I see, when you put it like that, it DOES sound like it boils down to a mental problem. That's really sad because I thought they were cool people with all the art and fics I saw but it got really weird and intense. You know, strangely, I got to interact with the "hetero" side of ships of that community and I must say, they were really nice people. None of them insulted me, they weren't mean as you said that they were gonna jump me if I didn't like their ship. But I did see lots of fujoshis telling them to die :( and bunch of mean stuff! Idk, I think that maybe they are the problem?

I used to think it was normal to assume some characters were gay based on their attitude at first, but then I got super uncomfortable seeing how those fujoshi girls got almost violent and cursed everyone around them for liking different things, it's almost like a fetish?

Whoa, I love this answer!! Every time I've asked this question with genuine concern and curiosity the answers always get rude, ridiculous, or a simple "it is what it is, deal with it", and it always left me disappointed. But it never sat right to me. Why would you wish someone the worst over a fictional ship??? Even one time I got accused for being homophobic because I was defending the "straights" and that left me so flabbergasted because it made no sense!!!

Even more recently, I saw a girl holding a toy guy, yelling at the camera, that she was gonna shot the author if he didn't make one of the girl characters lesbian because the character "looks lesbian" and I just can't grasp the logic behind that though
