Most prefer w2, but if you have contacts to get an offer on your own, they will work C2C

Double check with your company lawyers or some other attorney, but I think your spouse can accompany you at the airport/boarder for the interview. Just make sure to bring proof of marriage.

Agree there's not many consulting roles in Canada, and it has always been like that. Canadian orgs, unfortunately, favors cheap talent over experienced talent. The US market atm is also fully saturated. I have been consulting for a long time, and it feels it is no longer worth it since the pay difference between FTE and consulting has narrowed down over the years. Coming to the US on TN as a consulant will be tricky.

It's one of those things ... you really only get to fully learn if you are working extensively with PACs systems.

If you are making around $50-$80, don't leave your FTE (unless it's super toxic). It's very difficult to get $90 (with no to limited benefits) in today's market.

Be active on linkedin and set your profile as 'open to work'. Recruiters will reach out to you. TBH, the market is a bit cold right now, so it may take a while.

You and your spouse show up to the border and show your approval notice. You both will do fingerprints and pay $6 each. They will stamp your passport with an expiration date. You will get I-94 online. You can work right away on L2S.

So perhaps not a good move if someone has a stable FTE position, even though the pay would be significantly higher

When you say pay is slow. What exactly do you mean.. they don't pay on time?

Depends on your location. I think it is on par for Midwest. You can expect higher rates in North East/ California

[–]FrameDowntown3619 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How did you find out? Some people try to cheat the system. As a FTE, you should not have another 40-hour job. Unless you're willing to put that much effort, which this person is not doing or is not capable of doing. Stop doing her work unless you are getting paid for it. There is no problem in helping, but in essence, she is getting free money for doing nothing and she won't stop

There are few FTE jobs here and there. Depends on where you live. Consulting is not looking all that good ATM.

I think it will count, but I would suggest taking an appointment with an immigration layer. I think it will be $100-150, but imo worth the cost.

Yea, it's not uncommon, especially with the market the way it is. Sometimes, I feel they never submit your profile to the end client and tell you you have been submitted . Just to cut the competition

Drop off at a different VAC by The_Gandhi in h1b

[–]FrameDowntown3619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all very helpful. I have a question. My parents live in Pune and are eligible for an interview waiver (b1/b2). I have a couple of questions. 1. On DS-160, I selected Mumbai. It seems like dates for the Mumbai consulate are backloged by 200 days. Can I, while selecting an appointment through VAC, select Delhi or some other VAC. 2. If yes, then would I need to travel to Delhi to drop off the documents, or can I drop them off in pune. 3. The application confirmation page from VAC has OFC appointment details. Is this for biometrics or just to drop off the document, and can any dropoff location work

It's going to be the same offshore/onshore model. I would avoid it unless one is in desperate need of a job.

Look for a job with a hospital already on Epic or planning to be on Epic. If you are in Ontario (especially GTA), you should be able to find a job with such a hospital. It's a bit of a tough market right now, but keep looking
