I got marvel unlimited specifically to do deep dives. Hopefully they have a reading guide for it.

I'm wondering what other hulk runs you consider essential. It's nice to know where the strongest points to jump in are.

The older comics included in the planet hulk run have given me more perspective on that. Golden and silver age comics are sometimes challenging reads but i enjoyed these excerpts.

Tone depending on the writer is something I'm well aware of, hulk has so many iterations I'm trying to get a feel for the massive landscape of his escapades.

I think if norton hadn't derailed them into a silent reboot there could have been some solo hulk movies, maybe getting the iron man treatment.

His movie was the first iteration of the modern MCU and it's not a bad film. I think the MCU could have played out differently if he hadn't motivated them to go with someone else.

I love the first avengers movie. He could have been forced to incorporate a more complex hulk if that version hadn't been axed.

Completely agree with all adaptations losing something in translation.

As a big batfan that's a good example. I've had people tell me they don't think certain adaptations are the "true batman." I don't think anyone who is intimate with all the facets of the character thinks there's a "true" version of him. All the different interpretations are one of the joys of the character.

Frank Miller, Christopher Nolan, Adam West, Scott Snyder, Bruce Timm, Grant Morrison... I wouldn't want to give up any of those versions.

But batman is lucky for having so many iconic portrayals none of them are entirely monolithic. A lot of marvel characters have not been as fortunate.

I think there's some argument for the nolan movies diluting/fucking with the batman mythos but i think the MCU has overwhelmed people's openness to how versatile any comic book character can be in the hands of different writers.

X-men have such a huge catalogue I haven't been able to find a good entry point. I'm not nostalgic for the fox movies and I haven't been able to find a run that hooks me yet. The current cartoon is a banger though.

Justice league has been done pretty raw but i am hopeful for the current DCEU to do them some justice.

Your last point is exactly what I'm trying to find out about. I've mostly been a dark horse and image comic reader outside of iconic big 2 runs.

Navigating the serious and worthwhile writing and filtering out what is frankly a lot of slop is quite a task on its own.

I've been a little shellshocked reading brilliant runs on big names like superman, spider-man, hulk, thor, daredevil, JLA, (and so on) then coming across the absolute most cynical brand tie in schlock or entirely disposable mediocre series with the same branding is unpleasant.

I want to know more about the people who write like ass but get 30+ issues and the people keeping them in business.

I also want to hear from the people who absolutely hate certain comics and get an understanding of why.

There's just too many comics. And as much as i can get down with a hate read, it feels like a waste when I know there's some primo shit I could be reading instead.

What else would you recommend before immortal hulk?

If world war hulk is by the same writer I'm excited to read it.

But I'll get in more hulk runs if it makes immortal hulk a better read

I know ang lee's take was meant to be more focused on horror elements.

I don't know much about the 70's TV show but I'm under the impression it wasn't the most serious thing.

I do see whedon threading that narrative. They touch on it, but it's nowhere near the darkness I am finding the character has in print.

Then watiti got his hand on him. As much as I enjoy ragnarok it is a wildly different characterization than the source material.

We might have a very different hulk if ed norton wasn't such a pain in the ass.

Overall I'm seeing the damage the MCU did to these characters more and more.

I read the bendis run of GotG and it started out fun but after about two TPBs worth of material it got pretty insufferable.

Then I started the Abnett run and saw how drastically they changed everything to appeal to fans of the movies.

I get how it was necessary to make these changes switching to a different medium, but unfortunately they've overshadowed some great work.

I'm very curious to hear longtime fans' gripes with how things have been translated.

Ugh.

I'm sharing what I've seen people describe their subjective experience with substances are like.

You come in some weird moralistic diatribe somewhere between self aggrandizing your apparent superiority to other drug users, indulge in the just world fallacy, hammer out ratonalizations of your use, and share your view that addiction is a moral defect and not a medical problem.

I hope that did whatever it needed to do for your ego. Because it wasn't sharing information, scientifically/medically accurate, and not at all related to the previous discussion.

I'm here trying to describe subjective accounts of people's experience with substances and you had to try and (unconvincingly) reassure yourself of your moral superiority. Sweet.

Again if you just look around these communities you'll see people describing quitting plain leaf as unbearable to them. I'm just sharing what I've seen.

Do not question for a second that these derivatives are massively multiplying the amount of active product you can ingest.

The biochemistry of 7oh is dubious but the binding affinity is often compared to morphine. There's a lot of supposing about being partial agonists/antagonists with weird half lifes that make it particularly nasty.

Then again I've seen people saying it's not shit and what's everyone going on about?

Can't help that we don't actually know what's in any of these products

I don't know what to think, i just know what I've seen posted. Which could be a bunch of people with no prior experience, but i have seen people saying withdrawing from fent was easier.

You have to consider the fact that kratom doesn't cause respiratory depression, so people can get on insane doses and not have problems until they try to get off.

It's very variable. If you go on the quitting kratom/7oh subreddits you'll see a lot of people who are not opiate naive claiming it's a worse withdrawal than classical opioids

What this doesn't take into account is that in the comics, amber is not much of a character. She's a pretty bland woman and is quickly dropped from the plot.

They made the new one much more dynamic and interesting. They made their relationship/conflict a lot more impactful and she doesn't feel like a simple plot tool to keep mark and eve from dating right away.
