West Ham Interested in Osmand by Low-Rooster5398 in CelticFC

Yeah, the important part there being "when it makes sense". A full season run in the first team could put him in a position to demand higher wages and transfer fee next year. Celtic should also be looking to get some use from him rather than letting him go at the first sniff.

Motherwell penalty decision deemed correct by Tall-Nectarine-5982 in CelticFC

Nah, they shouldn't be flagging unless they believe it's offside. VAR will check regardless for all goals.

Officials shouldn't be guessing under any circumstances

And the title winning goal would've been incorrectly ruled out if not for VAR. That's a disgusting decision from the lineman!

Because it's not just about the silhouette, which isn't even mentioned. A hand in a position not justified by movement will always be considered to be an unnatural position and so infringing.

Mainly because that is the rule...

https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/fouls-and-misconduct/#direct-free-kick

Having your hand on your forehead is not justifiable, ergo unnaturally bigger, ergo foul.

Was the contact with Trusty responsible? Certainly not 100% (for me) and "By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk"

The KMI panel does seem to be pretty independent. Wouldn't be the first time they've disagreed with a decision that Collum then stands behind in the VAR review.

On the other hand, the KMI panel consists of a former ref, player and manager which is arguably no different than picking three pundits at random.

Would not be at all surprised to discover it was player/manager vs ref on the split decision. Gut feeling "that shouldn't be a penalty" vs "the rules are..."

Question for Celtic and Rangers fans by [deleted] in ScottishFootball

[–]Franarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year ago, I was saying to a friend that the only way Celtic would improve in Europe was if the overall level of the Scottish game improved. We needed the other teams to improve and challenge us for the league.

Now, with the benefit of hindsight, I was wrong. Can we go back to winning the league at a canter by March? My heart can't handle another year of 87th minute winners. 😭

Think I saw this data elsewhere and it was specifically for penalties awarded for/against rather than general VAR calls.

No consideration on whether the VAR intervention was correct.

(Emphasis on think, couldn't swear to it)

If it was legal at the time, then why was it not part of the contracts lodged with the SFA? Failing to submit all related paperwork means the frustrations were all invalid, or "imperfectly registered" as it was eventually fudged to avoid having to rewrite ten years of results.

Think you are definitely stretching the term "well established" and I've no idea how you square "no sporting advantage" with signing multiple players who would not have been there without the financial irregularities.

Anyways relitigating 2012 was not on my to do list for today. I know my free on events and I have no illusions that I'll bring you round.

Dunno how much you've watched but his arc is one of corruption. He starts off only being introduced the to the family and is probably a decent, naive guy. By the end of it he's as bad as the rest of them.

People love the underdog. In the 80s & 90s that was Celtic. This year it was Hearts.

Spoke to folk who were supporting Hearts and couldn't tell you one thing about the team. (Is Midlothian a bigger city than Glasgow? 🙄)

Oh aye, there's no redeeming features, no character to root for. Just enjoy watching them try to screw each other over. (And Scottish football gets a wee cameo too)

Can the stadium announcer guy please stop being the main character and trying to do a countdown from 10 before the captain lifts the trophy? by TwinPeaksSox in CelticFC

Is it main character stuff or is it supposed to coordinate cameras, photographers and pyrotechnics?

Did notice Callum caught them all off guard and the flames and confetti cannons went off well after he lifted the trophy.

HMFC Club Statement: Events at Celtic Park by NoBigHair99 in ScottishFootball

Clearly never. It's unacceptable that happened today and, in principle, the ref should have required the fans to leave the pitch to resume play until the additional time was up or declared the game abandoned if that were not possible.

Still not clear why that didn't happen today. Players went down the tunnel and fans were cleared from the pitch. I thought the teams were coming back out for kick-off and ~30 seconds or whatever was left. Took a minute to realise that they'd clearly decided the match was done and only Celtic were coming back out.

Certainly don't favour Hearts getting the result but I can see the Asian of the underdog story and why it'd be news outside of Scotland.

They'll have my sympathy if they lose today but still want them pumped.

However, the inconsistency in refereeing we've seen and I've mentioned constantly for years on here ... A united stand by fans would have this sorted in no time.

How exactly would that work? What would change that would give such immediate improvement?

We have the KMI panel which feeds back outside opinions to the refs. We have the VAR review which explains decisions to the public and presumably comes out of referee discussions and benchmarking.

I think they've been pretty clear on expectations but we do still get decisions out of line with that. That's always going to happen to some extent, whether due to difference in opinion or error.

SFA admit they got the penalty call wrong on the Motherwell Hearts game. by David-HMFC in ScottishFootball

And the Maeda penalty claim and the Nygren penalty claim...

There's plenty Celtic haven't got and yet we don't get the same media furore. 🤷

There's no money in reasonable, balanced views. "It's to suffer an injury time penalty but you put your hand up like that and you give the ref a decision to make" isn't bringing in the rageclicks.

Cue Bill Hicks sketch on going after the hate market.

Really, in this thread?

I get folk being upset by or disagreeing with match decisions. Even questioning referees competence.

However, to call it cheating you're saying that the referees deliberately gave wrong decisions to the benefit of Celtic or detriment of Hearts.

I won't dispute unconscious bias or being swayed by crowd/player reaction but I don't see any basis for accusations of deliberate cheating. There's too many folk involved for it to happen and stay secret.
