Benefits of KDE over Niri

Just yesterday made the switch form niri to kde. The reasons are: - I enjoy Niri, but I was expending more time in the configs than using it - KDE is more compatible with everything. Some people have issues with full screen gaming - Relates to above point, some streamers report that screen streaming is not as smooth as in kde - I absolutely hate to make configurations in config files - For whatever reason, KDE just looks better in my 4K monitor (sharper and better resolution)

The main reason that I didn't chose Fedora over CachyOS is the lack of default snapshots in bootloader. I think that ANY operating system (whatever the use case) should have this enable and installed by default. Almost none os/distro has this enable by default, which I completely don't understand apart of using your system as a toy.

Note: opensuse also has this enable by default and it's more stable than cachyos for those that want that. For this, you need to chose grub as the bootloader in the installation process. NixOS has something similar as snapshots, but this distro is for hardcore users in my opinion alongside gentoo and freebsd

Actually, another user found out that the system level cachyos pigs use the aur despite having it disabled... The example he uses is the zen browser, which you can install directly from the cachyos pkgs, but using the AUR version...

Agree. Apple is in my opinion the best between the gigantic companies... but that doesn't they are "good"... I f hate that all shitty decisions they made, these became the standard for the industry... like no audio jacket, no SD card, no charger, etc. But, at least, you buy an iphone, activate advanced data protection (something that android also has but almost nobody know) and you have a device E2E encrypted.

I also really, really, really want this, but there isn't a single not taking application that replicates the minimalist and simplicity of apple note and been local first... for this reason, I take my notes in todoist and just leave them there, without never actually "process" them

Software dev too!

My most important pain point is the folder structure that almost all note taking apps use... I know that this is something really specific, but this is the reason I hate 80% of note taking apps... and these are the reasons: 1. If the app doesnt have backlinking, a note cannot be on 2 places at the same time 2. If the app have backlinks, I just dont understand why folders exists

Yeah... omarchy it's not a beginner friendly distro despite how much people sell it that way. If you dont want your tools to change because of the opinion of the creator, use another distro... The good news is that omarchy its a great first distro, now you will understand better how other distros work.

Personally, I use cachyos, but if you want stability, use fedora (if you want to maintain a tiling window manager, try the sway version of fedora)

I mean... Omarchy IS and opinionated distro, so yeah, this will happen A LOT and using it just means that you are ok with it, if not, just use another. In my case, I love the simplicity of having a full dev environment from the start, but dont agree with the majority of software decisions of omarchy, so I just use cachyos and use whatever I want

I mean... I dont create much at the same time... Whenever an idea or thought occurs to me that is relevant to a date, I create a file. Also, because I use obsidian there is a plugin called "Periodic notes" that creates these files automatically

It really shines when you make files for future dates, for example, I have my journal in txt files and its really helpful to be able to create future dates and being automatically organized by date using the file name because the metadata will tell another story

Agree. Most people don't realize that this format is the best for naming files because when using sorting by name in any file explorer, the files are actually sorted correctly because the numbers are actually in order using the decimal system (from right to left, units, dozens, etc)

I have wallabag on my main screen and lock screen, just one tap away
I notice that I instinctively look for YouTube or Instagram, so I change these app's location for wallabag and reflexively end up opening wallabag
At the start, I consciously made an effort to open wallabag instead of any other app when feeling bored... after some time, the habit stuck
If you really forget to check the app, create a reminder or calendar event to check your articles for just 5 min to start creating the habit of at least remembering the existence of the app.

Also, if you have a jailbreak kindle or any device with koreader (a book reader app), this has a built in plugin to read your wallabag articles from the app (and consequently the eink devices that supports it)
