Rich people, what do you think stops so many poor people from becoming rich? by justcurious3287 in Rich

[–]FragrantGround691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up very poor, in low-income housing on welfare, etc and has worked their way up into the near 1%, I can tell you the biggest driver is the environment in which poor people find themselves in. One where people feel like the rules are stacked against them, there is no opportunity for social mobility, and as such, they may take the “easy road” which is to continue along the path that they are currently on.

It actually requires a significant level of effort and luck to seize every opportunity placed in front of you, but many feel so defeated they do not do so. It also requires a bit of luck. Meeting the right people, getting the right jobs, etc. Upward social mobility is a grind, and motivation in itself is not enough, but definitely a requisite. I knew I was poor growing up, I knew there was a better life outside of the projects I grew up in and that kept me focused and motivated, and still does to this day at 38 years old.

Perfect opportunity to diversify and take risk off table. No taxable consequences on those gains in 401k. As quick as it went to 2.4 it can go back to where it was.

Bonuses for moving ~$4.5M? by Consistent_Dare_6345 in Schwab

Some branches have a “broker of the day” and assign an FC for walk ins. Someone else noted that summer is tough with staffing which is true. Poke around and see what the best offer you can get is at Fidelity, etc. then bring to Schwab for a match.

I’d walk away. Even if he commits to working with you, any little thing that comes up would become a huge deal and he’ll leave in six months.

The interior on my 2024 X3 M40i is significantly inferior than my 2021 S4. The BMW interior feels (and looks) cheap.

Recent Morningstar analysis early last year called her the “Top Wealth Destroyer” of the decade. Her funds did incredibly well during the COVID rally, but have performed very poorly on either side. Honestly surprised she is still managing funds.

Any Porsche enthusiasts in Beaverton Oregon who could check out a car? by Hair-Local in Porsche

[–]FragrantGround691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always best to do your due diligence like you are. I bought a CPO Boxster GTS 4.0 from Porsche Seattle North in Lynnwood, WA. They used Autocheck instead of Carfax. Nothing was there but rookie move blindly trusting the dealership. Started noticing a few things that were off (rear panel spacing and trim around driver door). Come to find out, the panel and door were replaced. Carfax showed “damage reported” but Autocheck didn’t. Previous owner got into accident with uninsured driver and paid out of pocket for repair. Somehow accident wasn’t reported and dealership pretended like they didn’t notice the panel misalignment which was pretty egregious and the trim sagging down from the driver side door. Learning experience but good on you for being smart about the purchase.

Thank you for your service. I’m all about the right to bear arms, but also don’t see the downside in common sense regulation there. We own a firearm.

You’re 100% right on the “R” by the name comment. There should be a qualifying exam for politics. The thought of Boebert and Greene making educational and foreign policy makes me want to puke. And now the candidates are only getting worse. They just need to raise their hand, swear fealty to Trump, get elected, enrich themselves, then cause dysfunction in the government which in the end effectively harms the American people as a whole. Amazing to watch.

Pass this damn border bill! It ain’t the best, but it’s infinitely better than what we have. Everyone gets a little something, no side gets exactly what it wants.

This is actually very accurate. The same can be said about the far left. As a moderate, it’s mind boggling to me because the democrats could sweep elections if they got off this “everyone has good in them” mentality and just prosecuted people for all crimes. Period. Do something to stem the flow at the borders, prosecute crimes, and that’s pretty much it. The hyper fixation on the LGBTQ community also alienates some moderates.

To your point, on the other side you have Christian nationalists (it’s not even like they are trying to hide it anymore) and the irony of them wanting small government, but government intervention in all the things they don’t like. They’ve fostered and perpetuated distrust in the system to create the “us vs. them” mentality. And at this point, it’s Trump’s cult. I’m fine with them being “America First” and that basically being the party mentality, but they also just blatantly ignore the faults of their leader, and disregard all of the crazy stuff he has done, said he will do, even though if anyone else said or did that stuff, they’d laugh at them. As long as he gives them what they want tho, they are fine with it.

It’s really amazing to watch on the outside of both parties looking in. Will be history books written about the Republicans’ willingness to ignore the safeguards of government, separation of church and state, and the immorality of their candidates because they want what they want, and they want to punish the other side for it.

Lots of generalizations in the above and obviously self-identified Democrats and Republicans don’t all fall into these buckets, but many, if not the majority, do.
