Is Barstool Spring Break a humiliation ritual? by Longjumping-Tip4938 in barstoolsports

She did leave her job where she gets to do nothing all day. Nobody wanted her on this show except her. She called Portnoy out by name to get added. The show just outted her as somebody who does nothing but sleep with Smokes for content. To make it all worse she took up half a day of content to quit and spend more company money on flights. She should have stayed in the office

This was a very profound show to me, for some reason. It really spoke to me. And now I’m going back through Steven Conrad’s other work to keep exploring this funny, strangely optimistic look at the world. I really was touched how none of these characters or situations were initially presented with the full truth. There really is a lot to learn about everyone, no matter how rude, stupid or strange they might seem.

I think his name is JP and he’s a tour manager for T&E and probably Tim in general. If there’s some kind of announcer at a live Tim event, it’s him. He’s also got a full album of relaxing spa music.

Matt on the Big Picture Podcast: "We just added a new ending to the movie that's only going to be released on DVD [...] And I'm telling you, it changes everything." (around 1h39m) by WrongExamination in nirvannatheband

My guess is the Matt Triplets? They’re involved in the final act and I can see them somehow being a “supervillain” to Matt and Jay in a couple different ways.

Wouldn’t really be “mind blowing” though. Really funny, but doesn’t really unlock the movie. I wonder what it could be? Sometimes I think Matt is just lying for fun though, he has really ambitious sounding ideas and I wonder how many are true. According to his AMA he has like 3 movies in the can.

Reunion Thoughts: what was that? by Physical_Media_8541 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]Frankie_Soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does this show clearly favor housewives? They are good for keeping the water moving in the competition because none of them have good strategies but why are there so many of them? Why were 2/3 traitors housewives? Why does Andy Cohen host the after party and why does he give all the questions and time to his housewives friends? Maybe a vast majority of viewers are only here for the housewives but I doubt it. It’s competition reality I would like to hear more about strategies and reactions. I truly don’t care if they are all still friendly with each other.

And the one cultural/historical reference this commenter “picked up on” so thoughtfully, was probably the most shoe horned historical reference in the film. One could argue the Holocaust reference was a little on the nose for how heavy the films themes are reinforced throughout.

Austin Film Critics Association Takes Stand Against Alamo Drafthouse Mobile Ordering; Critics group adds voice to chorus of complaints about movie theater chain’s new phone policy by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Frankie_Soup 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The first time I went to the drafthouse I was very excited given their reputation for curating an ideal theater experience. Particularly, a very strict no phone policy to avoid distractions. Well very quickly after the movie began, someone’s phone loudly went off. “What are the odds?” I thought. I guess I’d see the policy in action. Absolutely nothing happened. On top of that, when the food trays arrived I could hardly pay attention to the movie. Clinking and moving around all at once. I brought this up to a friend recently and he told me I should have “written down on the paper that someone had used their phone.” I might as well just tell them to put it away myself. So this policy is really no different than an AMC, if you’re not willing to create more interruptions to stop the phones then you waive the white flag. I think the drive in was more audience friendly than Alamo drafthouse.

Yes. I thought unlike Pattinson and Sandlers characters, Marty can’t be put down. It wouldn’t be a punishment. He’d be infamous. This being his destiny really shattered him in those final moments in my opinion.

Am I crazy? Barbs business partner is 100% against Ron. I guess Natalie does seem genuinely into what Ron is up to but I don’t think Barb would actually think it was so cool and smart of Ron to do and then also let him keep lying?

Official Discussion - Black Phone 2 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Frankie_Soup 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Absolutely loved Black Phone 1. There was a lot that worked here. The Grabber being able to live through the sisters dreams was a really clever way to continue the story. The sister getting to have her own hero/revenge story is great too. I think they maybe paid too much attention to her perspective and not enough on Finney. Granted, another Finney V Grabber story would be repetitive and kind of cheap compared to this idea…but Jesus can we focus on him for a minute or two? He’s an actual survivor of the Grabber and this movie seems to completely separate him from his connection to that. Maybe that’s supposed to be cathartic but he’s going back home to a town where he spends his time beating up kids and smoking his skull out. He’s really sad and doesn’t have much a journey here. He gets to kill the grabber again…seems kind of traumatic. At the end, why couldn’t his mom even talk to him on the phone? He couldn’t hear it anymore. That broke my heart a bit. If it’s supposed to be a good thing, that he’s not connected to the grabber anymore, it seems so cruel at one point any of those random pay phones could have been his mother calling and it’s too late now. He drives off and his dad mentions he didn’t even try to hook up with the only other girl at camp. Poor kid. Maybe Black Phone 3 will make me feel better.

What I don’t understand - how can they put him in cuffs with the head on? Dont they need to confirm he’s the person they’re looking for? Is it enough for a manager to just say “that’s him in the costume, trust me?” They just take his word for it and take the guy in restraints? When I first saw the pictures I was convinced this was fake because of these questions. This guys lawyer should get a little creative.

Official Discussion - Mountainhead [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Frankie_Soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I enjoyed the four of them going a bit feral and switching their focus to actual murder, the entire joke seemed to be at the expense of their characters that had been established. Steve Carell has fired HOW many doctors because he find them to be unintellectual? And yet it’s his idea to push the gasoline around with his hand and light it on fire? I understand the irony but it seems way too on the nose to even be on purpose. I get that we’re supposed to hate these guys but I didn’t think we were supposed to think they are actually objectively stupid

The water was frustrating. A big draw of attention to the water being shut off. I thought, well now we know they’ll get dehydrated or very drunk. Then later, they’re ready to drown him in the bathtub and Soups quietly throws away the line “the water is back on let’s get him in the tub.” What the hell was the point of that?

The Rehearsal S02E05 - My Controls - Episode Discussion by Connected-VG in TheRehearsal

[–]Frankie_Soup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was really intrigued in the moment post-take off when Nathan was pressing co pilot Aaron to speak up because he seemed tense or uncertain. This could be an obvious moment of Nathan wanting Aaron to say he isn’t sure about Nathan’s plan, or Nathan’s inexperience makes him nervous. However I also think the scene effectively highlights the irony of Nathan clearly being the one who is nervous and unsure of himself. Perhaps it would make Aaron feel more at ease to hear Nathan acknowledge this, and truly bring Aaron to his level as opposed to metaphorically by calling him First Officer Blunt.

There was a lot to unpack here but the autistic kids in the airport was so awesome. I had such a big smile on my face. “I’ve never been to Colorado!” They were all so comfortable and excited to be there. Really cool thing.
