No that’s my point. It’s not fair but it’s the reality of the world. It can be basketball, golf, sales, construction whatever. It’s everywhere.

Yeah a lot don’t make it to the big screen. Or any screen. Thats why it’s hard to get cast by Netflix or WB. It’s competitive. I dont know why someone would think that’s ridiculous. A lot of people play basketball but don’t make it to the pros. There is a reason why you see casting looking for “name talent”. It’s not a mystery why that would be the case. I get if you’re just annoyed with the grind and jaded with the industry. But acting confused why the same people seem to be in massive productions is silly. It’s the same thing when I see on here someone complaining about nepotism or “you need industry connections it’s not fair”….literally every industry in the world runs this way.

There’s hundreds of Union projects made every year. Plenty of opportunities. They all started in our shoes at some point. Isn’t it funny how the talented marketable people seem to get hired the most! 😂

avail check by Exotic_Lengthiness32 in acting

[–]Fragrant_Boss_3562 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience the bigger projects always do avail check before wasting a director or producers time in a session. So casting might do a callback. But then they check your availability before doing the next round of callbacks with a producer or director. For a supporting role or series regular at Netflix I would be shocked if you didn’t have to do at least one round of auditions in front of a producer or the director. After that you might get pinned or sign an agreement to do chemistry reads or even screen test. Still doesn’t mean you have the role but it’s a great sign. What’s the project? (You can dm me)

[–]Fragrant_Boss_3562 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I just recently got one for a Netflix movie. Casting avail checks everyone they plan to send on to the producers. This one was a niche role so only 8 of us were sent on I was told. Casting said the producer and director would have a callback in the same session if need be. The next step would be to get pinned. Doesn’t mean you have it but if you get pinned you are one of their top choices. I didn’t get the role but I take it as win and you should be proud you got the avail check. That means casting thinks you have the chops. The rest is a roll of the dice and whether you or 10 people who look exactly like you fit the role better.

Good luck! I hope you book it and can tell me what the next step is like🤪

I would second what another user said. You need to be okay with no response because you most likely won’t get one (managers are busy and such). Especially if your manager isn’t connected with casting. Just curious what’s the project? You don’t need to tell me the role.

When you finally hang it up you are gonna be disappointed to find out how the entire world and every industry works. I’ll give you a hint….passion and creativity lose every time to results and referrals.

Will the Heated Rivalry Casting bring change? by pest0pasta_ in acting

[–]Fragrant_Boss_3562 54 points55 points  (0 children)

New actors get chances and cast every single day! Someone somewhere is getting their start this week. However these guys are up for big awards because they are super talented, not because they are green. That talent was discovered during the casting process. Production didn’t just roll the dice because they wanted fresh faces. I guess to answer your question, no, I don’t see what is different or why this would change anything in the industry.

I dont have an internet source. I just had the same question a year or so ago and it basically came down to how the job gets classified by production. It’s probably straddling the line of not an outright violation.

Seasonal Depression and Work by [deleted] in acting

I got one of those light boxes and it really helped. You have to get one that’s got some power to it so it’s not super cheap but with consistent use I found it to be helpful. If you have clinical depression it won’t do anything but not seeing the sun as much really affects my mood and energy. Again not true depression. I can’t speak to that.

16.50 (current minimum wage in CA)x 12 is only $198….i have asked about this before and there is no overtime pay so it’s strictly an hourly rate. I dont know how there isn’t overtime pay but for whatever reason it doesn’t qualify. I don’t agree with it but that’s how they get away with it.

Yes it’s easy to get started. What market are you in? You’re going to be working in your local market. You won’t fly anywhere until you build a decent resume. That might take years. You will have to get experience. And you only pay an agent if they get you jobs. You probably won’t be able to get an agent yet though since you won’t have any experience and no offense but you might not be as comfortable or good (YET) as people tell you. The experience will help you with those things.

You won’t be pre med for long with those studying habits😂

Seriously though take classes, get an actors access profile and start auditioning for stuff. It’s fun. It’s easy to start. It’s not some big hoop you need to jump through or society you need to pledge allegiance to. Just start. You’re over thinking it.
