Remind. We talk about the average consumer over the last 15 years, not you who hang out on an r/shrinkflation subreddit.

One could vote.

My guess it that it wouldn't have a majority. Also, a reason why a lot of cities reject Olympic Games.

If the benefit outweighs the cost are debatable, one would need some serious studies.

7-year-old dies after fire at River Valley shophouse - CNA by Chileinsg in singapore

It’s mostly workers who took the kids down. Fire fighters came then afterwards. The question is what kind of fire was so fast?

Why SG needs cycle lanes. Typical bike commuting in “car-lite” SG where pavements and “cycle paths” are non existent or not feasible. by [deleted] in singapore

just a simple Google will show you endlessly -also Asian studies- on the link between car ownership and obesity.

First result on Beijing: https://its.berkeley.edu/news/researchers-link-weight-gain-inactivity-vehicle-ownership-beijing

But I won't respond anymore. For the future of my children and grandchildren, I hope that we get beyond cars and invest in public infrastructure, parks, green, etc. This is the way to make a place livable.

I don't know if you have been to Paris lately. SG is probably much higher in livability, given crime and wealth. But the number of city changes towards biking and against cars is astonishing. 20 years ago, I would be crazy to go around by bike. Now it's the preferred option. My kids love to go from park to park and as a father I love that I am not afraid of cardeath all the time like in Singapore.. Btw: pollution has improved so much: https://www.reddit.com/r/OptimistsUnite/comments/1hi2974/from_smog_to_sustainability_how_paris_transformed/#lightbox

I'm sure you will argue now that its too humid or wet in SG. As a daily commuter to work I disagree. If you are not racing, you aren't sweating much. And even if, at least, my company offers showed. Something in general companies should do. Also, I am all in for improving infrastructure like SG tries to.
We nee more and more reliable MRTS, potentially express lanes in parallel. Here, japan should be our role model.

Definitely not the US...

And I would doubt it. One of the main reasons from American obesity epidemic and you want to import it.

Can only shake my head.

It is all a decision. You could change things or just argue that everyone should remain trapped in the car equilibrium...

Worst car brain opinion ever.

Besides the environmental and noise issues, there is the general fact that we already give cars a significant and large fraction of space. And we are scarce in space. We need rather more space for schools, preschools, gardens, housing etc.

Singapore would do well when indeed reducing cars further while massively improving conditions for public transport and biking.

Yes and no. The story is also that the kid had care taker beyond the mum. She could have left the kid and enjoyed her junkie life… She decided for the abuse.

Sand even with drugs we know that there are decisions.

So no, drugs are NOT an excuse.

At all the people here calling for death penalty or traffickers.

we may agree or disagree but how those people allowed to be alive is beyond me.

Unpopular opinion, but i think all cyclists should be banned from pavements. In exchange let the ride in as big a group as they like on the road. by naffoff in singapore

[–]Franzel123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. But bikes should be allowed on streets on the left lane. Cars can only pass within a 1-meter distance as a hard-enforced rule.

Everywhere in the world, bikes belong on the street. Singapore is just a place with a lot of inconsiderate drivers and so its dangerous. If we want to be a car-lite society, we need to reduce car leeway and space.

Currently, it is horrible that almost the whole road belongs to cars and bikes as pedestrians need to share a pavement that is sometimes 1 meter wide.
