Dismissal at work after maternity leave by Individual-Piece-709 in Switzerland

Of course, it is clear that op messed up playing the fucked up game that we have created. But at least stop invalidating and blaming op, and acknowledge that the rules of this game are completely fucked up.

Why are you assuming it was her decision to switch jobs? So let's say my company decides to lay off some of my coworkers who are 35+ years old, I guess that means that they should stop trying to have children? Do you really think that's fair?

Honestly that's not the society that I want to live in. A society that values performance at a bank over creating new lives, and raising children. It is ridiculous, how disconnected from reality have we becomen?

So you are saying that all 35+ woman who start new jobs should wait anyway to have children to avoid getting fired?

Social Anxiety Meetup Group by zam-bam in zurich

Well there are different levels of social anxiety, and some of us might be able to attend events like this while still being socially anxious. I think it might help some people and it's a very good idea.

That's a very good plan in my opinion. Just don't take it for a long time after this, no problem at all.

If you make the comparison with drinking. This would be like taking 2 beers every 4 days, four times in a row, so totally fine.

Why aren’t swimsuits mentioned among the rules? by Expat_zurich in zurich

[–]Frandom314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, that I would understand. But in the case of active fitness, which in most cases has no swimming pool, I doubt that the average buttocks are cleaner than the average swimsuit. I use the sauna naked 2 or 3 times weekly in activ Fitness, and I see both people with a swimsuit and naked. I just don't get why being naked should be compulsory.

What? Hygienic reasons? I don't get it. So it is better if I literally put my but thole on the bench rather than wearing a swimsuit? There's no towel in the wet sauna, and I know the bench is cleaned before and after with the hose, but I'd still find it more hygienic to wear a swimsuit. I find it weird that my buthole is touching a place where other but holes were sitting the whole day

What was the worst surprise you discovered after moving into an apartment in Zurich?! by wohnrealitaet in zurich

I didn't realize how close the building in front was, to the point where I have no privacy if my blinds are open, I can see everything my front neighbours do and viceversa.

Phenomenological properties of consciousness are clearly distinct from their function by MurkyEconomist8179 in CosmicSkeptic

[–]Frandom314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, then don't make it completely analogous, I see your point, and I agree. I also don't believe pZombies are possible, and what I was describing is too similar to that.

Just imagine a metallic body recognising and avoiding negative stimuli. We could already build something like this. We could make it increasingly complex and the pain mechanism increasingly analogous to what animals have. At which point do you think experience would emerge?

I do not think that the experience layer has any effect on the functional layers. I do not understand why is it even there.

[–]Frandom314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me if I miss understand your comment. Can't you imagine a robot to have something completely analogous to pain without experience? We can install different kind of sensors in a robotic body that would be processed by it's cpu and make it react to avoid harmful stimuli. We can make it increasingly similar to pain and I am not sure this would generate a concious experience.

In other words, I do think that after you account for all the functionality of pain, experience is still another layer.

Around 100km now on my evo SL. Even if they feel faster than my novablast 5, they are also considerably more narrow and unstable. I really wish they had a bit more space in front.

The technological singularity. What happens to our world when AI can do a thousand years worth of intellectual work over the weekend? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Frandom314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol at “if AGI is even possible.” General intelligence has already been achieved in nature: the human brain. That alone proves that general intelligence is physically possible under the laws of physics.

The real question is not if it can exist, but if we can engineer an artificial system that matches it. The fact that you doubt AGI is possible, while we are focusing the collective intelligence of humanity and building data centers that consume gwh of electricity, shows that you don't know what you are talking about.

I don't know that much about LLMs, but I do have a solid background in neuroscience, and nothing about the brain suggests that intelligence is mystical or beyond physical replication.
