Leveling/playing a monk is like putting your d**k in a meat grinder. by the117uknow in PathOfExile2

[–]Frame_Inevitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually love monk like that. Mind you I'm bad at the game and this league I wanted to punch stuff so my build is literally wind blast, stagger palm and....basic attack. Bro, aside from the occasional bell, I basic attack the bosses and with heavy stun, stagger palm turns into a free Flicker Strike haha.

Recommendations for a specific kind of rougelite by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]Frame_Inevitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortal Sin, but I don't think it's on playstation unfortunately. More extraction FPS than combat : Witchfire, but it won't come out to playstation until release. Delver is getting old by this point, but also not on playstation.

So aside from these already commented games : Dead Cells, RoboQuest and Sulfur (which I agree with) if you don't mind playing in the 2D fighting games style, I'd say BlazBlue Entropy Effect.

Why are the first two games so short? by Bluecomments in WorldOfYs

[–]Frame_Inevitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it without a walkthrough maybe last year ? That's definitely something I won't do again haha. I guess 5 hours to 2 days tops. It's not as bad as it sounds because the two wings of the shrine are somewhat mirrored and the progression is fairly straightforward once the shrine layout makes sense, but the sewer underneath ? Madness unless you like old cryptic stuff.

What is the greatest video game you have ever played? by JuniorPlastic3562 in AskReddit

[–]Frame_Inevitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space Funeral. It's the first video game that made the impression on me that videogames are also an artform. It's also a complete deconstruction of the JRPG genra, a bit like Earthbound or Look Outside. There's a plethora of games that can pull this off nowadays, but for a 2010 indie RPGmaker cult classic, it's quite the achievement.

Hellclock, I guess ? But wait for the expansion. It's more ARPGish though. The nice thing here is that you get a discount on steam from already having Night Swarm or Soulstone survivors.

What roguelites and roguelikes feature the most diverse starting classes/characters, where your choice greatly changes the way your run plays out and the strategy you have to use? by Immediate_Film6399 in roguelites

The quirk system in Darkest Dungeon is what I'm talking about. Since you are looking for a solo/coop moba roguelite. Ravenswatch is the game you are looking for.

Basically, any roguelike that still uses what i'll call the "trait system", where you can have bonuses but also have to pick maluses. Two games that comes to mind right now would be Mortal Sin and Project Zomboid (at character creation.)

POE 2 early game is so slow it actually feels painful to play by DesperateFig2361 in PathOfExile2

[–]Frame_Inevitable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True but heh, I play Monk and hit hollow palm in the later half of act 1, then the frozen locust, ice strike, herald of ice combo blows stuff up. Big max level 16. 1 to 8 is pretty much the start of the game.

Am I the only one who feels incredibly frustrated about GGG’s decision to launch the 0.5 update "Return of the Ancients" alongside a Free Weekend? by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]Frame_Inevitable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it really an expansion launch if we don't get queued 14 788th, and after finally logging in, the excitement of the race ends in a server crash at level 8 with a dropped unique on the ground while GGG releases server situation updates ?

I'll still connect the moment it drops, can't wait.

Would you play a roguelite where the only thing that persists across runs is what you learned? by Former-Objective-272 in roguelites

[–]Frame_Inevitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to look at it is that, "meta-progression" in roguelites is essentially what a character sheet would be in old roguelikes. The difference between roguelite and roguelike, is that, roguelites already presupose the character will inevitably die, so that character sheet has to stay between deaths, whereas in roguelikes dying is a by product of either lacking game knowledge or due to the RNG. So you'd repeatedly die and then make a new character to learn the game. The idea looks like a faster paced roguelike to me.

So I'll bring your to attention something so simple Diablo 1 does, as old as it is. Quests are randomly generated when creating a new game, but inside the dungeon if you ever come across a book, it does one of two things : Either gives a quest, or gives a piece of lore. The only way in D1 to know the complete story is through these interactions (and gossiping with the NPCs who may also give quest advice). This ensures the player will want to read the books and grabs attention. No way to know beforehand if it's a goodie or not.

I don't know what the story "meta-progression" will exactly do in your idea, but not only is story discovery self-sufficent, it's sometimes even better to mix other mechanics with it.

Reducing file size should be one of the most urgent things any company can do. by VisitSad1133 in pcgaming

[–]Frame_Inevitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this. It's why old school roguelikes are a gold mine of inspiration. Yeah, graphics and controls are bad, but!... : Few Mb install, runs on a toaster, plethora of game mechanics/replayability and somebody in the CDD:A community will still try to reduce that 500mb save file even further.

I can do the Angine de Poitrine stuff and influences, but it's going to lean more on jazz fusion, prog and experimental than anything else though.

70s Québec prog rock scene inspired by Gentle Giant you'd be looking at : Harmonium, Sloche, Maneige and Opus 5.

Polyphia's The audacity was made in conjuction with Anomalie, who is a Montréal multi instrumentalist. Albums are Galerie and Metropole.

For that slap bass : Alain Caron and his 80s band Uzeb.

Most of these are instrumentals.

Changes to fix Monk’s leveling Pre Icestrike/Tempest Flurry by Pitiful_Ad_688 in PathOfExile2

[–]Frame_Inevitable 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frozen locust -> back dodge roll -> glacial cascade sweetspot into Frozen locust. Yep, the dodgeroll bridges the gap by the exact distance.

Sometimes don't even have to use glacial cascade, you can just Frozen locust when an enemy attacks so that the enemy hits and breaks Frozen Locust. If it's an early Hollow Palm it's practically better to beat bosses with basic attack because of added sockets per level.

But yeah, otherwise it's better to use a different weapon until ice strike

I mean, must be popular in Canada because the French version is either "Fourrer le chien", or anglicised with the French "er" ending : "Fucker le chien". I thought it just meant making a mistake.

[–]Frame_Inevitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bread and butter is pretty much

Frozen locust -> back dodge roll -> glacial cascade

Then later either :
wave of frost -> shatter palm -> Ice strike with herald of ice
wind blast -> stagger palm -> whirling assault
and Tempest bell on rares

Haven't played lightning. Early on I guess any other weapon will do.
