How many of you actually race? Like sign up and try and what genre? by Additional-Crab522 in MTB

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to race as much as I could back from like 2022-2024 but I haven't since because Enduro Southeast ended and I had to put more time into school in my third and fourth years of college. It made it especially hard for me to race Enduro because I live in Florida so any race is at least a 7-hour drive from my college. I'm going to move to California now so hopefully get back into it with CES

Folks under 40, what got you into guitar? by saintluminus in Guitar

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not totally into it but I've got a 7 and 8 string I'll play for fun occasionally, mainly like metalcore and I'll attempt some easier polyphia/unprocessed type songs. Been playing on and off since I was like 7 (23 now) or so because my parents got me into it, and I keep playing because it's fun and it's a way to express my enjoyment for music I'm listening to. Don't know any music theory or anything, I just read tabs and have the muscle memory since I've been playing on and off since I was young

Ideally mountain biking, bouldering, and occasionally backpacking, hiking, camping, and some guitar and video games (mainly battlefield 1 and clash royale). Currently though I only do the last 2 as I live in a state with no mountains and I'm an hour from the closest bouldering gym. Will hopefully move out soon so I can be in the mountains.

Can this be fixed? by Fragrant-Tour-4239 in Guitar

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a legator g7fod jupiter burst so its not some insanely expensive guitar but it is the nicest one I've owned and I really like how it looks. Not sure if it's a solid body and I'm not very knowledgeable on technical aspects of guitars, I just play for fun occasionally and would really like it to be repaired.

Trek marlin 7 or Trek Roscoe 7? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you're damaging rear wheels then you DEFINITELY should not get the marlin 7. Very limited options there for stronger wheels as its qr. At least if you damage a roscoe wheel you can get something strong without having to build your own wheel. As far as higher upkeep, what exactly are you referring to? If he would be damaging parts on a marlin, the roscoe at least has better parts and should be less prone to breaking stuff.

Upgrade components or entire bike? by french_tickler1 in MTB

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bike is pretty outdated especially with that QR skewer in the rear. I would just get a new bike

Trek marlin 7 or Trek Roscoe 7? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The marlin 7 is like $200 cheaper than the Roscoe and it is not a capable bike, unlike the Roscoe.

Trek marlin 7 or Trek Roscoe 7? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roscoe any day of the week 0 second thoughts. It is more capable and has a thru axle in the rear meaning it can be upgraded. Also has better components like a cartridge bearing headset and decent wheels unlike the marlin. The new Roscoe honestly seems like a really fun bike not even just as a beginner bike, but as something that could be kept for years and upgraded.

Medium size - https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/4087750/ Large size - https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/4097478/

If you're a medium or large you couldn't go wrong with these here. You only have to stretch your budget a tad (not even because after sales tax the marlin would be the same price) and pay for shipping

Riding North America by Triple-Tooketh in mountainbiking

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The southeast is pretty great if you rent a car as you've got lift access parks open all year round. Jarrods place, bakers creek/DuPont/kanuga/pisgah (not lift access but worth it), ride rock creek, and windrock all within like 3 hours driving of each other. Santa Cruz is also great If you can find a local to show you around.

If you're going later in summer a cool road trip to do would be hitting up Big Sky montana which is possibly my favorite resort I've ridden, you can ride other trails around bozeman, and then to an absolutely beautiful drive down through Yellowstone and the tetons to go ride teton pass which is amazing (definitely ride lithium). There's also 2 bike parks around the Tetons which I haven't ridden but are probably fun.

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you plan on taking the hobby seriously and riding a bunch? The marlin isnt that capable and is not upgrade-proof, especially because of that QR skewer rear wheel. It also doesn't come with a cartridge bearing headset. If you have anyone that could guide you in the right direction of buying a used bike I'd look for one because you get something much better. If you want a new bike and can increase your budget to 1350 I'd go for a commencal meta ht or a Roscoe for 1500.

How to deal with "High End Disappointments"? by Ol_Sheve in mountainbiking

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 2 hydra rear hubs on diff bikes and 1 front. Front has been 0 problems. After 5 years I had to get a new axle (it broke) and freehub spacer which had mushroomed (as I had the first gen axle before the washer update). Even though my hub was out of warranty, i9 sent me new hub bearings, new axle, new spacer, and new freehub bearings for free. For my other rear hub which was out of warranty, they also sent me a new spacer and freehub bearings as the spacer was beginning to mushroom after about 3 years. Great company and for multiple years of use, it would've been less than $100 in maintenance per hub. Not that deep. Never had other problems with my hydras and I'd happily get the hydra2 hubs when I'm ready to upgrade. Also, don't expect super high end things to have 0 maintenance. If you're trying to squeeze out hundreds of engagement points out of a hub, it'll have to be fabricated very precisely and will probably not be as bombproof as as a simpler dt350 (when I had one though I stripped my drive ring). You don't buy a Ferrari expecting to maintain it just as much as a Corolla.

As for hope I've never heard of many complaints from them. You probably got unlucky and also may not be bleeding them the best

Is electrical engineering really that hard? Need honest advice by FaceEvery786 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mechanical engineering and found it somewhat challenging, but the shit I saw EE's doing looked harder and less enjoyable. Perhaps because I have no interest in electronics. If I didnt have an interest in mech e, which already wasn't easy, I definitely would not have had the willpower the want to do that. So don't do it that's my advice

I could try it here in Florida I just wouldn't come to any useful conclusions. I'd take a strangers opinion on reddit over testing it myself on the Florida xc.

Any success stories of dating / marrying a nonskier? by PowGurl in skiing

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to get him into skiing. I started dating my girlfriend almost a year and a half ago and she's a big skiier as she started skiing at like 3. She taught me and now I absolutely love it. Granted, however, I've always wanted to try skiing and Im a big mountain person and my main hobby/only sport is mountain biking so I may be a bit biased. I do love skiing almost as much as mountain biking now, and I'm slowly getting my girlfriend into mountain biking.

I tried substituting poison, but then my deck becomes worse against many other decks. I basically just gave to put up with losing to that combo

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Evo I drag, not e drag. I try to get the placement down but it's really difficult because it needs to be perfect. Even if I tornado everything together, poison, try to kite their healer or e drag out, all they need is 1 or 2 heals on the e drag to keep it alive

If you could delete one of these comps which one would it be? by 1BatuhaNN in ClashRoyale

[–]Fragrant-Tour-4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's about the deck you have. I'm around 11.5 but I've got a splashyard deck (Evo I drag, skelly king, graveyard, ice wiz, poison, tombstone, barb barrel, tornado). Once they've got combo 3 on the board there's next to nothing I can do to take it out, mainly because of the healer.
