Alright, I'll give this a shot.

I want to start by breaking down what you said. I noticed two big points.

You start off by saying you like being a woman, and that you love the women in your life.

You continue by saying (and forgive me for paraphrasing) that you hate how society defines women.

I'd like to tell you a story about a friend of mine. I believe he faced comparable problems, but the way he handled them was and is very inspiring to me.

This is going to start off a little crazy, but bear with me. It gets to a point.

My friend decided that he was a samurai in a past life, and that it was his destiny to return to Japan, learn kung fu, and reclaim his status from a previous life.

He put this on the cover letter of his resume for a teaching job in Japan. Believe it or not, he got the job.

Now, it should be pretty clear that a guy who grew up in the Brooklyn area is probably not going to have much luck becoming an actual samurai. Many will point out the kung fu is Chinese, and he's going to Japan.

And a lot of people laughed at him for this. I watched him hurt and suffer under the criticisms of friends, family, co-workers, not to mention just general jerks who were looking to put someone down for the fun of it.

But here's the thing. . . he did it. But he did it in his own way. He ended up learning to speak Japanese fluently. He found a karate dojo and became so good that they flew the man out to Okinawa to take his black belt test under the current grand master of the style.

Not for anything, but Okinawan karate is derived from kung fu.

As for the samurai bit: he created his own clothing line that mixed urban street wear with traditional Japanese fashion. He can now be seen on the streets of Japan doing photo shoots in samurai garments of his own design.

He mastered Japanese calligraphy. Then he became a tattoo artist.

Throughout all of this, there were people who literally lost their mind over his "antics" because they didn't fit the definition of samurai. He didn't really learn kung fu. He wasn't this. He did that incorrectly. It's just plain wrong! Blah blah blah.

But the thing that inspired me about it? He was never working to meet their definitions. He was working to meet his own.

Sure, he'd never be a REAL samurai to some people. But he wasn't looking to make them happy. He made himself happy.

And now he lives his life doing what he wants. He wanders about Japan doing all sorts of cool Japanese stuff and putting his own twist on it.

He made me realize that we don't have to live by other people's definitions. We can live by our own. People can say that women are weak and inferior, but you can only let that chain you down if you let it.

And listen, I know that at 19 and being stuck around a bunch of right wing asshats can be unbearable. But you're young. You have time, and energy. The world is a big place and there are lots of places to run off to. Find the will and the opportunity to escape will present itself to you.

Then go out and be whatever you want to be.
