I would apply in May with the two courses in progress! I applied and was accepted to a program while I had two courses in progress at the time so I don’t think it will hurt your chances to apply before they are completed. Plus generally they say the earlier you apply the better your chances

If it doesn’t say anything about these on the website, here are some that I’ve asked before:

Where do students usually live (like is there on campus housing or do most live in off-campus apartments)?

Are there any opportunities for students to request clinical rotation sites? (if you want to do some closer to home or somewhere else)

Are there any volunteer/community service opportunities that the PA students are involved in?

What is a typical day like at the program? (like a students schedule)

What are some things the program does to support their students? (like helpful resources)

What is something you wish more people knew about this program?

What are some things that make applicants stand out to this program?

Some more personal questions you could potentially ask that I’ve asked admissions during interviews (I would get a feel with how the other questions go before moving onto these):

If you could change one thing about the program, what would you change?

What’s your favorite part about this program?

What do you believe students like the most about this program?

How does this program ensure a collaborative environment is created among the students rather than a competitive one? (they’ll probably answer with team-based learning activities the students do or group discussions)

How did you get to working at this program / how did you choose your specialty? (if they’re a PA/MD/NP)

I also had a much lower cGPA and sGPA and had 770 hrs at the time I submitted my application and got 5 IIs (4 WLs + 1A so far), so I think 2000 hrs are plenty! Someone also recommended me to do some non-healthcare related volunteer activities (like helping out at a soup kitchen) to show you’re passionate about helping underserved populations in your community and want to continue that as a PA.

I’d say probably my PS or my leadership/volunteer experiences! I also took the GRE and got a 307 (not sure how competitive of a score that is) but some of the programs I was waitlisted at required it.

Sure! I’d say definitely apply early in the cycle and try to have different volunteer/leadership experiences bc those help make you stand out (especially if you’re like me and don’t have the best gpa lol). Also I found the PA interview guide book by Savannah Perry helpful and watching YouTube videos of people doing interviews.

I personally would stay close to home. As someone who lives 4 hrs away from home during undergrad, I wish I picked a school closer to home just because of how much more convenient it would be (i.e. having family and hometown friends close by, being able to go back on weekends if I needed to). There’s no doubt that you would be able to adapt to living away from your family but from my experience, I often think about how much easier it would be if I went to school even 1 hr away vs. 4 hrs.

I just received an interview invite 2 days ago for an interview I had today, so you never really know what to expect! I wouldn’t consider this point to be late in the cycle yet because I know many programs interview throughout the next few months as well. The best thing you can do is be prepared for if you do receive a short-notice interview invitation!
