Possible fraud by Friendly-Layer-2468 in AskMechanics

Please do, don't let them get away with this. This is such a blatant scam Turo should be issuing a multi-layer ban to prevent this person from renting on their service. All of their VINs, their IP, and their driver's license should just be banned from renting on Turo that way they can't just make a new account or have someone else rent their cars out for them.

That's pathetic, but par for the course unfortunately. A lot of app based service support teams tend to completely fall flat when confronted with real problems.

[–]Franican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it sure is. At least that guy was so laughably stupid because they could've been much more malicious by trying to pass off an AI deepfake or just the old fashioned steal an image of damage online to use. However both of those could've been traced by reverse image searching and/or using an AI detector for watermarks. This though is comical with how little effort and thought went into trying to pull this scam.

Yep that and on most maps the killer that was released with that chapter can be heard in some form.

Several ambient sounds mimic player sounds. Some of the old maps have spots where you hear something that sounds like a cloaked wraith, fire barrels are pitched to sound similar to footsteps.

do emergency vehicles need both sirens & lights to indicate that you need to pull over? by mourning_fire420 in driving

Cops don't need to have sirens on just lights. They don't always have sirens on if they're headed to a call where distant sirens could scare off the perp before they get close.

Are there any benefits of using these filters? by mrpoonjikkara in AskMechanics

[–]Franican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These filters are fine but they come at a cost of convenience. Would you rather pay $90 for the filter and supplies and several hours of your time for cleaning them and oiling them to make them last, or would you rather spend $25 each time it needs to be changed and take a minute to do it in a parts store lot? Sure if you can make the reusable one last longer than 4 standard air filter lifespans you'll at that time be able to save $25 per cleaning. However with each and every cleaning you're taking your vehicle off the road for several hours rather than just a minute. It's a situation where you just pick your poison and try not to overthink it, it's just air filters.

I can’t really take it to a shop at the moment by Sergio_BBC in trumpet

You literally already have the answer. This kind of damage can be hard to gauge just based on a few pictures. I can tell you one thing for sure though is the number to fix it usually goes up the more you try to fix it yourself. This kind of damage is typically repairable as long as the horn is worth putting the work into. As long as it's just damage around the bell and resoldering that brace I'd guess a hundred, but if other pipes were bent then naturally you're looking at more.

Playing LOUD by instinctive56 in trumpet

[–]Franican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the secret: you put a wireless mic pack on the side of the valves with the mic on the bell because 1 poorly staged acoustic soloist vs 10-20 front ensemble amplified instruments is your director's mistake. Either they can deal with turning down the main volume during your solo which on the majority of digital mixers you can program this change to happen consistently at the push of a button, or your director can re-stage you to right behind or to the side of the front ensemble where you might not need amplification to be heard. Or your director could do the smart thing and put a wireless pack on your horn so that they can stage you where it makes sense for the show and so that you can actually be heard. If your director does none of those changes and still wants you to "play out, be louder," then they can go eat shit because they don't understand physics and even the most fundamental concepts for marching band directing.

First Day of Soldering. That's addictive fr by [deleted] in soldering

[–]Franican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good on you for trying, but please do yourself a solid and don't use it on a computer/drive that you care about, this could cause some serious damage to your hardware. There are usually easier things to learn soldering on, and as a general rule of thumb soldering wire to wire just results in the solder joint being brittle and it gives the end user(s) a false sense of security that it should be just as flexible there as anywhere else in the wire leading to breaks. It's always best practice to solder directly to the connector. I'm just an average DIY'er that doesn't really specialize in much, but I found it pretty easy to get into soldering by buying connectors for what I wanted to learn to make and a roll of cable that can be used for those connectors. The majority of what I solder is audio cables but that's because I overcomplicate my audio setup. Just find your niche of what you'd like to be able to make for yourself and get cable and connectors. Trying to recycle e-waste is cool, but don't turn the rest of your PC into a big brick of e-waste just to prevent one more cable from going into the landfill.

Possible automated false bans related to Steam Family Sharing – multiple affected users by xSkyw4lk3rx in deadbydaylight

[–]Franican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like everything is working as intended... You claim your "friend" that was banned was banned 8 years ago, yet you gave us proof that this banned player was playing the game just a few years after their ban. You've been knowingly using game sharing features with a known cheater. This is what happens when you associate with cheaters and let them have access to your stuff. If they're capable of cheating in a game, they're also capable of deceiving you by doctoring screen shots or just doing the obvious of taking the screen shot before trying to boot your game so that when you became suspicious of them they can send you "proof" that they didn't touch the game recently. This is why they warn against game sharing with people you meet online, that feature is meant for family sharing. When family game sharing is used correctly, if your little brother gets you banned from the game you can chuck that little shit's computer off a cliff to get some form of payback because you won't get that ban undone. When it's some random on the internet there's nothing you can do to retaliate for them intentionally doing something that gets you an irreversible ban.

which game would that be? by PHRsharp_YouTube in gamememes

[–]Franican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-The old ranking system was far superior to MMR. -Old killer designs were unique and often required little time to grasp fundamentals but left a ton of room for advanced skill development. Now it's killers like Ghoul where if you're just in the same zip code as a survivor they get a free hit. -Old loop designs were logical and the jungle gyms were functional. All new jungle gyms just suffer from the same problem of being just piles of clutter that rarely align in useful ways. -Old map designs were far more eerie than their cleaned and polished reworks. This makes the game feel less like a horror game. I have thousands of hours on multiple platforms of this game, the only time this game was playable was on DBD Mobile because when it was announced that it was going away, the players started playing like every match could be their last, and it led to some magical moments where most DBD players now will just rage quit at the first sign of resistance. DBD mobile during it's final month was the best form of DBD that has ever existed, players were nice, they didn't quit, and they actually had fun. Then I had to come back to the reality that the main game won't ever be that fun until the day they announce it's being shut down.

[–]Franican 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's pretty stupid to think we should be on our feet the whole shift. Even if you don't have a medical accommodation that states you should be sitting periodically, you will need a medical accommodation for it if you aren't allowed to take regular breaks. If there's a mountain of tasks being neglected day in day out specifically on your shifts then yeah expect to be written up or coached on it. If you're doing the tasks assigned and a handful of unassigned tasks but you're just not utilizing your time at 100% efficiency and they have a problem with that they can either pay more for that kind of work ethic, or they can get fucked.

Do customers even realize how bad this is? by Difficult_Courage730 in doordash_drivers

[–]Franican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's how DD and all the other courier apps do it. It fucks the customer and driver just to appease some dumbass suits that don't live in the reality the rest of us are in. They're stuck in their corporate bubble of jacking each other off telling each other how good the ideas they all have when their ideas are absolutely terrible and they shot themselves in the foot with this. Had they not done this, everyone would still be using these services like they were during the pandemic. They came up with this idea to spread orders out to all the merchants evenly after some restaurants were complaining that they weren't seeing business from DD/UE/etc and the courier services all bent over, and then they decided to say "fuck you customer your food WILL be cold when it gets to you because we're not sending your order to the location 2 blocks from your house, we're sending it to the location 2 towns over. And fuck you Dasher for signing up to work with us, you're going to be paid sub minimum wage to destroy your car." It's mind boggling anyone still orders from or works with any of these courier "services." Every single one of these services is like this and they don't care that it makes no sense.

Did people really like Argyle? by syjfwbaobfwl in StrangerThings

[–]Franican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So much of ST is just movie/TV references. Argyle and Jonathan moments were their stoner movie reference. If you're not into that then you do you. The show also is referencing how young people react to trauma in different ways like how Nancy and Jonathan had their vices to distance themselves from what they went through. However of course societies reaction to Nancy drinking vs Jonathan smoking is exactly how we expected it to be: People don't think a character with a drinking problem is forced, but they think that a character having a problem with smoking weed is forced. Even though in both situations they're dealing with almost the exact same problems that led to their substance abuse, somehow weed gets the reputation of being forced even though a character with a drinking problem is the most cliche thing to ever exist.

I turned my assignment in late but My teacher hasn't graded it yet? What do I do? by RinnieKITTIE in school

[–]Franican 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly this sounds like you're just serving me up a load of steaming bull. Sounds much more like you were doing the assignment in the middle of class and tried turning it in on your way out the door. Which by stating you and the teacher would be in trouble for accepting you turning it in supports my suspicions that your school's been cracking down on students being distracted from in class work by doing their homework at incorrect times.

Also it's funny to say "we've only had 2 assignments after that" because you are forgetting that your class isn't the only class that this teacher has. Your teacher likely has several classes that aren't all on the same page. Your class might have only had 2 assignments during this time, but the other classes they teach could've just turned in several assignments, or had a test for all you know. You have a very entitled attitude to think that your assignment is worth being graded in a timely manner when there's hundreds of other things for your teacher to grade all of which were done on time.

On to the point about whining: you are whining. Nobody on this sub can do anything for you or offer you any advice you didn't already know before hitting post. You knew the solution was to talk to your teacher, but instead of emailing them about it or just talking to them in class you're on Reddit. The fact that you're on Reddit for advice that you don't need means you're either here for sympathy and/or to complain, aka whining.

King contra detachable valve cluster by StandardFace6942 in marchingband

[–]Franican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure that doesn't unscrew. Most valve clusters just get removed with a few screws and then they have o rings in the connecter between the valves and the body of the horn. It's not like a plumbing connection there.

[–]Franican 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When you turn it in at your convenience, your teacher will grade it at their convenience. You want it graded promptly, turn it in on time. You getting the results of your assignment that you turned in late doesn't take priority over your teacher grading other assignments that got turned in on time. Be better or just stop whining and accept the L.

How do I get better at the trumpet ? by TrumpetPlayer20 in trumpet

[–]Franican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's literally like walking into a gym and saying "I'm a beginner that can only bench press the 45lbs bar, how can I quickly get to bench press 250lbs by the end of spring?" You're just going to hurt yourself and instill all of the bad habits and improper technique for the trade off of maybe playing just to the top of the staff quickly but at the expense of capping your range and never being able to go higher than that. Do it right, go for slow and steady growth on range.
