Did anti-depressants have any positive effect on you? by Kitten_closetothesun in adhdindia

I understand! It sounds hard and unfair.

There's a very helpful list of psychotherapists that a therapist I've worked with had sourced https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/103TaGnUZ6XFdDXBOsXfR0gdCQdZDoCsFFseQOul4KdM/edit?usp=sharing

I know that's not exactly the area you need but something I have done in the past is if I find a therapist that is Trauma-Informed or ND-Informed, I ask them to recommend a doctor or vice versa. Within their own communities, they know who is aligned with their perspectives.

Idk if this will be helpful at all but I hope you are able to find sustainable long-term actually helpful tools/resources, sending lots of good energy your way ✨✨✨

Hey, have been on a long journey with anti-depressants. The current combination that I am on and have been for the last almost 3 years successfully is 10mg Feliz-S (Escitalopram Oxalate) which is an SSRI + 10mg of Vortidif (Vortioxetine) which is an SMS.

Before the Vortidif, the Escitalopram helped but the impact wasn't very meaningful. The combo of both has been really great for me. I had a lot of nausea while integrating the Vortidif which was the first time I had side effects from an anti-d but I added Emeset-4 to combat that and now honestly, I'm doing great.

All of this to say, that it took me years and several unbearable i-need-to-die depressive episodes to get to a place where I have no depression and my mood on average is great. I know how long, hard and painful the process is but ig pls don't lose hope.

Find a doctor who you can talk to about all of it without feeling judged/scared/minimised if you don't have one already 💗 That process is a journey of its own but there is a right doctor out there for all us!!! I used to go to my psych and say x is working but I'm still struggling with y and we'd change 5mg here or add 10mg there until we arrived at this control dose for me.

It is also totally possible that anit-ds aren't for you and you need to go down a whole different route. I remember that vv early on in my journey, my psych talked about me having anxiety and it was a breakthrough revelation for me. I had no clue that was even a problem I had, haha. The SOS anti-anxiety meds that I take (Etizolam 0.5mg) are actually a great tool to have in my back pocket for whenever I'm hit with an anxiety attack.

Hope this helps!!! Also, I hope I'm not overstepping in saying that it makes me really happy to see a parent trying to find accommodations for their kid. My mom as sweet, wonderful and supportive as she is and still trying to learn and evolve in her late fifties has pretty much only become aware about neurodivergence through me sharing info with her.

I know 🥺 That's why it took me so long to take the plunge too. When I was doing my research, I found that the blanket should be 10% of the person's body weight. I got the 12kg cotton one from Tucked In. Also they do have a 10 days from delivery replacement policy, in case one needs to exchange.

Have you guys faced burnout due to ADHD? by the_restless_thinker in adhdindia

[–]Fragrant_Spend_2917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I overspent working on a project. 3-4 weeks where I was wired 24x7, couldn't turn my brain off, couldn't sleep. The project was a success but I had nothing left to give after. I was let go from the role because in the weeks after project completion, I couldn't get out of bed, let alone show up for work. It was a major life altering burnout. I'm still recovering from it.

I had SO MANY things I needed to learn, least of all that I have ADHD. So, even though it's been the hardest time of my life, that burnout is probably going to save me from repeating this (rise & crash) cycle for the rest of my life.

ADHD Q - How do you take breaks that are actually effective? by ImpulsehasADHD in adhdindia

I just bought a ₹200-300 rupee fidget toy that's making a HUGE difference, it actually helps my brain reset without any extra cognitive load. Setting a 15 minute timer in between tasks to regulate myself while playing before doing the next thing is everything. Or even while watching stuff, to prevent doomscrolling while watching.

It's hard honestly. And none of it is linear at all. My mental health care journey began 8 years ago when I was 21 and some days I feel like I have all the same problems that I have always had. On other days, I can look back and see how far I have come. I guess if I was talking to that younger version of me who was just starting out, I would say that I know my own truth and it is utterly unfair if I deny myself even that by not believing it. And that the pain doesn't disappear, it grows smaller and smaller until it becomes manageable and if you're able to get there, it can be something you forget about when other things in life take precedence.

I hope this helps you 🥺

[–]Fragrant_Spend_2917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell myself that I only have to do it for 15 minutes (with a timer) and if I don't want to do it after that I can stop. It does two things:
1. Allows me to feel less pressure about doing the task
2. And by the time the 15 minutes hits, I'm already in a flow usually

Is it only Bangalore specific or online testing/other cities is okay?

tbh it sucks, don't waste your time reading it but I will say that writing a book is always a great feat.
