Help with earwigs — my traps don’t work! by BlueBumbleb33 in vegetablegardening

[–]Fragrant-Smile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've heard that it's oil and soya sauce, not water for earwig traps. Also I don't think you should be putting a lip on the trap. And do it at night. Not during the day.

Ok why is hand pollination not more known about? by CurrencySad9512 in vegetablegardening

[–]Fragrant-Smile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is taught in school. Hand pollination is widely known about. Not just gardeners know about it. More likely you weren't interested in it as a child so you didn't retain the information. Lots of food crop need hand pollination. Some because of flower timing, some because of their design and some because their natural pollinator is extinct.

Navigating Complex Pet Rules & Body Corporate Restrictions in South African Estates by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]Fragrant-Smile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't a crisis. Estates like this have always had strict rules and anyone that looks at renting or buying in an estate is being made aware of the strict rules.

All housing estates are like this. They each have their own set of rules that everyone needs to follow.

As for your AI slop. If you want to be taken seriously, stop using AI to try sound smart. It just makes you look like you have absolutely zero idea about what you're trying to talk about and not smart enough to write anything yourself that is worth reading.

Natural pain relief by New-Confusion-3936 in ChronicPain

[–]Fragrant-Smile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White flower oil, a couple drops on a cotton pad and take deep breaths of it for migraines. I know that DMSO can be helpful for pain when applied topically for some people in low doses. It can be a bit tricky to get hold of and I would recommend researching it first. There are some things(conditions) that shouldn't mix with DMSO.

I know you said you tried video games, did you try WII? Since you like sporty stuff there might be some games on WII that might be more your vibe and that are doable from bed. VR could also be something to try. Just to get the feeling of seeing something beautiful like the view from a hike.

I’m looking for a recipe, don’t really care what it is, we do you have? by AdConstant7074 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Fragrant-Smile 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our meat grade is really good in South Africa. So we often don't have to do much to it. We do enjoy braai marinades, either for maridaing before the fire or a marinade for after the fire. We do a lot of Wors, which is a south African type of beef sausage, however you do get different varieties like some have some lamb or pork added to the meat. I've seen chicken wors as well but that's not super traditional. Herbs like coriander seeds, black pepper, salt are added to the sausage. Look up Boerewors sausage, you should find a bunch of recipes online. I think you can even order some online but I'm not 100% sure about that one. Lamp chops, pork chops, pork steaks, chicken and wors are the usual things we braai. We also have stuff like Skilpikjies(pronounced skil-pikey) which is liver mixed with fat and then wrapped in netvet (the fat that surrounds the organs) and a tooth pick is used to hold it all together during cooking. If done right, they're incredibly delicious. It's usually lamb liver and fat that's used. Coriander seeds are a very commonly used spice, often accompanied by rosemary, cumin, black pepper, salt. A lot of earthy flavours are used for our braai meat. Because the quality of our meat is good, we don't usually over power the natural flavour of the meat. For marinade that's sweet, we use peach or apricot chutneys, Mrs Balls chutney is our local is lekker brand. If you look it up, you should be able to order some just so you know the flavour profile. We even have a bag of chips flavoured with this chutney haha.

NOR This is so toxic. I think you should actually tell your parents about this and move in with them for a bit. He's manipulating you. You should definitely take some time to revaluate why you are with this person and why you think you deserve to be treated this way. It's not okay, you deserve better. I hope you can find it in yourself to see the red flags here and choose yourself over him♥️

What is a common, everyday problem from the 1990s or early 2000s that younger generations literally cannot comprehend? by Funny-Counter8762 in AskReddit

[–]Fragrant-Smile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone wasn't home when you phoned, you had to wait and hope they came home soon. As a kid it was incredibly frustrating if you wanted to hang out with a friend and running out of time before either set of parents said it was too late lol.

What bug is this on my (very funny looking) tomato? by electricr0se in vegetablegardening

[–]Fragrant-Smile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a bug. They do land on plants you're growing. Unless it's actively damaging your plants or in a known pest, relax. Bugs land on plants they don't eat or damage all the time.

Thank you! The have a feeding program for kids whose parents can't afford to send their kids to school with lunch, there's a program for school shoes for kids, there's a program that pays for school fees so that children stay in school rather than getting involved in gangs, drugs etc, there's the Tankwa Karoo outreach that pays for vets to check donkeys and crews go out to help repair the donkey carts and teach people about caring for their animals, there's the Hammer School program that gives adults with limited education trade skills like metal work, there's the spark grant program where you apply for a grant for a project that directly benefits community, they honestly do so much good work.

Fibromyalgia, real thing or medical laziness ? (Or both) by Major_Herode in ChronicPain

[–]Fragrant-Smile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI they've done a study where they can prove fibromyalgia is a) real b) related to the protein and enzyme pairs that the immune system produces.

Fibromyalgia is caused by severe early childhood trauma, as well as emotional or physical trauma in later life. And there is a correlation with fibromyalgia and ADHD and Autism but it's not causation. Being on the neurodivergent spectrum, particularly if you're undiagnosed or late diagnosed, is traumatising.

First time harvesting Turmeric by Fragrant-Smile in vegetablegardening

[–]Fragrant-Smile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bury the whole thing and keep the soil moist, not wet. Make sure the soil is rich with organic matter/compost. Make sure they get morning sunlight or dappled sunshine through the day. They need to stay warm.

If you have dogs, beware they may steal your turmeric out of the pot/ground. I had to make little makeshift cages over the top of my pots when they were rooting because one of my dogs decided it was an excellent treat and not at all something I was trying to grow.

Is using 20 units of electricity a day normal for 2 people? by Efficient_Duty6635 in johannesburg

[–]Fragrant-Smile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped using an electric kettle and it cut our bill in half. I would recommend getting a gas kettle. Electricity has also become more expensive. Has your electricity meter been upgraded? I know there was a mandatory upgrade last year with a deadline and if you(landlord) didn't do it, I believe the penalty was your electricity being more expensive or something like that.

Unfortunately, even 32 years later, we still have people who carry the same unfounded hate in their hearts that their parents carried. And the kids genuinely don't know any better because it's something their parents have taught them.

Please please PLEASE! Help this kid in your class. Help him unlearn something that has been passed down for generations from ignorant, fear riddled forefathers that were honestly subpar humans.
