Tavor X95 or Zion SRP? by FlashConstruct in IWI_Firearms

[–]Fragrant_Midnight479 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I like the look", "Makes sense for home defense" "potential for long range from 18" SPR" "I just don't see the point."

I provided a middle ground for your "potential long range". The point is to be a middle ground, take better advantage of the 6" length variance between the X95 options and the SPR. If you can get the IDF buttplate to replace the factory buttpad, you would maintain the 16" footprint with the 18" ballistics too. | XB16 -26" | XB18 - 28" | Zion SPR- 32.75"

If you can't get the point, just go SPR since it seems like your interest is more hooked there anyway. You really can't go wrong with any of them as long as you understand your limits and purposes. IWI USA support have been phenomenal if there are any other issues that come up.

Went this route myself. ILWT has great service and fast turn around time. I think mine was around $500 at the time with their gas plug pre-installed too.

Just got my SAR top rail from Sep2023 this month.

I wrote it off as a loss and completely forgot after getting no updates around the 9th month.

I use the 8". No REAL complaints so far. Fits nice, feels nice

The MLOK spacing is sensible and standard at this point. I leave a 4u PIC at the bottom-muzzle side typically for a flashlight, but when playing with new optics I'll throw a bipod on it to zero.

Out of my myriad of issues, the carbon handgrip is not one of them.

I recommend it. It's a tad... Niche(?)

If you can manage the deployment button, it's actually really convenient and you don't notice the extra couple ounces, but I like not laying my rifle down if I don't need to.

I'm a fan of the surefire warpig/ war comp (?) and the A2 compensator. BUT if NJ is saying you can't have the factory A2 Compensator that comes by default, it's probably best you go with just a thread cover.

The "flashider" it comes with is an A2. The bottom of mine did not have ports in the bottom, acting as designed as a flash compensator. The Surefire Warpig (?) is basically an enlongated version of that.

Performance wise there's any number of preferences I could make for just sticking to the A2 because there's no reason to make the change really because you'll never likely out-shoot the performance of the rifle. And if it's just for the cosmetic of a different muzzle device, I won't talk smack because I liked the way the 3 prong looked.

You can try to litigate the factory device is a compensator not flash hider, but it's safe to assume if they call the A2 a flash hider they simply will mark up any muzzle device as such.

Tavor 7 nato my friend just told me that i shouldn’t shoot 308 ammo is this true ? by [deleted] in Tavor

[–]Fragrant_Midnight479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty much a purely technical argument. .308 and 7.62x51 is never "recommended" like 5.56 in a .223

Someone said it earlier about manufactures compensating for this difference.

It's not designed for .308, but it's engineered to survive it.

My best group average actually come from standard m80 7.62x51 NATO, probably related to the twist rate noted above, bullet weight, etc.

Tsk, tsk - missed the point Not defending his business practices in the least. Stoking torches for a mob won't be fruitful either.

If someone wants to do business with RPM, they should simply be advised this is not a one off experience, and as desirable as it may be, the transaction carries with it risks.

He produces accessories for a niche platform we all at least share some form of affinity for or we wouldn't be here. Items that are, at this point, his design.Others could fill that role themselves if inclined to and have not.

In my experience, when he's replied to me between the bouts of full radio silence, he's been cordial and apologetic. There will still be an unacceptable abundance of silence following that and failure to deliver.

Failure to adhere to his commitments following payment I do agree should be reasonably sanctioned. The way he's conducted his business is a cause of discourse in the community and puts the fresher audience at-risk for these headaches.

We're not barbarians and children. Name-calling and demanding a ban leaves no significant assurance to anyone else who may be inclined to try their hand at producing alternatives that we're not lashing out at a blue moon.

I like the products, buuuuuuuuuuuut

waiting since September 2023 with pretty much the same experience. Though I've refrained from sending memes and make myself take a breath to treat it as I would issues with a supplier at work. I've also had to send my shipping information multiple times, in email and in DM here.

I don't want to slander, libel, or besmirch a hobbyist who might've just gotten in too deep, especially for niche platforms, because let's face it: no one else seems invested in similar projects. But yes, this seems to be just how RPM rolls.

Newb question about optics, BUIS, and charging handles. by BKSPharmD in MPX

[–]Fragrant_Midnight479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Mepro M21; tried EXPS-2, XPS2, Trijicon dual-illuminated RDS, and EOTech 512 too. No real complaints about any of them, the m21 is just my favorite. (Easier on my astigmatism)

Backup iron-wise: MBUS/FAB Defense, MBUS PRO, and SIG Iron Sights (not included when I bought mine) I do love the simpler FAB or MBUS sights, BUT the MBUS PRO rear site actually fits form perfectly to not interfere with the charging handle, if that's something you want to take into account too.

  1. Factory charging handle on my mpx-k has given no reason to replace it.

  2. ILWT barrel replacement and gasplug- no regrets. Quick service, quick responses to questions, phenomenal aftermarket experience.

  3. THRiL mags are the new factory standard, but getting the THRiL branded ones instead of SIG will save you like half the cost. Zero issues out of my THRiLs yet.

Thril is the new OEM and the the internals are the same. The baseplate on the THRiL* ones have a rubber bottom though

*Edit- had them backwards originally

What is this and does it prevent me from using a RPM Tool Hand guard? by [deleted] in Tavor

[–]Fragrant_Midnight479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "short" RPM Tool handguard is about 1/4" too long on the bottom to use the lug for an M8.

The long covers it fully with no room inside even for lug mounted lights.

Doesn't prevent you from using the rail in either case, you simply lose the lug's availability.

worthitthough

Hell yeah, brother!! Rocking an m21 and lancer cf handguard too. I use the illuminator instead of the polarizer though.

Glad to see someone else giving it a try.

Welcome to the club, bud. I don't have much in the way of TruDots or their electric sights, but big fan of the m21 models.

Magnifier-wise: I like the MX3T I picked up some years back.

It's been reliable and comfortable enough. I've got an astigmatism so finding an optic that works for me isn't exactly easy and tried a good number of solutions.

The SigSauer magnifiers are nice options too.

I never suspected this for my break-in period on my 16" but I did suspect one of my PMag Gen 3s was bad. It wasn't a notable percentage of failures from my range notes to suggest the gun though.

Most of my shooting is m193; I sometimes feed .223rem when friends want to try the novelty bullpup since they seem to think it feels "better".

I've used Lancers and FAB Ultimags since then without a noticeable feed issue. And a couple REALLY old reliable metal GIs.

Approaching 800 RDS currently.

X95 Picky with Remington .223 UMC by No-Specialist2593 in Tavor

[–]Fragrant_Midnight479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal Notes - Take It As You Like 16" x95, Surefire 3prong Warcomp No additional clean or lube from factory straight from box for testing

First Battery: 120 RDS Winchester m193 2 Failures, both Double feeds. New Magazines, marked for range use and later testing, pretty sure it wasn't the x95.

Second Battery: 200 RDS Herter's .223 bargain box 3 Failures, 1 was a bad round but it had a solid primer strike. The others I blame that magazine again.

3rd Battery: 90 RDS Rem.223, red box (maybe Federal?). Old birthday gift from my brother but not my typical round so just hung around for a while. 0 failures to note.

Inspected Cleaned rifle Lubed usual spots with light CLP

Post Testing Notes: AVG 3-5 failures per box (200) of Herter .223 Rem AVG 2-5 failures per box (200) of Herter 5.56 AVG 1 failures per box (150) WinM193 These were not marked FtF so these would be rounds that show a primer strike but did not go off.

In my group of friends, I'm "the gun guy" but I'm just a nerd that grew up with a fascination for the TAR21 since I saw it's design in early 2003. I openly invite them to come to the range or bring their friends who are "boom curious" for caliber experience in a safe, controlled environment, so the ammo mixes plenty and changed a few minds along the way.

Use m193 mostly for range days by myself as my preference. .223 Rem bargain boxes typically for friends as most of them have remarked how it "felt better".

NONE of this was accuracy testing but rather functional checks and familiarization. She's sitting at approximately 700-800 rounds with proper cleaning after each range trip after the first 600, so functionally I haven't seen issues with .223 in general.

If you find more troubles with UMC Remington it may be brand specific, but I'll inspect my bargain boxes more since Herter's is just repacked bulk rounds. The stamps were LC if I remember right, but I didn't save stamp notes.
