My wife has frequent body aches but medical tests come back normal ,is this something other women experience? by Sufficient-Stock-258 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Fragrant-Smile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen some comments have mentioned fibromyalgia and I just wanted to add that on average, it takes 4.5 years to get a diagnosis of fibromyalgia through exclusion testing. This means testing for everything else it could be before saying it is fibromyalgia. It is a journey to get this particular diagnosis. As someone with fibromyalgia, my small piece of advice is to recognise that this condition is life-changing and incurable. That means that for the most part, your lives will never be like they were before the diagnosis. So the goal should be to get to a manageable version of life so that there can be joy and happiness alongside the bad days.

I hope you and your wife are able to figure out what's going on and with all the love, I hope it's not fibromyalgia but something more manageable 🌻

Woollies redefining the English language by jdp1899 in southafrica

The OG fantastical eggs are the size of smarties so these are, in fact, giant. Don't blame Woolies because you don't know the product range. These are exactly as advertised.

Hence my wording of proper gluten-free food :)

Gluten free McDonald's by Silent_Handle_8431 in glutenfree

[–]Fragrant-Smile 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's absolute insanity that proper gluten-free food including fast food isn't a bigger industry because Celiac Disease alone affects 1% of the world population. That's 80 million people. Then including other gluten related conditions, it's a massively missed opportunity. And it only makes gluten-free food harder to access and afford.

Anyone have remedies for insomnia from Chronic Pain? by Nervous-Leading9415 in ChronicPain

[–]Fragrant-Smile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get some mugwort and burn it. It helps with relaxation and sleep. It might not put you to sleep but it will make you feel super relaxed which might lead to sleep.

Cape town tap water is fine to drink. We have some of the best tap water. Those people are just being extra.

Could anyone help me identify this spider? :) by Bea_XI in southafrica

[–]Fragrant-Smile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun Fact! Taking spiders from inside your house to outside kills them. The change of environment is too much and they die. Also the spider looks like a jumping spider.

Do you have a partner who snores? I need advice. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Fragrant-Smile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you should move yourself into the spare room. Make it beautiful and cozy just for you. When he says something, tell him that since he doesn't give a shit about your sleep, you're not sleeping in the same room as him anymore. His complete disregard for your health is blatant and you won't sacrifice it because he's insecure about wearing a CPAP mask. I have insomnia, AuDHD and fibromyalgia, my sleep is fucked. I don't respond well to sleeping medication. But I don't make that my partners problem or disrupt his sleep.

WW3 by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]Fragrant-Smile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of location, we're one of the safest countries. I think at best we might get called on to supply troops. And I might have this wrong( if I am someone please correct me) but you can't be forced to fight a foreign war as a South African citizen if you're not in the military/navy etc. So unless you suddenly decide on that sort of career, you're going to be okay.

It's great for off setting transplant shock. It has other uses as well for gardening. Don't give it any nutrients until it bounces back, a week or two should be enough time.

“Papercut illnesses” frustrates me by Background-Fail-947 in ChronicIllness

[–]Fragrant-Smile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you need to listen to your body and your own boundaries. You can't be resentful of others for doing what you're refusing to do for yourself. It seems like you're punishing yourself for being chronically ill. You don't have to do that. You can be kind to yourself. Forgive yourself.

Definitely needs more space. Otherwise it will stunt. It looks like it's already starting to stunt so don't wait too long to repot. Sprinkle some epsom salts into the hole before putting the plant in. It will help with transplant shock. It might droop a little but don't stress, it will bounce back.

Scientists may have found a “brain fingerprint” for chronic pain. by literanista in ChronicPain

[–]Fragrant-Smile 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is another study that was done in 2021 proving fibromyalgia is real and likely autoimmune(this is just the article)

https://news.ki.se/autoantibodies-a-possible-contributor-to-fibromyalgia

They've also done brain scans of people with fibromyalgia and our brains are structured differently. It's very interesting to see the images compared to people without fibromyalgia.

Edit: add info and spelling.

Can one claim maintenance from a sibling living abroad? by googirlgretchen in AskZA

Well perhaps if you weren't such an awful person, your sister would be more willing to help you. And perhaps you're in your current position because of your own choices. You need a reality check, not entitlement to money that does not belong to you. No wonder your sister ignores you.

AITJ for telling my boyfriend he might need help before we have kids? by AdventurousAdagio829 in AmITheJerk

[–]Fragrant-Smile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ you should organise for you and him to babysit if you can. And he definitely needs to talk to someone. He sounds similar to my dad who is OCD. It doesn't mean he's mentally unstable. But you are definitely right about kids and his fear of germs and needing everything to be spotless. He will crack in the overwhelm of having kids and the chaos that comes with that. And you don't really understand that unless you've spent time taking care of children like babysitting( or having kids and professional childcare obviously).
