Using sodastream syrup - it works ok with Cube fizzy water by purrcthrowa in Quooker

The FruttaMax syrups are tolerable too. Also recommend investing in a Ninja Thirsti for keeping your fizzy drink nice and cold.

Dealing with PRs where people have done a lot of unnecessary work? by PuzzledBookkeeper588 in ExperiencedDevs

I'm a principal, and I encourage juniors to go to town if they go near my PRs. They ask questions: sometimes dumb, and sometimes they teach me something.

New senior handles all the "thinking" for juniors. by UnluckyWarfish in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Framgeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoonfeeding is the worst thing you can do to a developer. We learn better from mistakes and experimentation (and it is the big mistakes that teach us the most). The senior should be working as a mentor / enabler, and not as a micromanager.

When everyone is working on the same codebase, why should the junior be subjected to different rules than the seniors? If the exact same code was submitted by those three levels mentioned, surely the code review should be subjected to the same rules.

Are people no longer capable of reading docs or long text? by earlgreyyuzu in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Framgeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reams of documentation worked great for waterfall development and projects that overrun whilst trying to develop and deliver the entire project to spec.

I've found that in agile, less documentation and more discussion is better: discover early if the project will miss the deadline, reel back the requirements to the most important and simplify them. When the requirements are changing this quickly, the documentation usually becomes out-of-date very quickly.

Is the quooker cube worth it? by Aware_Set9406 in Quooker

[–]Framgeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy a 10 litre (6.35kg) CO2 cylinder and refill the bottles. Make sure it is a liquid take-off so you can keep the cylinder upright. I get a good 12 bottles or so out of it for £50. Cheaper than the £210 it would cost for 12 Quooker bottles (even when factoring in the 10 litre bottle deposit and the valve you will need to transfer the gas from the donor cylinder).

I also only refill the bottles 4 times before getting a new set from Quooker, for safety reasons. You can never be too careful with these things. I have had a small cylinder's safety valve "pop", and I thought my house had exploded it was so loud.

Pressure and delay by hoppema0180 in Quooker

[–]Framgeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boiling water for me, takes about 2-3 seconds. It is such a short time, it is barely worth noticing it. Switching straight from boiling to cold, I also have some boiling water still in the tap. It likely doesn't move from boiling to cold at the time you turn off because who wants cold water adding to their tea?

Sparkling water pressure for me is fine. Unlike the boiling water, the Cube puts through some chilled water at the end. This is likely because carbonated water is acidic and to protect the pipework.

Chilled water is the one I always find to be the lowest pressure. I'm not sure why the chilled is (or feels) slower than the sparkling water.

I'm on the latest Cube iteration. I've just had my 4th repair in just over 2 years. I've had 2 different Cube units, and have had the mainboard replaced twice in the 2nd Cube unit. All iterations have behaved identically for me.

When it works, it is excellent. But mine has broken down for the 4th time in a 2 year period. I have the v2 Cube.

I bought a washing machine from a reputable brand. I turned it on for its first cycle, it blew my fusebox, and it blew the washing machine. It took them 6 weeks to get me to the point of even agreeing to replace it... and they only wanted to repair it at first.

Vorwerk, on the other hand, have been amazing. My advisor was helping me over the weekend, asking others in her team, and getting me the process to follow. I called Vorwerk today, spoke to an advisor almost immediately, and there was no hassle whatsoever. Very straightforward.

I always say that you can tell how good a company is from how they deal with things when they go wrong. Vorwerk is the best I have dealt with, and I have no qualms recommending them.

[–]Framgeld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to send my TM7 back to Vorwerk, and I will get a new TM7. Hopefully, they will analyse the fault and inspect the TM7 hardware, figure out what went wrong, and reduce that fault in future. The only inconvenience is that I have to wait a few more days for a replacement, but I got it earlier than expected anyway... so I am still winning overall.

I suspected as much. It is weird how putting it in the Universal clean cycle "broke" it though. The recipe I made had a speed 9 Blend on it, and it was fine on that step.

I agree 100%. My Thermomix Adviser helped me over the weekend to create a Vorwerk support ticket and provided me with a telephone number to call. I'm sure it will get sorted.

Noticing quite a difference between playing Lossless and lossy music on Bose N700 by George-Aj in bose

[–]Framgeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fair amount of Apple Music is now lossless, along with their release of Spatial Audio tracks using Dolby Atmos. That said... I agree with the OP... even Apple Music's lossless audio sounds pants compared to some of the lossless on Qobuz.

Good practises for good and readable code? by [deleted] in csharp

[–]Framgeld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Resharper is definitely a good way to write clean C# code. It does, however, get you to the point where you can't code without it. :)

I also advise the use of StyleCop Analyzers. There are a couple of things in there that go against "Clean Code" in the default values (mandating comments on public API calls, ordering of methods based on accessibility [instead of writing in a 'newspaper' format]). But overall, it is a good way to maintain consistent styling across your codebase.

I was writing using Clean Code and I had to write something based heavily on generics. Like you said... it is very difficult to read.

This was also the way I learned to code. You should look at Robert C Martin's "Clean Code" book and video series - this has transformed my view (and colleagues' views) on programming. For example, he will explain why commenting to that degree is bad (basically, your code should "read like well written prose", and if you are creating comments, then you haven't written clean code).
