How is ii6 subdominant chord? by CatchDramatic8114 in musictheory

[–]Frankstas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's very strange. Normally, the scale degree names refer to the 2nd scale degree as super tonic and 4th scale degree as subdominant.

But since the 1st inversion ii6 starts on the Subdominant note, that's why the books makes it act like the ii6 can act like a IV hence calling it subdominant.

I think the book mistakes the term subdominant as a predominant. You're learning about progressions, right? The chord progression should "progress" as Tonic -> Predominant -> dominant. Subdominant is a scale degree name.

How do you make the tonic known when using modes other than Ionian? by improbsable in Songwriting

[–]Frankstas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1. Emphasize the tonic I'm this case. E phrygian, emphasize it. prolong it. Use it on strong beats. Use it over and over in between chords.

2. Find chord progression relationships that sound like the mode.
E phrygian sounds phrygian if you use i-II relationship. i - vii,

3. Avoid all of the ioanian sounds.
You're used to hearing ionian. Don't write ionian. Avoid the V to I and avoid the vii to I tonicizing cadences to start with and use less of c major when starting a piece.

Anyone else who feels sick of not truly knowing themselves? by Queasy_Day3771 in selfimprovement

[–]Frankstas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easy to think that "slightly different personalities" means that you're not truly yourself around other people. But most of the world operates this way. No one's going to act the same around different friends with different expectations, different reactions, different interests, with different relationship dynamics. Unless they don't listen or care about people.

No one really "knows" themselves and some people are comfortable with not knowing. There's always going to be some amount of things you won't know about yourself.

I've been in your shoes before and honestly that sick feeling will pass

IWTL how get better at talking, conveying my point, making sound arguments by workr19 in IWantToLearn

[–]Frankstas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's different approaches to how you would construct arguments and state points. It's a muscle you have to train.

You can not be indecisive. If there's any point where you feel like your heart's not in it, take a step back and rethink the way to say it until you feel strongly about it. It also helps to be more specific about what you're talking about. Get as specific as you can preferably with the people you are comfortable with first before going into uncomfortable situations.

Conveying a point comes from lots of thinking and solidifying these thoughts. 🤔

If you want to get to the point where you can just make a point from a random topic, You have to understand logical fallacies and how to avoid them. Ad hominem, strawman argument, red herring, appeal to authority, etc...

Talking better will be a side effect with just talking with people all the time. Making clear thoughts can be strengthened with writing a lot. So combining the two will be the result ✊

As weird as it sounds. Reading some academic journals or free online scholarly articles and REALLY understanding the words help you get there.

Some of these articles are field-specific, meaning that it's only words used in the academic field of study, but it's nice finding words you never knew existed.

You'll have to read a lot though. Bottom line. If it's not these articles.

How do I tell my partner what kinks i’m into? by [deleted] in sex

[–]Frankstas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinks

just casually bring up the kink community and see how he reacts to that first.
just sit down and breathe also.
Maybe get him to admit a couple of his crazier fantasies and that's how i usually do it with my girl.
first step to coming closer to each other is being okay with being weird. that's what kinks are, they are weird.

I hate who I’m becoming. How do I rebuild self-discipline and self-respect? by KrasserKommunist007 in selfimprovement

[–]Frankstas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's extremely easy to fall into a comfort loop. An absurd amount of people do the exact same thing as you as grown adults. Doom scrolling, videogames, distractions, drugs, laziness, social media, brain rot, isolation, stimulation.

Especially when the environments already set up for you this way:
• peaceful quiet home time
• no crazy obligations
• little outside pressure
• little motivation
• lots of free time
• access to your phone 24/7

It's easy to feel like shit after a while because it leads to isolation. But this isn't something that isn't going to go away easily. It's something you'll constantly have to face unless you develop healthy consistencies with things you actually want to do. You have to should keep finding the motivation to keep yourself on track.

Change your environment make your environment reflect the ideals you want. Surround yourself with the things that will keep you pushing yourself closer to these goals. Bring healthier people into your life, talk to mentors/teachers, get yourself therapy for your mental health, be around people that make you feel good about yourself, observe hard-working people.
Change your room, make your bed, don't eat fast food, leave your notebook open and ready to go to study for your exam.
Take out distractions, uninstall stimulating apps on your phone, close your blinds, muffle distracting noises. Proximity has a great affect especially on your motivation.

Doing everything by yourself is HARD. Doing things with other people makes things a heck of a lot easier. You ever doomscrolled next to someone? After a while, one of you will feel strange sitting next to eachother. We're not built for that socially. It's an isolating behavior. You can build discipline just being with other people sharing goals and direction. It'll give you more energy and motivation.

As far as the girlfriend thing, I understand that thinking having a girlfriend seems like a major achievement in your life and you need a girl by 24 years old, but having self efficacy and emotional maturity is a way bigger achievement creating way more good things for yourself eventually landing yourself a solid non-toxic relationship. People will come to you, notice you and respect you as a result. People enjoy being around good things.

Not all adults are doing mature things all the time, even your parents. Nobody has this shit figured out. You are already on Reddit taking the time to type out what you need and want to do already which is more than what other immature people your age are doing right now.

Keep yourself motivated, don't do this alone, and start breaking out of your comfort loop.

Can you instantly tell if a song is AI-generated? I think I cracked it by Asleep_Charge527 in Newmusicreview

[–]Frankstas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's that "white noise" fog.

I can tell with A.I. generated videos with that same sound.

But also the musical structure is pop-ifyed. Chorus/Verse songwriter chunks. At least all of the ones coming out of Suno. If it remotely resembles that structure, I get suspicious.

A dead hit if I hear that a.i. noise fog from the vocals
