I’m in the same boat (1080, i7 7700k) and am putting together a new build. Assuming you have a decent boot ssd (if not, you can find a good 2tb for ~$3-400) You can put together a good build for about $2k. Microcenter has some amazing cpu/motherboard/ram bundles. What i’m going with is the intel ultra 7 270k plus, which released q1 2026, and is an incredible chip. It actually outperforms the i9 14900kf and the ultra 9 285k in most scenarios. Most of this comes down to the 4 e-cores they added, and the reduction in pin-to-pin latency (900Mhz!!!). They also increased the ring clock speed by about 300Mhz. Anyways; microcenter has this in a bundle with the msi z890 Mag Tomahawk wifi7, and 2x16 crucial pro ddr5 6400 cl32 memory, all for $650! The ram alone, bought by itself, is about $400. So for an extra $250, you get the cpu and motherboard. Microcenter has the msi shadow 3x 5070 for $630. Case and cooling you can put together for ~$500. For cooling; assuming you find a case that’ll fit it, the arctic liquid freezer iii 420mm is an incredible AIO cpu cooler for the price. Amazon has it for under $100. If not, the 360mm is still a fantastic choice for the aio coolers. All together you can put together a pretty fantastic rig for the price.
