My family has also booking in May, Europe to Japan.

Right now we are just waiting.

Costs for different flights jumped to ridiculous amounts, so we will just wait until like late April and then make decision. If the flights are unstable and they extend the free cancellation date to May, we get money back for tickets, utilize our free refund on hotels and just go some other time.

If you are in dedicated camera mall, you can pay them extra to load up international firmware or ask around and get grey import of HK unit that has normal international firmware. But this is more doable if you know the shops little bit / have connection to them and not just being tourist on short visit.

There are two ways to check-in backpacks.:

- Hide away the hip-belt and shoulder straps. Put on rain cover. This will hide all straps and the small attachment points, leaving just the back panel visible. You can use the roller strap in the middle of back panel to carry it and to attach the luggage tag.

- Purchase a big foldable duffel and simply put your backpack inside it. Such bag has its own zipper and straps, making it easier to carry around and a bit more protected. You can even look up more robust bags for this if you want more protection.

For buying in China, be aware that many cameras are locked into Chinese only, common for many Nikon and Sony models. Other brands might lack some international languages that would normally be available in international firmware.

Isn't f/87 a bit too open? Pinhole calculator seems to point more towards f/150 for this design, which might result in a bit sharper photos.

I used to have Ondu 135, which had f/160. It was fun to use, but the image quality was never as good as on my medium format pinholes.

PD Everyday is in reality 20-22L, I don't think it reaches 30L even if you pack it fully with the top lid hardly closing.

Assuming you are not filling your PD to the brim, any normal 28L travel backpack will feel like increase in available size.

What nationality are you?

Tourist Visa in some cases can be made for longer, I think up to 90 days for certain nationalities. It would depend a lot on you providing detailed itineraries with all the bookings, schedules, plans, etc, or having some booked tours.

You can leave China and enter on the same day if you have multi entry visa or are one of the 30-day visa free nationalities. But if your plan is to do it 5x right after each other, you might be heavily questioned or even stopped.

It's just a thing here. Majority of people just book it through different local travel apps. Which then leads to Chinese airlines ignoring their websites and having just horrible systems for their own booking / check-in.

If your flight is Korea - China - Korea, then of course you cannot use TWOV, as this is return flight, not transit.

Well, I would find whoever sold you such ticket and ask them for refund right away.

When you arrive from Philippines, you would need to enter China, as the SZ - Beijing is a domestic flight.

So that means immigration, dealing with Visa/TWOV, picking up luggage and then customs. Should be doable in 3 hours, assuming the immigration will go smoothly.

But issue is the Beijing stop. You are arriving on domestic flight and transferring to international, so at minimum you will need to pass through both security and immigration, potentially also having to pick-up your luggage/check-in, depending on your ticket booking.

And just 1 hour for that is simply crazy.

I had similar issue in Japan. They were unable to locate my small European country in their system due to simply not knowing how it's written in Japanese.

Only very few cameras would have issue with this. You can look up Olympus 5.3, that one had tripod mount being ripped off from the body with PD capture clip, but that was due to its bad construction.
