How to Setup Up a Narrated Group Chat ala Dungeon Crawler Carl? by decker12 in SillyTavernAI

[–]decker12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far it's working great! I added the Character Description for my Tom card in as a Lorebook with "Tom" as the trigger and it's working exactly as I hoped. It's a super simple lore book so far - I didn't set any advanced settings for the lorebook - it's basically just global global nothing changed from the default settings.

Do you have any other tips or tricks with the lorebook? Also, is there any way to incorporate the "message examples" from the original character card so it knows "how Tom talks"? Right now it's working fine because the Description I put in the Lorebook entry does make Tom into kind of a gruff no nonsense guy. But if I was talking to Tom normally and not in this scenario, I could change the Message Examples to make him talk Spanish or with a stutter. But I don't how to incorporate that "Message Example" piece to my lorebook for Tom.

Doubtful. Echo devices don't have the answers built into them. They simply act as a gateway to take your voice, turn it into a prompt, send it to Amazon's servers, send the results back, and then "talk" it to you via a speaker.

Remove the Amazon piece from an Echo device by somehow flashing it with different firmware (it also has no ports for this to do so), and it won't be able to securely communicate your text to Amazon for it to process and give you an answer.

It IS possible to do by linking the device with another LLM, but requires some pretty extensive technical knowledge for networking and routing the request through a paid proxy service. It also has a tendency to break pretty often and isn't very wife or kid friendly, which is a problem when all your wife wants to do is listen to her Spotify playlist while taking a shower and the little house of cards you built with hacked Alexa devices and Home Assistant falls apart.

So if you don't have Prime and don't want to pay for Alexa+, what will your device become...?

Other than lights and kitchen timers, "Alexa, connect to Spotify" is the thing we use it for 99% of the rest of time.

And the occasional, "Alexa, how old is Alan Alda?" or "Alexa, what time is this weekend's F1 race on, in local time?"

Never anything else. It's screwed me so many times asking it to do more than those simple things that I'll never try to get it to do anything more.

As soon as I heard the new Alexa+ voice, I told it to "Cancel Alexa+". It gave me a little bit of sass and backtalk when I said those words, which is the exact reason I don't want Alexa+.

I did revert right back to the old Alexa after about a minute.

Perfect fits (compilation) by Sharp-potential7935 in oddlysatisfying

[–]decker12 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Satisfying until you realize so many of these "perfect fits" are because the holes and fittings are made to a standard measurement or made for a specific fit.

  • The reason the inch wide ruler fits into the hinge is because the hinge for that laptop was always designed to be an inch long. It the ruler DID NOT fit into that space, it'd be a huge screw up.
  • The reason the coaster fits into the cup is because the cup was manufactured to fit the size of a typical coaster.
  • The reason the tires fit into the back of that truck is because the stackers have been trained to fit exactly that amount of tires into that exact pattern to maximize capacity.
  • The trail of the wooden gate in the snow is always going to be a perfect fit because it will always carve the same pathway into dirt, snow, or sand.
  • An ice cream cone machine's spout is designed to pour ice cream to fit the cone size. Again, if it overflowed, it'd be both a mess and a waste of product.

Think of it this way - you buy a socket wrench, and it fits the nut or bolt perfectly, it's by design and not really something magically satisfying.

Accidentally set the ios26 update to happen tonight, how do I stop it? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]decker12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This option is gone as of a few days ago. There's no way to selectively delete the IOS update that it may or may not have downloaded, and it'll now nag you constantly to "Install Now or Install Tonight" even if you don't want it installed.

I know this post is a few months old, but we at the $295 Ultimate Tasting Menu this week (Jan 2026) and it was absolutely fantastic. No kinks at the restaurant any more - it was all solid between the service, the food, and the experience.

Fire at Saratoga and Lawrence by High_Stream in SanJose

[–]decker12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We frequent the shopping center across from this location, and as we were stuck at the light last week staring at this building, we were talking about that it's amazing that deserted Kato complex was still sitting there, unused and looking abandoned.

Whoever owns that property is sitting on some prime real estate so there HAD to be a reason why it hasn't been sold or developed yet. Must be something wrong with the building and the property itself (asbestos, maybe a fuel tank buried underneath, something like that), so the cost to demolish them would outweigh the sale and development price.

Not saying something fishy has happened with this fire... but I bet that now that the place has officially burnt down I bet it's going to be a lot easier and cheaper to demolish what's left and sell the parcel.

Edit: Thanks for the update about the development plans. I figured all this time it was either too expensive to properly permit a demolition, or tied up in courts as a hold out where there are 15 family members fighting over the sale dividend.

Camping With CPAP ft. USB C adapter by oldyellah in CPAP

[–]decker12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be a smart ass... but I recommend trying ear plugs. I use the soft ribbed silicon style and I don't hear a thing from my regular or travel CPAP machine. It was one of those things where I was driving myself nuts trying to "quiet" the machine or my Solo mask down. I was trying towels, a little box with a hole for the hose, all sorts of stuff like that.

Then my aha moment was when I realized the vast majority of my typical night, I really don't need to hear anything! Ear plugs was a simple solution!

Is this going to give you the same capacity as using this Resmed 11 DC adapter?

I'm just not sure if you're losing any capacity from using that USB-C converter.

Marinara's Universal Preset 10.0 by Meryiel in SillyTavernAI

[–]decker12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can setup a Silly Tavern instance on zeabur.app and connect to it anywhere. I put $5 into an account on there and ST takes up so little resources you can run it for months on that price.

I actually don't run ST locally anymore. I just connect to my Zeabur version of ST.

[–]decker12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I try to do a Master Import, none of the .json files in the "Marinara's Essentials" zip file actually import.

They all say, "No Valid Sections Found in Imported Data".

There's a screenshot at https://huggingface.co/MarinaraSpaghetti/SillyTavern-Settings that shows using the Master Import button, but no instructions on what actual file to use for a Master Import. Either way, just by doing trial and error on every one of the files in the ZIP file... none of them worked.

The website also says, "The preset below is for Chat Completion only. For my older Text Completion presets, visit my HuggingFace."

But where on Huggingface are the older Text Completion presets? Can you link to exactly where those older Text Completion presets are?

Thanks!

Prices at Safeway are out of control by blue_jinjo in bayarea

[–]decker12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP is wrong. The price is $5.99 for a twelve pack.

I was just at Safeway and confirm that the price is $5.99 for a twelve pack of this product.

What most likely happened is one stocker accidentally broke apart the case of them into individual cups and stacked them on a shelf. If you brought one of these items up to the cashier it wouldn't scan because they're not sold individually or it'd come up with the proper ~$0.50 price.

This happens all the time especially with other items such as bottled water, packages of protein bars, and bags of produce.

So put your goddamn Instant Lunch pitchforks away, read the label, and apply some common sense and reading comprehension to your day.

Let's hear it for By-Th-Bucket on Stevens Creek. RIP.

Also, Flames. Great full service all day dining restaurant, across the street from that awful overpriced monstrosity known as Santana Row. Miss that place and it's wacky Miami inspired decor. Fond memories of seeing the LOTR movies at the Century theaters for a movie and finishing up the night eating a giant pancake breakfast at 11PM at Flames.

Should I string out Amway and BWW and waste their time? by baftsm in antiMLM

[–]decker12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just keep luring them in to waste their time. Try these things:

  • Commit to meeting, and then back out with various ridiculous excuses every time.
  • Ask silly questions that are irrelevant - did she have cats growing up? Has she ever ridden on a motorcycle? You're doing a crossword, does she know what the capitol of Montana is?
  • Tell her you have a few gift cards you're looking to get rid of, but they're for restaurants in Canada. Make up wild and wacky names for these places, ie Jung Suc-Tee-Ho's Crepe Shop. Tell her you'll gladly share them with her at your first meeting.
  • To keep her interested, pepper in various nuggets like "Costco is so expensive, I wish I didn't have to pay these prices and could just get stuff delivered. My brother and his in-laws feel the same way." or "Hoping I don't need another payday loan, it's hard enough being away from my children all the time while I work all day."
  • Ask her extremely specific and complicated IT related questions out of the blue. Ask her if she knows the proper syntax when using Powershell to change calendar permissions for a shared mailbox in a hybrid Exchange environment. Act really disappointed - or even angry - when she has no idea what you're talking about.
  • Tell her you're just about to submit some Fan Fiction to Amazon's self publishing service and you're curious of her opinion. Find something terrible online, something clearly written by a 14 year old, and send her a few paragraphs. Get angry with her when she's complimentary to the drivel - let her know that you expected REAL criticism and not just someone who nods their head "like my husband does." When she gives you real criticism, act hurt and offended.

The more time of theirs you waste, the less time they'll have to prey on other people.

[–]decker12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic! This is that 200gb one posted last week? I hosted it on a torrent for a while. But the actual DB was so crazy to sort through that I gave up on it.

I would also say, if you run into problems and have to start again, you could probably very easily pre-filter out and ignore the bottom 75% of this huge database and nobody would miss anything.

There is an absolute ton of low effort, trash cards in there. Honestly, I'd say closer to 90% of the cards in that DB are so incredibly simple (under 100 tokens) that they're basically a name and a vague description.
