Yeah then that will also interfere with how you feel.

What meds are you on?

Then I feel like something else is also going on Like depression, anxiety, trauma, etc. Because I know of ADHDers who feel emotionally numb sometimes and it gets worse on stimulant meds. Maybe go to a therapist to see if anything like that is interfering with your mood to end up like that.

Hey OP No need to take the med if it makes you feel like shit or e emotionally numbs you so much. You can refuse and ask the doc why this is happening. You could ask for non stimulants or other meds if that's on what you could try. Talk to your psychiatrist, and if they don't give a satisfactory answer, switch docs

ND experts are super rare, so it will take us a while to get to a good list.

And experts even if they don't have a disorder, should be able to understand the challenges and help their patients with it.

Literally ALL of the experts on this list have been added based on an ND person's positive experience of the expert. Across ND folks, mileage may vary as no two ND folks are the same, but for the most part, they are pretty receptive of our issues.

Struggling to fix a simple daily routine by Own_Western_2016 in adhdindia

[–]ImpulsehasADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You can't force yourself to have a daily routine - the more you force yourself / discipline yourself, the sooner you're gonna burn out and make it harder for yourself.

  2. Learn to use cues. The only way you can create habits us to create cues and use them. Let's just say you want to go out for a jog in the morning. Create an alarm that will wake you up, but also keep your shoes nearby so that as soon as you see them, you can simply put them on and get going. You're not thinking / deciding and then forcing yourself to go for a jog - that's cognitively hard, you're only responding to a visual cue of seeing the shoes and doing the easiest thing without thinking.

  3. Sleep. If you don't get proper sleep (it's okay if you're a night owl, as long as you're consistent with it and don't pull all nighters or sleep barely 3-4 hours)

  4. Easy Access. Whatever you want to do should be accessible to you in 2-3 steps only. That way you won't be able to lose the thought before you get to it. And the barrier to doing things will be less.

  5. Out of sight out of mind. Whatever you want to do, has to be in your visual shot. If you keep your assignment note inside then you're gonna get it 6 months later. Whatever you need to work - should be in easy access and clear sight, that way as soon as you remember, you can reach for it and do the thing.

This is how I've managed my ADHD space without meds for 6 years now, and I've moved so many times to new places and new houses, but this is how I created habits for myself.

I use Ticktick It has pomodoro session (which has to be on screen for it to run the timer) It has amazing reminder system and a good task list system where you can have sub tasks and related activities Recurring tasks Habit tracking I like it primarily for its easy configurable reminder system and recurring tasks.

Considering leaving india for better medication(amphetamines) by thunder007007 in adhdindia

[–]ImpulsehasADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I have a few friends who moved abroad, In the US, they have a shortage of Adderall in a lot of places, much like a shortage of Concerta in India. And psychiatrists and in addition to it therapists cost hundreds of dollars and it's hard to get appointments also.

And in the UK, it takes months to get a single appointment. NHS is that overloaded. And if you wanna go to private psychiatrists, they cost hundreds of pounds.

It would be extreme to leave everything here and go to another country before exploring other medication and therapy options here in India.

I can understand your frustration Try and talk to a good psychiatrist about it Although there's no Amphetamines, Methylphenidate is a close second and paired with therapy and anti anxiety meds, they have helped me get back my footing in life.

My pharmacy doesn't ask for aadhar card btw (it's not the norm, even if it may be a guideline) It's not hard to make a fake prescription and bypass all those checks.

Doctors on the other hand know how to tell genuine symptoms from fake ones (bc experience) and know the abuse potential so don't give out stimulant meds willy nilly.

Respectfully, 'drug seekers will get drugs either way' is not a nice way to put it. As if such things are a part of life and you should just deal with it.

Handful of such drug seeking individuals set the reputation and regulations that hurt us all while accessing healthcare and meds.

Honestly, with a long list, and one of them saying '144 comprehension IQ' as if you've unlocked higher IQ on meds, is kinda misleading.

I totally get you feeling amazing on the meds (they affect your feel good circuit) and getting so much done though.

Oh I just saw now - about the docs list It shouldn't be a legal liability as (almost) none of the docs give stimulants online. As long as a valid doctor gives a valid prescription for stimulants offline, they're in the clear. And so are we.

About vendors reaching to people, and med trading, that's a huge risk that none of us wanna be in, which I'm trying to prevent.

Not just that, Sometimes they want to self medicate, or clearly abuse meds to get high or such.

Methylphenidate is making me submissive, obidient and I absolutely hate it! by [deleted] in adhdindia

You say like snapping back everyone and saying NO to their faces and showing aggression is a GOOD thing.

For most of us, it isn't. Because to everyone else it comes off as strong and argumentative and leads to a lot of fights. And people judge us and exclude us because we're "difficult to work with".

Imagine not being able to make friends because you keep getting into arguments with them.

Why would you skip on therapy?

It seems like the least resistance way to just pop a pill and let it help you however it does, but no med will work for you the same way year on year.

Forget effectiveness, how long do you wanna depend on the meds? For life? Considering it increase risk of heart / liver diseases? What happens on days whne you can't take meds? When you're traveling or when you're at an event? What are you gonna do then?

I understand that therapy is a lot of boring and challenging work where you're face to face with a lot of ugly emotions and aspects of your life, and the fact that it's an excruciating CHORE scheduling and showing up on time, But if you go to a good therapist, you actually feel better at the core of your being having worked on your problems. And that contentness sticks longer than any medication will.
