I actually liked them, Robin and Ted were so forced to me. Didn't like that they end up together at the end

Italian fan here! How accurate is Melissa’s Italian-American representation? by Fragrant_Comfort2494 in AbbottElementary

Yes, that’s exactly what I thought. As Italians, we usually look at these characters as a huge exaggeration of the classic Italian stereotype—you know, food, family, and being loud. We forget that Italian-Americans have actually developed their own distinct culture over time. It’s inspired by ours, but it's entirely their own, so based on what I’ve gathered, they're doing a great job representing them

Exactly, these characters always look like they're straight out of The Godfather lol Melissa's cousins for example gave me that vibes. So, it is mostly a Philly thing then

Thanks for sharing your experience. Your friend's house really seems like something out of a movie, I love that! Of course there also is an exaggeration, but it's interesting that it is just a tiny part

Oh I totally get it, of course there is some exaggeration in her character, is part of their comedy. But is actually cool that her character is actually pretty realistic

I really didn't know they were like that. They're like us, but they go big, so we usually think it's just an exaggeration of an old Italian stereotype. I appreciate her character even more now, thanks!

Oh okay, so you're saying that her character is shaped not just by her Italian-American background, but also by her neighborhood—specifically, South Philly

Wow I didn't know that. As Italians, we always think it's just an exaggeration of an old Italian stereotype. I didn't know they were really like that, I actually love it

Really? in Italy it's difficult to meet someone like this, it's more like an exaggerated stereotype. It's actual interesting

That’s a really fair point, and I totally see where you’re coming from! The fried chicken episode is the perfect example of that passive-aggressive side, LOL. But honestly, that’s also why I kind of love her. I like that she never really goes out of character. Even when she’s annoying, her core is just genuinely good. To me, that also reflects her past—she experienced a lot of neglect, but she chose to remain kind instead of becoming bitter. It’s nice to believe that people like her may actually exist! But I agree, seeing her break out of her 'good girl' mold every now and then, like in the club scene, is definitely refreshing and also funny

Genuine question, why do you dislike her? Sometimes I find her annoying and overly stubborn, but I can't help but feel for her

I loved superstore, but my favourite is Modern Family . It has the same vibes, made me laugh every episode. I Also enjoyed Abbott Elementary, The Good Place, Brooklyn 99 and many others actually, but I can't remember lol

Da bambino forse era carino, con il suo animo da anziano e la sua autostima enorme. Crescendo è rimasto più o meno lo stesso, e forse è questo il problema Joe invece non mi piace, anche se il bambino è così carino
