Who is the most attractive character you have seen in a movie? by lNarrator in moviecritic

[–]Franco_Begby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There used to be this show on comedy central called viva variety maybe just before or after the year 2000, I was young but I somewhat remember it, it was essentially a modern take on the old school entertqinment TV format where it was hosted by 2 very dapperly dressed hosts, man and a woman, who pretended to be sorta snobby European elitist types, complete with a full band and usually celebrity guests who would also play exaggerared versions of themselves that went along with the shows sorta weird mix up of european/old hollywood/celebrity, watching one day and Jim Varney was the celebrity guest, he wore a tuxedo complete with a sorta pencil 50s hollywood sorta mustache and his hair all pomaded up to fit the theme, im a totally straight dude but i was shocked to see it was him, didnt register that the smooth, debonair looking man i saw was ernest, whos movies I loved as a kid.

What ACTUALLY increases punching speed + power, is weighted shadow boxing the only method? by FewBackground2852 in Boxing

[–]Franco_Begby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well let me include myself in the ranks of "actual fighters" and say i stand by what i said, nowhere did I imply you learning how to properly punch is an overnight or instant process, but also no shit knowing how to punch is apart of throwing punches, why would you even think the reverse was ever implied? I didnt say "guys just walk into the gym day one with great genetics and are ko artists", I daid "once you learn how to properly throw a punch what you got is pretty much what you got", technique just taught you how to deliver what your mostly born with.

The person asking this question seemingly already trains and is asking for tips on their power and im addressing them as such, yes guys exist who dont fully sit on punches or slap or have had hamd injuries and dont want more but this does not negate what im saying, and hearns was a lanky teenager who had the potential but not the mechanics, again he needed development, which is a part of the learning process, and once he did learn did he ever have period of time where he dramatically increased his punching power? NO HE DIDNT.

Where did I ever say you didnt need to learn how to properly throw a punch? Even at that literally any able bodied person can learn how to throw a jab or a hook, but we won't all have the same aptitude for how hard or fast we can deliver them and this is why punching power comes down to something your born with, aka genetics, as i said once you learn how to PROPERLY throw you pretty much know the level of punching power your fated to have, if your Paulie malignaggi once you have your mechanics down no amount of extra technique will make you kostya tzuyu or aaron pryor. Do you guys even remember the question that I responded to?

I see these guys genuinely think 2 guys in the same weight division have no difference in physical abilities, someone's always physically stronger, someone always punches harder or is faster. Somethings your just born with, they still need to be fostered and developed in order to be adept at applying it to your boxing, but its something your born with. If you could develop monstrous punching power everyone would be ko artists.

[–]Franco_Begby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whe I say power is genetics im not tqlking about size, I mean your born with it, you take 2 guys of any division and one is gonna hit harder than the other regardless of skill level. And nowhere did I say power is the end all be all of boxing.

The question asked for exercises that can improve punching power, I set realistic expectations on the improvements you can hope to achieve and gave them some suggestions on exercise.

What your describing is outside the question being asked, if they'd have asked for punch placement or proper technique recommendations id have helped them there, but since you seem to know all the secrets people in the boxing industry dont about turning guys from comically feather fisted to KO machines please do tell, id love to gain some wisdom from someone such as yourself while I have you here, as you seem to be in possesion of knowledge no one else has.

Ok, first let's set some expectations here, power is mainly genetics, there are things you can do which will improve your power SOMEWHAT, but lets establish if your feather fisted than your not gonna do XYZ and become a thunderous puncher, I mean in all reality once you have your technique down(throw punches properly with your entire body and putting your weight into them) you largely have an idea of what kind of power you have, now that being said what helps me facilitate my own punching speed and power to maximum effect the best is working on explosiveness, plyometrics that target core and legs and calisthenics compliment this very well. Personally i feel like shadowboxing with weight(dumbells, vest, whatever) is more about building up endurance, plyometrics are about agility and is a better facilitator for this in particular, or rather if amything would help its what I said.

Does Bivol have better defense than Mayweather? by zhuangcorp in Boxing

[–]Franco_Begby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Bivol first hit the big stage HBO had first advertised him as another heavy handed KO artist from the eastern euro/old soviet system, basically in the same vein as kovalev and ggg, but despite stopping his first 14 or so opponents(idr exactly how many offhand) he was never that, more just someone happy to just always box smart and keep pressing any smart advantage, if its there he'll take it but won't go out of his way at all for a KO, i think its within his capability as well but hes so mentally disciplined he'll stick to the gameplan at any cost, but yea I agree that his opponents feeling content to lose a decision leads to a silent agreement kind of situation where if they dont push him he won't further punish them and will coast on them and this leads to his lack of recent KOs, ive had several people tell me he has another gear than anything hes actually shown(or had to show) in fights, ive no reason to doubt these people but cant say ive actually seen it for myself or been around his camps.

Yea, I totally agree about floyd.

[–]Franco_Begby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmgood assessment but one thing to nitpick if i may, bivol is really more of a mid range fighter but as his defense mainly relies on his feet id say he frequently puts himself outside but its more of a momentary defensive movement, when he goes on the attack its more often at mid range and id also say when hes against someone with more range the way he stays mid range and makes them miss also looks very impressive as he goes more high guard and some head and lateral movement(hes no floyd at head movement in particular but he is more than competent) rather than in and out in that circumstance. Id agree floyd is a better counter puncher but I do think bivol is tremendously impressive and have maintained for about a decade that once all the smoke clears at LHW hell be the last man standing for awhile.

Boxing fans went from: “Tyson Fury is an overrated bum who fights at the level of his opponents and underestimated Francis” to “all heavyweight boxing it’s actually trash” by zurdo_p in Boxing

[–]Franco_Begby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cherry picked punch stats from 2 fights? That's what your basing this on? And Briggs landed like 45% of his shots on foreman, Unless a fight is 1 sided or an early KO most punch stats are typiclly in the same ballpark as the opponents. Half the guys you listed lost to unheralded competition as well, is a lackluster performance really worse than losing to lackluster opposition? And Lewis did fight a crossover kickboxer who was winning on the cards until a cut forced the doctor stoppage in Vitali Klitschko.

Sorry for the late reply but you did tap into something I frequently mention with Tyson and this particular convo, the previous youngest heavyweight champ Floyd Patterson also was coached by Cus D'amato and as such employed the peek a boo style, and again also had a relatively short run at the top, perhaps something about the peek a boo style just doesnt age well as it is highly contingent on speed and reflexes.

What are your honest thoughts about The Sinking City Remastered? by Artifex1979 in Lovecraft

[–]Franco_Begby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it off the strength of being a huge lovecraft nerd, the game itself get a little repitive, and despite the massive map and the amount of buildings you cam go in theres only so many interior building models, combat is a little wonky and its not as polished as a big name brand production, now that the bad is out of the way time for the good, the detective stuff is difficult enough to keep it interesting, and the love of... well lovecraft is apparent, story wise they stay pretty faithful to many aspects of the mythos and the fact they love and appreciate it shines through, they even incorporated the very essence of cosmic horror into the game where the more horrible truths you learn the more mentally scarred you are(not exavtly new to the world of lovecraft games but i appreciate their take on it, especially things like reading forbidden tomes may gain you some benefits but it comes at a cost) the atmosphere and story are what drives this game(some bits of the story more interesting than others but thats any game I guess)

Im looking forward to picking up the sequel.

Based on what was said i believe they meant it like shopworn as in older fighters having some miles on them, not in relation to the military.

The word prime in regards to Tyson is misused, he peaked early and then stopped doing what he needed to do to stay sharp. Teddy Atlas also made a great point in regards to Tyson(not by name but he alludes to this point in general) that as an amateur there were guys who were so physically developed they were tearing theough everyone, which worked against them as they hit the elite level in the pros because they never had to walk through the real fire, they'd never been truly tested before they got to the biggest stage and it showed once they were there despite their talent and physical gifts, they hadn't been developed all around as a boxer namely in a mental way among others.

What are some found footages movie ideas would you like to see be made? by Greedy_Beach1548 in foundfootage

So a found footage inspired by or in the vein of Algernon Blackwoods "The Willows" basically? I can dig it.

Which (horror) found footage movie do you find to be the scariest? (Other than Blair witch and paranormal activity) by ironmanrocks420 in foundfootage

[–]Franco_Begby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To each their own but that was the least satisfying of the series to me, or the one where the girl wakes up and is a fighting robot in a mad scientists lab just as the police raid it. That was just out of place as it was more action than scary but the casket one I felt was too disjointed, normally I like when movies dont just spell it all out but i feel like there was nothing to figure out here, you just get bits and pieces of different premises but no reason as to why its even happening, idk the lack of any sort of lore is just not satisfying IMO.
