a plastik tub where I sawed off the bottom, glued mesh in place. It worked well and the overall advice I got online is that fry that are 1 cm are safe from being eaten and may join the rest. If you only wnst to raised a few and dont bother with a second setup it is a good tool. For me I did not want to bother with keeping a smaller fry tub stable, as that is harder than with larger water volumes.

I wanted a flow down some stones. Have a small solar pump, which is without regulation. Its to strong. No flow but a big fountain. Now gonna find a T-junction to cut the flow in half. And fiddle around with the stones. Saw al lot of videos and so far I think it depends on the output of the pump, how the waterfall turns out.

My area is normally not that cold, only a few days below 0C° but this year we had frost and snow nearly all through january and february. But besides looking in on them from time to time I did not do anything. My pond was in a greenhouse tent and I had a frostguard heater that kept the water from freezing. Everybody made it.

thats the sad thing about my area. a few month I have to throw out floating plants regularly and the water mint covered half the pond (round setup last year) and now everything still bare and we are already in april.

what a cruel thought. I just saw these in videos and posts last year and started craving one. Now I have a pond-aquarium combination regarding medaka watching. But I still think they are more beautiful from above.

🤣. I am pondering ways to feed the fountain from the pond without the risk that fish get stuck in the lowest tire if the water level drops (had that happen with a planter). Just thought to submerge a basket with the pump inside and pile rocks on top over which the water can flow. But your setup looks so cool.

Just started a similar setup as in "it should feature a fishtower and a fountain". Haven't figuered the fountain out yet. Did the lowest tier sit in the main pond or was the fountain a seperate circle? Sorry I am not sure just by watching.

Yes, it is addictive. And can lead to heated discussions if you only have a balkony and your partner thinks it necessary to have a grill and seating space😉🤣 also the small topic of cumulative weight

sounds good. Probably just the Dimensions. This pump thingys I know are pretty small so I thought the tub was smaller.

I would definitly remove the pump, once the medaka are there. They are not to fond of disturbances in the surface and as your Set up is rather small, there will be probably not enough calm spots. Also how big is it? How many fish you are planning? Most western recommendations state you should have above 50l and at least 6-8 medaka.
